1 T he word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these word in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

Este es el mensaje que el profeta Jeremías dio a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, cuando éste escribió estas palabras en un libro al dictado de Jeremías, en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, diciéndole:

2 T hus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch:

“Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, acerca de ti, oh Baruc:

3 T hou didst say, Woe is me now! for Jehovah hath added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.

‘Tú dijiste: “¡Ay, infeliz de mí!, porque el Señor ha añadido tristeza a mi dolor. Cansado estoy de gemir y no he hallado reposo.”’

4 T hus shalt thou say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.

Así le dirás: ‘Así dice el Señor: “Lo que he edificado, lo derribo, y lo que he plantado, lo arranco, es decir, toda esta tierra.”

5 A nd seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not; for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

‘Pero tú, ¿buscas para ti grandes cosas ? No las busques; porque voy a traer calamidad sobre toda carne,’ declara el Señor, ‘pero a ti te daré tu vida por botín en todos los lugares adonde vayas.’”
