1 A nd the men of Kiriath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Jehovah, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Jehovah.

Los hombres vinieron de Quiriat Jearim, tomaron el arca del Señor y la llevaron a la casa de Abinadab en la colina, y consagraron a Eleazar su hijo para que guardara el arca del Señor.

2 A nd it came to pass, from the day that the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Jehovah.

Pero pasó mucho tiempo, veinte años, desde el día en que el arca quedó en Quiriat Jearim; y toda la casa de Israel añoraba al Señor.

3 A nd Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto Jehovah with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts unto Jehovah, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

Entonces Samuel habló a toda la casa de Israel: “Si es que ustedes se vuelven al Señor con todo su corazón, entonces quiten de entre ustedes los dioses extranjeros y a Astarot, y dirijan su corazón al Señor, y sírvanle sólo a El; y El los librará de la mano de los Filisteos.”

4 T hen the children of Israel did put away the Baalim and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovah only.

Los Israelitas quitaron a los Baales y a Astarot, y sirvieron sólo al Señor.

5 A nd Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you unto Jehovah.

Y Samuel dijo: “Reúnan en Mizpa a todo Israel, y yo oraré al Señor por ustedes.”

6 A nd they gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Jehovah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

Se reunieron los Israelitas en Mizpa, y sacaron agua y la derramaron delante del Señor, ayunaron aquel día y dijeron allí: “Hemos pecado contra el Señor.” Y Samuel juzgó a los Israelitas en Mizpa.

7 A nd when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

Cuando los Filisteos oyeron que los Israelitas se habían reunido en Mizpa, los príncipes de los Filisteos subieron contra Israel. Cuando oyeron esto los Israelitas, tuvieron temor de los Filisteos.

8 A nd the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto Jehovah our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

Entonces los Israelitas dijeron a Samuel: “No dejes de clamar al Señor nuestro Dios por nosotros, para que El nos libre de la mano de los Filisteos.”

9 A nd Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt-offering unto Jehovah: and Samuel cried unto Jehovah for Israel; and Jehovah answered him.

Tomó Samuel un cordero de leche y lo ofreció como completo holocausto al Señor; y clamó Samuel al Señor por Israel y el Señor le respondió.

10 A nd as Samuel was offering up the burnt-offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Jehovah thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten down before Israel.

Mientras Samuel estaba ofreciendo el holocausto, los Filisteos se acercaron para pelear con Israel. Pero el Señor tronó con gran estruendo aquel día contra los Filisteos y los confundió, y fueron derrotados delante de Israel.

11 A nd the men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.

Saliendo de Mizpa los hombres de Israel, persiguieron a los Filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta más allá de Bet Car. Derrota de los Filisteos

12 T hen Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath Jehovah helped us.

Entonces Samuel tomó una piedra y la colocó entre Mizpa y Sen, y la llamó Ebenezer (Piedra de Ayuda) y dijo: “Hasta aquí nos ha ayudado el Señor.”

13 S o the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel: and the hand of Jehovah was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

Los Filisteos fueron sometidos y no volvieron más dentro de los límites de Israel. Y la mano del Señor estuvo contra los Filisteos todos los días de Samuel.

14 A nd the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the border thereof did Israel deliver out of the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

Las ciudades que los Filisteos habían tomado de Israel fueron restituidas a Israel, desde Ecrón hasta Gat, e Israel libró su territorio de la mano de los Filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y los Amorreos.

15 A nd Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

Samuel juzgó a Israel todos los días de su vida.

16 A nd he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

Cada año acostumbraba hacer un recorrido por Betel, Gilgal y Mizpa, y juzgaba a Israel en todos estos lugares.

17 A nd his return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar unto Jehovah.

Después volvía a Ramá, pues allí estaba su casa, y allí juzgaba a Israel; y edificó allí un altar al Señor.
