1 A nd it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.

Cuando Saúl regresó de perseguir a los Filisteos, le dieron aviso: “David está en el desierto de En Gadi.”

2 T hen Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

Entonces Saúl tomó de todo Israel 3, 000 hombres escogidos, y fue en busca de David y de sus hombres por los peñascos de las cabras monteses.

3 A nd he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

Llegó a unos rediles de ovejas en el camino, donde había una cueva, y Saúl entró en ella para hacer sus necesidades. Y David y sus hombres estaban sentados en los rincones de la cueva.

4 A nd the men of David said unto him, Behold, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thy hand, and thou shalt do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

Y los hombres de David le dijeron: “Mira, este es el día del que el Señor te habló: ‘Voy a entregar a tu enemigo en tu mano, y harás con él como bien te parezca.’” Entonces David se levantó y cortó a escondidas la orilla del manto de Saúl.

5 A nd it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

Aconteció después de esto que la conciencia de David le remordía, porque había cortado la orilla del manto de Saúl.

6 A nd he said unto his men, Jehovah forbid that I should do this thing unto my lord, Jehovah's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing he is Jehovah's anointed.

Y dijo a sus hombres: “El Señor me guarde de hacer tal cosa contra mi rey, el ungido del Señor, de extender contra él mi mano, porque es el ungido del Señor.”

7 S o David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

David contuvo a sus hombres con estas palabras y no les permitió que se levantaran contra Saúl. Y Saúl se levantó, salió de la cueva, y siguió su camino.

8 D avid also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.

Después de esto David se levantó, salió de la cueva y dio voces tras Saúl, diciendo: “¡Mi señor el rey!” Y cuando Saúl miró hacia atrás, David inclinó su rostro a tierra y se postró.

9 A nd David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

Y dijo David a Saúl: “¿Por qué escucha usted las palabras de los hombres, que dicen: ‘Mire que David procura su mal’?

10 B ehold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered thee to-day into my hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee; but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Jehovah's anointed.

Hoy han visto sus ojos que el Señor lo ha puesto en mis manos en la cueva en este día; y algunos me dijeron que lo matara, pero mis ojos tuvieron piedad de usted, y dije: ‘No extenderé mi mano contra mi rey, porque es el ungido del Señor.’

11 M oreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my life to take it.

Mire, padre mío, mire la orilla de su manto en mi mano. Puesto que corté la orilla de su manto y no lo maté, reconozca y vea que no hay maldad ni rebelión en mis manos y que no he pecado contra usted, a pesar de que usted acecha mi vida para quitármela.

12 J ehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah avenge me of thee; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

Juzgue el Señor entre usted y yo y que el Señor me vengue de usted, pero mi mano no será contra usted.

13 A s saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

Como dice el proverbio de los antiguos: ‘De los malos procede la maldad,’ pero mi mano no será contra usted.

14 A fter whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

¿Tras quién ha salido el rey de Israel? ¿A quién persigue? ¿A un perro muerto ? ¿A una pulga ?

15 J ehovah therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thy hand.

Sea el Señor juez y decida entre usted y yo; que El vea y defienda mi causa y me libre de su mano.”

16 A nd it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

Cuando David acabó de decir a Saúl estas palabras, Saúl dijo: “¿Es ésta tu voz, David, hijo mío ?” Entonces Saúl alzó su voz y lloró.

17 A nd he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rendered unto me good, whereas I have rendered unto thee evil.

Y dijo a David: “Eres más justo que yo, porque tú me has tratado bien mientras que yo te he tratado con maldad.

18 A nd thou hast declared this day how that thou hast dealt well with me, forasmuch as when Jehovah had delivered me up into thy hand, thou killedst me not.

Tú has demostrado hoy que me has hecho bien, ya que el Señor me entregó en tu mano y sin embargo no me diste muerte.

19 F or if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore Jehovah reward thee good for that which thou hast done unto me this day.

Porque si un hombre halla a su enemigo, ¿lo dejará ir sano y salvo ? Que el Señor, por tanto, te recompense con bien por lo que has hecho por mí hoy.

20 A nd now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thy hand.

Mira, ahora sé que ciertamente serás rey, y que el reino de Israel será establecido en tu mano.

21 S wear now therefore unto me by Jehovah, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

Ahora pues, júrame por el Señor que no cortarás mi descendencia después de mí, y que no borrarás mi nombre de la casa de mi padre.”

22 A nd David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the stronghold.

Y David se lo juró a Saúl. Y Saúl se fue a su casa, pero David y sus hombres subieron al refugio.
