1 J ames, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.

Santiago (Jacobo), siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo: A las doce tribus que están en la dispersión: Saludos. Fe y Sabiduría

2 C ount it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;

Tengan por sumo gozo, hermanos míos, cuando se hallen en diversas pruebas (tentaciones),

3 K nowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

sabiendo que la prueba de su fe produce paciencia (perseverancia),

4 A nd let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

y que la paciencia tenga su perfecto resultado, para que sean perfectos y completos, sin que nada les falte.

5 B ut if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Y si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, que se la pida a Dios, quien da a todos abundantemente y sin reproche, y le será dada.

6 B ut let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.

Pero que pida con fe, sin dudar. Porque el que duda es semejante a la ola del mar, impulsada por el viento y echada de una parte a otra.

7 F or let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;

No piense, pues, ese hombre, que recibirá cosa alguna del Señor,

8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.

siendo hombre de doble ánimo (que duda), inestable en todos sus caminos. Lo Transitorio de las Riquezas

9 B ut let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:

Pero que el hermano de condición humilde se gloríe en su alta posición,

10 a nd the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

y el rico en su humillación, pues él pasará como la flor de la hierba.

11 F or the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass: and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.

Porque el sol sale con calor abrasador y seca la hierba, y su flor se cae y la hermosura de su apariencia perece. Así también se marchitará el rico en medio de sus empresas. La Tentación Explicada

12 B lessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

Bienaventurado el hombre que persevera bajo la prueba, porque una vez que ha sido aprobado (ha pasado la prueba), recibirá la corona de la vida que el Señor ha prometido a los que Lo aman.

13 L et no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:

Que nadie diga cuando es tentado: “Soy tentado por Dios.” Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal y El mismo no tienta a nadie.

14 b ut each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

Sino que cada uno es tentado cuando es llevado y seducido por su propia pasión.

15 T hen the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

Después, cuando la pasión ha concebido, da a luz el pecado; y cuando el pecado es consumado, engendra la muerte.

16 B e not deceived, my beloved brethren.

Amados hermanos míos, no se engañen.

17 E very good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.

Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto viene de lo alto, desciende del Padre de las luces, con el cual no hay cambio ni sombra de variación.

18 O f his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

En el ejercicio de Su voluntad, El nos hizo nacer por la palabra de verdad, para que fuéramos las primicias de sus criaturas. Hacedores de la Palabra

19 Y e know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Esto lo saben, mis amados hermanos. Pero que cada uno sea pronto para oír, tardo para hablar, tardo para la ira;

20 f or the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

pues la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.

21 W herefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Por lo cual, desechando toda inmundicia y todo resto de malicia, reciban ustedes con humildad (mansedumbre) la palabra implantada, que es poderosa para salvar sus almas.

22 B ut be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.

Sean hacedores de la palabra y no solamente oidores que se engañan a sí mismos.

23 F or if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:

Porque si alguien es oidor de la palabra, y no hacedor, es semejante a un hombre que mira su rostro natural en un espejo;

24 f or he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

pues después de mirarse a sí mismo e irse, inmediatamente se olvida de qué clase de persona es.

25 B ut he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.

Pero el que mira atentamente a la ley perfecta, la ley de la libertad, y permanece en ella, no habiéndose vuelto un oidor olvidadizo sino un hacedor eficaz, éste será bienaventurado en lo que hace.

26 I f any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain.

Si alguien se cree religioso, pero no refrena su lengua, sino que engaña a su propio corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

27 P ure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

La religión pura y sin mancha delante de nuestro Dios y Padre es ésta: visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y guardarse sin mancha del mundo.
