1 T he word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 H ear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

“Oigan las palabras de este pacto, y díganlas a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén.

3 a nd say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man that heareth not the words of this covenant,

Les dirán: ‘Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Maldito el hombre que no obedezca las palabras de este pacto

4 w hich I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God;

que mandé a sus padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, del horno de hierro, y les dije: ‘Escuchen Mi voz (Obedézcanme), y hagan conforme a todo lo que Yo les mando; y ustedes serán Mi pueblo, y Yo seré su Dios,’

5 t hat I may establish the oath which I sware unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, O Jehovah.

para confirmar el juramento que juré a sus padres, de darles una tierra que mana leche y miel, como lo es hoy.”’” Entonces respondí: “Amén, Señor.”

6 A nd Jehovah said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

Y el Señor me dijo: “Proclama todas estas palabras en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, diciendo: ‘Oigan las palabras de este pacto y cúmplanlas.

7 F or I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

Porque bien advertí a sus padres el día que los hice subir de la tierra de Egipto, y hasta hoy los he amonestado con insistencia, diciéndoles: “Escuchen Mi voz (Obedézcanme).”

8 Y et they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

Pero no escucharon ni inclinaron su oído, sino que cada cual anduvo en la terquedad de su malvado corazón. Por tanto, hice caer sobre ellos todas las palabras de este pacto, que Yo les mandé cumplir y no lo cumplieron.’”

9 A nd Jehovah said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Entonces el Señor me dijo: “Se ha descubierto una conspiración entre los hombres de Judá y entre los habitantes de Jerusalén.

10 T hey are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

Se han vuelto a las iniquidades de sus antepasados, los cuales rehusaron escuchar Mis palabras, y se han ido tras otros dioses para servirlos. La casa de Israel y la casa de Judá han violado Mi pacto, el cual hice con sus padres.”

11 T herefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry unto me, but I will not hearken unto them.

Por tanto, así dice el Señor: “Yo traigo sobre ellos una calamidad de la que no podrán escapar; aunque clamen a Mí, no los escucharé.

12 T hen shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry unto the gods unto which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

Entonces irán las ciudades de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, y clamarán a los dioses a quienes queman incienso, pero ellos ciertamente no podrán salvarlos en la hora de su aflicción.

13 F or according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

Porque según el número de tus ciudades son tus dioses, oh Judá, y según el número de las calles de Jerusalén, son los altares que has levantado a lo vergonzoso, altares para quemar incienso a Baal.

14 T herefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me because of their trouble.

“Pero tú no ruegues por este pueblo, ni eleves clamor ni oración por ellos; porque no escucharé cuando clamen a Mí a causa de su aflicción.

15 W hat hath my beloved to do in my house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

“¿Qué derecho tiene Mi amada en Mi casa Cuando ha hecho tantas cosas malas ? ¿Puede la carne consagrada quitar de ti tu calamidad Para que puedas regocijarte?”

16 J ehovah called thy name, A green olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

“Olivo frondoso, hermoso en fruto y forma,” Te puso por nombre el Señor. Con ruido de un gran estrépito Ha prendido fuego en él, Y sus ramas son inservibles.

17 F or Jehovah of hosts, who planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have wrought for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense unto Baal.

El Señor de los ejércitos, que te plantó, ha decretado una calamidad contra ti a causa de la maldad que la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá han hecho, provocándome al ofrecer sacrificios a Baal. Intrigas contra Jeremías

18 A nd Jehovah gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then thou showedst me their doings.

El Señor me lo hizo saber y lo comprendí. Entonces me hiciste ver sus obras.

19 B ut I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

Pero yo era como un cordero manso llevado al matadero, y no sabía que tramaban intrigas contra mí, diciendo: “Destruyamos el árbol con su fruto, y cortémoslo de la tierra de los vivientes, para que su nombre no se recuerde más.”

20 B ut, O Jehovah of hosts, who judgest righteously, who triest the heart and the mind, I shall see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

Pero, oh Señor de los ejércitos, que juzgas rectamente, Que examinas los sentimientos y el corazón, Vea yo Tu venganza contra ellos, Porque a Ti he expuesto mi causa.

21 T herefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, that thou die not by our hand;

Por tanto, así dice el Señor en cuanto a los hombres de Anatot que buscan tu vida, y dicen: “No profetices en el nombre del Señor, para que no mueras a manos nuestras.”

22 t herefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

Así, pues, dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “Voy a castigarlos. Los jóvenes morirán a espada, sus hijos e hijas morirán de hambre,

23 a nd there shall be no remnant unto them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

y no quedará de ellos remanente, porque traeré una calamidad sobre los hombres de Anatot, el año de su castigo.”
