1 A nd Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojourners of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

Elías el Tisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad, dijo a Acab: “Vive el Señor, Dios de Israel, delante de quien estoy, que ciertamente no habrá rocío ni lluvia en estos años, sino por la palabra de mi boca.”

2 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,

Y vino a Elías la palabra del Señor, diciendo:

3 G et thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

“Sal de aquí y dirígete hacia el oriente, y escóndete junto al arroyo Querit, que está al oriente del Jordán.

4 A nd it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

Y beberás del arroyo, y he ordenado a los cuervos que te sustenten allí.”

5 S o he went and did according unto the word of Jehovah; for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

El fue e hizo conforme a la palabra del Señor, pues fue y habitó junto al arroyo Querit, que está al oriente del Jordán.

6 A nd the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

Y los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne al atardecer, y bebía del arroyo.

7 A nd it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

Sucedió que después de algún tiempo el arroyo se secó, porque no había caído lluvia en la tierra. Elías y la Viuda de Sarepta

8 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying,

Vino después a él la palabra del Señor, diciendo:

9 A rise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.

“Levántate, ve a Sarepta, que pertenece a Sidón, y quédate allí; porque yo he mandado a una viuda de allí que te sustente.”

10 S o he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

El se levantó y fue a Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la entrada de la ciudad, allí estaba una viuda recogiendo leña, entonces la llamó y le dijo: “Te ruego que me consigas un poco de agua en un vaso para que yo beba.”

11 A nd as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.

Cuando ella iba a conseguir la, la llamó y le dijo: “Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tu mano.”

12 A nd she said, As Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

Pero ella respondió: “Vive el Señor tu Dios, que no tengo pan, sólo tengo un puñado de harina en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en la vasija y estoy recogiendo unos trozos de leña para entrar y preparar lo para mí y para mi hijo, para que comamos y muramos.”

13 A nd Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it forth unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son.

Entonces Elías le dijo: “No temas; ve, haz como has dicho, pero primero hazme una pequeña torta de eso y tráeme la; después harás para ti y para tu hijo.

14 F or thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sendeth rain upon the earth.

Porque así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘No se acabará la harina en la tinaja ni se agotará el aceite en la vasija, hasta el día en que el Señor mande lluvia sobre la superficie de la tierra.’”

15 A nd she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

Entonces ella fue e hizo conforme a la palabra de Elías, y ella, él y la casa de ella comieron por muchos días.

16 T he jar of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake by Elijah.

La harina de la tinaja no se acabó ni se agotó el aceite de la vasija, conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado por medio de Elías.

17 A nd it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

Pero sucedió que después de estas cosas, se enfermó el hijo de la mujer dueña de la casa; y su enfermedad fue tan grave que no quedó aliento en él.

18 A nd she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? thou art come unto me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!

Y ella le dijo a Elías: “¿Qué tengo que ver contigo, oh hombre de Dios ? ¡Has venido para traer a memoria mis iniquidades y hacer morir a mi hijo!”

19 A nd he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

“Dame a tu hijo,” le respondió Elías. Y él lo tomó de su regazo y lo llevó a la cámara alta donde él vivía, y lo acostó en su propia cama.

20 A nd he cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

Y clamó al Señor: “Oh Señor, Dios mío, ¿has traído también mal a la viuda con quien estoy hospedado haciendo morir a su hijo?”

21 A nd he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto Jehovah, and said, O Jehovah my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

Entonces se tendió tres veces sobre el niño, y clamó al Señor: “Oh Señor, Dios mío, Te ruego que el alma de este niño vuelva a él.”

22 A nd Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

El Señor escuchó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a él y revivió.

23 A nd Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

Y Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó de la cámara alta a la casa y se lo dio a su madre; y Elías dijo: “Mira, tu hijo vive.”

24 A nd the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of Jehovah in thy mouth is truth.

Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: “Ahora conozco que tú eres hombre de Dios, y que la palabra del Señor en tu boca es verdad.”
