1 T hus said Jehovah, Go, and buy a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

Así dijo el Señor: “Ve y compra una vasija de barro de un alfarero, y toma contigo a algunos de los ancianos del pueblo y de los ancianos de los sacerdotes.

2 a nd go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee;

Entonces sal al Valle de Ben (Hijo de) Hinom, que está a la entrada de la puerta de los tiestos, y proclama allí las palabras que Yo te diré.

3 a nd say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

“Dirás: ‘Oigan la palabra del Señor, reyes de Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén. Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Voy a traer tal calamidad sobre este lugar, que a todo el que oiga de ella le zumbarán los oídos.

4 B ecause they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

“Porque ellos Me han abandonado, han hecho extraño este lugar y han ofrecido sacrificios (quemado incienso) en él a otros dioses, que ni ellos, ni sus padres, ni los reyes de Judá habían conocido, y porque han llenado este lugar de sangre de inocentes

5 a nd have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

y han edificado los lugares altos de Baal para quemar a sus hijos en el fuego como holocaustos a Baal, cosa que nunca mandé, ni de la cual hablé, ni Me pasó por la mente.

6 t herefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.

“Por tanto, vienen días,” declara el Señor “cuando este lugar no se llamará más Tofet ni Valle de Ben Hinom, sino Valle de la Matanza.

7 A nd I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.

Y haré nulo el consejo de Judá y de Jerusalén en este lugar, y los haré caer a espada delante de sus enemigos y a mano de los que buscan su vida, y entregaré sus cadáveres por alimento a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra.

8 A nd I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

También convertiré esta ciudad en desolación y burla; todo aquél que pase por ella se quedará atónito y silbará a causa de toda su destrucción.

9 A nd I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.

Les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas, y cada uno comerá la carne de su prójimo durante el sitio y en la aflicción con que los afligirán sus enemigos y los que buscan su vida.”’

10 T hen shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

“Entonces romperás la vasija a la vista de los hombres que te acompañen,

11 a nd shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.

y les dirás: ‘Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: “De igual manera romperé Yo a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien rompe una vasija de alfarero, que no se puede reparar más; y los enterrarán en Tofet por no haber otro lugar donde enterrar los.

12 T hus will I do unto this place, saith Jehovah, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth:

“Así haré con este lugar y con sus habitantes,” declara el Señor, “poniendo esta ciudad como Tofet.

13 a nd the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.

Y las casas de Jerusalén y las casas de los reyes de Judá serán como el lugar de Tofet, inmundas, a causa de todas las casas en cuyos terrados ofrecieron sacrificios (quemaron incienso) a todo el ejército del cielo y derramaron libaciones a otros dioses.”’”

14 T hen came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house, and said to all the people:

Entonces Jeremías volvió de Tofet, adonde lo había enviado el Señor a profetizar, y poniéndose en pie en el atrio de la casa del Señor, dijo a todo el pueblo:

15 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

“Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: ‘Voy a traer sobre esta ciudad y sobre todas sus aldeas la calamidad que he declarado contra ella, porque se han hecho tercos para no hacer caso a Mis palabras.’”
