1 A nd it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.

Cuando el rey Ezequías, oyó esto rasgó sus vestidos, se cubrió de cilicio y entró en la casa del Señor.

2 A nd he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

Entonces envío a Eliaquim, mayordomo de la casa real, con el escriba Sebna y los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de cilicio, al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz.

3 A nd they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of contumely; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

Y ellos le dijeron: “Así dice Ezequías: ‘Este día es día de angustia, de reprensión y de desprecio, pues hijos están para nacer, pero no hay fuerzas para dar a luz.

4 I t may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.

Tal vez el Señor tu Dios oirá las palabras del Rabsaces, a quien su señor, el rey de Asiria, ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y lo reprenderá por las palabras que el Señor tu Dios ha oído. Eleva, pues, una oración por el remanente que aún queda.’”

5 S o the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

Cuando llegaron los siervos del rey Ezequías ante Isaías,

6 A nd Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith Jehovah, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

éste les dijo: “Así dirán a su señor: ‘Así dice el Señor: “No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las que los siervos del rey de Asiria Me han blasfemado.

7 B ehold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return unto his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

Voy a poner en él un espíritu, oirá un rumor y se volverá a su tierra; y en su tierra lo haré caer a espada.”’”

8 S o Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

Entonces el Rabsaces volvió y halló al rey de Asiria peleando contra Libna, pues había oído que el rey había partido de Laquis.

9 A nd he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come out to fight against thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

Y les oyó decir acerca de Tirhaca, rey de Cus (Etiopía): “Ha salido a pelear contra ti,” y cuando lo oyó, Senaquerib envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:

10 T hus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

“Así dirán a Ezequías, rey de Judá: ‘No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: “Jerusalén no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.”

11 B ehold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?

Tú has oído lo que los reyes de Asiria han hecho a todas las naciones, destruyéndolas por completo, ¿y serás tú librado?

12 H ave the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar?

¿Acaso los libraron los dioses de las naciones que mis padres destruyeron, es decir, Gozán, Harán, Resef y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

13 W here is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Iva?’”

14 A nd Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up unto the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah.

Entonces Ezequías tomó la carta de mano de los mensajeros y la leyó. Después subió a la casa del Señor y la extendió delante del Señor.

15 A nd Hezekiah prayed unto Jehovah, saying,

Y Ezequías oró al Señor, y dijo:

16 O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, that sittest above the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.

“Oh Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que estás sobre los querubines, sólo Tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.

17 I ncline thine ear, O Jehovah, and hear; open thine eyes, O Jehovah, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to defy the living God.

Inclina, oh Señor, Tu oído y escucha; abre, oh Señor, Tus ojos y mira; escucha todas las palabras que Senaquerib ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo.

18 O f a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries, and their land,

En verdad, oh Señor, los reyes de Asiria han asolado todas las naciones y sus tierras,

19 a nd have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

y han echado sus dioses al fuego, porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombre, de madera y piedra; por eso los han destruido.

20 N ow therefore, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, even thou only.

Y ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, líbranos de su mano para que todos los reinos de la tierra sepan que sólo Tú, oh Señor, eres Dios.”

21 T hen Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,

Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió a decir a Ezequías: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Por cuanto Me has rogado acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria,

22 t his is the word which Jehovah hath spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

esta es la palabra que el Señor ha hablado contra él: “Te ha despreciado y se ha burlado de ti La virgen hija de Sion; Ha movido la cabeza a tus espaldas La hija de Jerusalén.

23 W hom hast thou defied and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

¿A quién has injuriado y blasfemado ? ¿Y contra quién has alzado la voz Y levantado con orgullo tus ojos ? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!

24 B y thy servants hast thou defied the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir-trees thereof; and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field;

Por mano de tus siervos has injuriado al Señor, Y has dicho: ‘Con mis numerosos carros Yo subí a las cumbres de los montes, A las partes más lejanas del Líbano, Y corté sus altos cedros y sus mejores cipreses. Iré a su más alta cima, a su más frondoso bosque.

25 I have digged and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt.

Yo cavé pozos y bebí aguas, Y sequé con la planta de mis pies Todos los ríos de Egipto.’

26 H ast thou not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? now have I brought it to pass, that it should be thine to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

¿No has oído ? Hace mucho tiempo que lo hice, Desde la antigüedad lo había planeado. Ahora he hecho que suceda, Para que conviertas las ciudades fortificadas En montones de ruinas.

27 T herefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as a field of grain before it is grown up.

Sus habitantes, faltos de fuerzas, Fueron desalentados y humillados. Vinieron a ser como la vegetación del campo Y como la hierba verde, Como la hierba en los techos que se quema Antes de que haya crecido.

28 B ut I know thy sitting down, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy raging against me.

Pero conozco tu sentarte, Tu salir y tu entrar, Y tu furor contra Mí.

29 B ecause of thy raging against me, and because thine arrogancy is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

A causa de tu furor contra Mí, Y porque tu arrogancia ha subido hasta Mis oídos, Pondré, pues, Mi garfio en tu nariz Y Mi freno en tu boca, Y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.

30 A nd this shall be the sign unto thee: ye shall eat this year that which groweth of itself, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.

Entonces ésta será la señal para ti, Ezequías: Este año ustedes comerán lo que crezca espontáneamente; el segundo año lo que nazca de por sí, y en el tercer año siembren, sieguen, planten viñas y coman su fruto.

31 A nd the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

El remanente de la casa de Judá que se salve, echará de nuevo raíces por debajo y dará fruto por arriba.

32 F or out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion they that shall escape. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y del Monte Sion sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará esto.”’”

33 T herefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come unto this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

“Por tanto, así dice el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: ‘El no entrará en esta ciudad ni lanzará allí flecha alguna; tampoco vendrá delante de ella con escudo ni levantará terraplén contra ella.

34 B y the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come unto this city, saith Jehovah.

‘Por el camino que vino, por él se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad,’ declara el Señor.

35 F or I will defend this city to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

‘Porque defenderé esta ciudad para salvarla por amor a Mí mismo y por amor a Mi siervo David.’” Muerte de Senaquerib

36 A nd the angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

Y salió el ángel del Señor e hirió a 185, 000 en el campamento de los Asirios. Cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, vieron que todos eran cadáveres.

37 S o Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, partió y regresó a su tierra, y habitó en Nínive.

38 A nd it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

Y mientras él adoraba en la casa de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarezaer lo mataron a espada y huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. Y su hijo Esar Hadón reinó en su lugar.
