1 T hen Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that Jehovah hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance?

Entonces Samuel tomó el frasco de aceite, la derramó sobre la cabeza de Saúl, lo besó y le dijo: “¿No te ha ungido el Señor por príncipe sobre Su heredad ?

2 W hen thou art departed from me to-day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found; and, lo, thy father hath left off caring for the asses, and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

Cuando te apartes hoy de mí, hallarás a dos hombres cerca del sepulcro de Raquel, en el territorio de Benjamín, en Selsa, y te dirán: ‘Las asnas que fuiste a buscar han sido halladas. Ahora tu padre ha dejado de preocuparse por las asnas y está angustiado por ustedes y dice: “¿Qué haré en cuanto a mi hijo?”’

3 T hen shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the oak of Tabor; and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

De allí seguirás más adelante, llegarás hasta la encina de Tabor, y allí te encontrarás con tres hombres que suben a Dios en Betel, uno llevando tres cabritos, otro llevando tres tortas de pan y otro llevando un odre de vino;

4 a nd they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread, which thou shalt receive of their hand.

ellos te saludarán y te darán dos tortas de pan, las cuales recibirás de sus manos.

5 A fter that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying:

Después llegarás a la colina de Dios donde está la guarnición de los Filisteos; y sucederá que cuando llegues a la ciudad, allá encontrarás a un grupo de profetas que descienden del lugar alto con arpa, pandero, flauta y lira delante de ellos, y estarán profetizando.

6 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

Entonces el Espíritu del Señor vendrá sobre ti con gran poder, profetizarás con ellos y serás cambiado en otro hombre.

7 A nd let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion shall serve thee; for God is with thee.

Cuando estas señales te hayan sucedido, haz lo que la situación requiera, porque Dios está contigo.

8 A nd thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt-offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.

Descenderás delante de mí a Gilgal, y también yo descenderé a donde estás para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz. Esperarás siete días hasta que venga a verte y te muestre lo que debes hacer.”

9 A nd it was so, that, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

Cuando Saúl volvió la espalda para dejar a Samuel, Dios le cambió el corazón, y todas aquellas señales le acontecieron aquel mismo día.

10 A nd when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them.

Cuando Saúl y su criado llegaron allá a la colina, un grupo de profetas salió a su encuentro; y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con gran poder, y profetizó entre ellos.

11 A nd it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

Cuando todos los que lo conocían de antes vieron que ahora profetizaba con los profetas, los del pueblo se decían unos a otros: “¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas ?”

12 A nd one of the same place answered and said, And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Un hombre de allí respondió: “¿Y quién es el padre de ellos?” Por lo cual esto se hizo proverbio: “¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas ?”

13 A nd when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

Cuando acabó de profetizar vino al lugar alto.

14 A nd Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses; and when we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.

Y un tío de Saúl le preguntó a él y a su criado: “¿Adónde fueron?” Saúl respondió: “A buscar las asnas. Cuando vimos que no aparecían, fuimos a ver a Samuel.”

15 A nd Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

El tío le dijo: “Te ruego que me cuentes qué les dijo Samuel.”

16 A nd Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But concerning the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

Y Saúl respondió a su tío: “Nos hizo saber claramente que las asnas habían sido halladas.” Pero Saúl no le contó acerca del asunto del reino que Samuel le había mencionado.

17 A nd Samuel called the people together unto Jehovah to Mizpah;

Después Samuel convocó al pueblo delante del Señor en Mizpa;

18 a nd he said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:

y dijo a los hijos de Israel: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y los libré del poder de los Egipcios y del poder de todos los reinos que los oprimían.’

19 b ut ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before Jehovah by your tribes, and by your thousands.

Pero ustedes han rechazado hoy a su Dios, que los libra de todas sus calamidades y sus angustias, y han dicho: ‘No, sino pon un rey sobre nosotros.’ Ahora pues, preséntense delante del Señor por sus tribus y por sus familias.”

20 S o Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

Samuel hizo que se acercaran todas las tribus de Israel, y fue escogida por sorteo la tribu de Benjamín.

21 A nd he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families; and the family of the Matrites was taken; and Saul the son of Kish was taken: but when they sought him, he could not be found.

Entonces hizo que se acercara la tribu de Benjamín por sus familias, y fue escogida la familia de Matri. Y Saúl, hijo de Cis, fue escogido; pero cuando lo buscaron no lo pudieron hallar.

22 T herefore they asked of Jehovah further, Is there yet a man to come hither? And Jehovah answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the baggage.

Volvieron, pues, a consultar al Señor: “¿Llegó ya el hombre aquí?” Y el Señor respondió: “Sí, está escondido junto al equipaje.”

23 A nd they ran and fetched him thence; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

Corrieron y lo trajeron de allí. Cuando estuvo en medio del pueblo, de los hombros arriba sobrepasaba a todos.

24 A nd Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom Jehovah hath chosen, that there is none like him along all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, Long live the king.

Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: “¿Ven al que el Señor ha escogido ? En verdad que no hay otro como él entre todo el pueblo.” Entonces todo el pueblo gritó, y dijo: “¡Viva el rey!”

25 T hen Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before Jehovah. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

Entonces Samuel dio al pueblo las ordenanzas del reino, y las escribió en el libro, el cual puso delante del Señor. Y despidió Samuel a todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa.

26 A nd Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched.

Saúl también se fue a su casa en Guibeá, y con él fueron los valientes cuyos corazones Dios había tocado.

27 B ut certain worthless fellows said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

Pero ciertos hombres indignos dijeron: “¿Cómo puede éste salvarnos?” Y lo despreciaron y no le trajeron presente alguno. Pero él guardó silencio.
