1 T hen all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2 I n times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and Jehovah thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over my people Israel.

Odinioară, chiar cînd era Saul împărat, tu duceai şi aduceai pe Israel înapoi. Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi -a zis:, Tu vei paşte pe poporul Meu Israel şi tu vei fi căpetenia poporului Meu Israel.``

3 S o all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of Jehovah by Samuel.

Astfel toţi bătrînii lui Israel au venit la împărat la Hebron, şi David a făcut legămînt cu ei la Hebron înaintea Domnului. Au uns pe David împărat peste Israel, după cuvîntul Domnului, spus prin Samuel.

4 A nd David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

David a mers cu tot Israelul asupra Ierusalimului, adică Iebus. Acolo erau Iebusiţii, locuitorii ţării.

5 A nd the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

Locuitorii Iebusului au zis lui David:,, Nu vei intra aici.`` Dar David a luat cetăţuia Sionului: aceasta este cetatea lui David.

6 A nd David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

David zisese:,, Oricine va bate cel dintîi pe Iebusiţi va fi căpetenie şi domn.`` Ioab, fiul Ţeruiei, s'a suit cel dintîi, şi a ajuns căpetenie.

7 A nd David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

David s'a aşezat în cetăţuie; deaceea au numit -o cetatea lui David.

8 A nd he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

A făcut zid împrejurul cetăţii, dela Milo de jur împrejur; şi Ioab a dres cealaltă parte a cetăţii.

9 A nd David waxed greater and greater; for Jehovah of hosts was with him.

David ajungea din ce în ce mai mare, şi Domnul oştirilor era cu el.

10 N ow these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Jehovah concerning Israel.

11 A nd this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time.

Iată, după numărul lor, vitejii cari erau în slujba lui David. Iaşobeam, fiul lui Hacmoni, unul din căpitanii de seamă. El şi -a învîrtit suliţa peste trei sute de oameni, pe cari i -a omorît dintr'o singură dată.

12 A nd after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

După el, Eleazar, fiul lui Dodo, Ahohitul, unul din cei trei războinici.

13 H e was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

El era cu David la Pas-Damim, unde se strînseseră Filistenii pentru luptă. Acolo era o bucată de pămînt plină cu orz: şi poporul fugea dinaintea Filistenilor.

14 A nd they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah saved them by a great victory.

S'au aşezat în mijlocul ogorului, l-au ocrotit, şi au bătut pe Filisteni. Şi Domnul a dat o mare izbăvire.

15 A nd three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

Trei din cele treizeci de căpetenii s'au pogorît la David pe stîncă în peştera Adulam, cînd tabăra Filistenilor era în valea Refaimiţilor.

16 A nd David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

David era atunci în cetăţuie, şi o ceată a Filistenilor era la Betleem.

17 A nd David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!

David a avut o dorinţă, şi a zis:,, Cine-mi va aduce apă de băut din fîntîna de la poarta Betleemului?``

18 A nd the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah,

Atunci cei trei bărbaţi au trecut prin tabăra Filistenilor, şi au scos apă din fîntîna dela poarta Betleemului. Au adus -o şi au dat -o lui David; dar David n'a vrut s'o bea, ci a vărsat -o înaintea Domnului.

19 a nd said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

El a zis:,, Să mă ferească Dumnezeul meu să fac una ca aceasta! Să beau eu sîngele acestor oameni, cari s'au dus cu primejdia vieţii lor? Căci cu primejdia vieţii lor au adus -o.`` Şi n'a voit s'o bea. Iată ce au făcut aceşti trei viteji.

20 A nd Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.

Abişai, fratele lui Ioab, era căpetenia celor trei. El şi -a învîrtit suliţa peste trei sute de oameni, şi i -a omorît; şi i -a mers faima între cei trei.

21 O f the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

El era cel mai cu vază din cei trei din rîndul al doilea, şi a fost căpetenia lor; dar n'a ajuns pe cei trei dintîi.

22 B enaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.

23 A nd he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

24 T hese things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.

25 B ehold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.
