1 T hen Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that Jehovah hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance?

¶ Tomando entonces Samuel una ampolla de aceite, la derramó sobre su cabeza, y lo besó, y le dijo: ¿No te ha ungido el SEÑOR por capitán sobre su heredad?

2 W hen thou art departed from me to-day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found; and, lo, thy father hath left off caring for the asses, and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

Hoy, después que te hayas apartado de mí, hallarás dos varones junto al sepulcro de Raquel, en el término de Benjamín en Selsa, los cuales te dirán: Las asnas que habías ido a buscar, se han hallado; tu padre, pues, ha dejado ya el negocio de las asnas, si bien está angustiado por vosotros, diciendo: ¿Qué haré acerca de mi hijo?

3 T hen shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the oak of Tabor; and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

Y como de allí irás más adelante, llegarás a la campiña de Tabor, te saldrán al encuentro tres varones que suben a Dios en Bet-el, llevando uno tres cabritos, el otro tres tortas de pan, y el tercero un cántaro de vino.

4 a nd they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread, which thou shalt receive of their hand.

Los cuales, luego que te hayan saludado, te darán dos panes, los que tomarás de manos de ellos.

5 A fter that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying:

De allí vendrás al collado de Dios donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y cuando entres allá en la ciudad encontrarás una compañía de profetas que descienden del lugar alto, y delante de ellos salterio, adufe, flauta, y arpa, y ellos profetizando.

6 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

Y el Espíritu del SEÑOR te prosperará, y profetizarás con ellos, y serás mudado en otro varón.

7 A nd let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion shall serve thee; for God is with thee.

Y cuando te hubieren sobrevenido estas señales, haz según lo que te encontrare a la mano, porque Dios está contigo.

8 A nd thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt-offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.

Y bajarás delante de mí a Gilgal; y luego descenderé yo a ti para sacrificar holocaustos, e inmolar víctimas pacíficas. Tú me esperarás siete días, hasta que yo venga a ti, y te enseñe lo que has de hacer.

9 A nd it was so, that, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

¶ Y aconteció que cuando él volteó su hombro para partirse de Samuel, le mudó Dios su corazón; y todas estas señales acaecieron en aquel día.

10 A nd when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them.

Y cuando llegaron allá al collado, he aquí la compañía de los profetas que venía a encontrarse con él, y el Espíritu de Dios lo prosperó, y profetizó entre ellos.

11 A nd it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

Y aconteció que, cuando todos los que le conocían de ayer y de anteayer, vieron como profetizaba con los profetas. Y el pueblo decía el uno al otro: ¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Saúl también entre los profetas?

12 A nd one of the same place answered and said, And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Y un varón de allí respondió, y dijo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por esta causa se convirtió en proverbio: ¿También Saúl entre los profetas?

13 A nd when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

Y cesó de profetizar, y llegó al lugar alto.

14 A nd Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses; and when we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.

Y un tío de Saúl le dijo a él y a su criado: ¿A dónde fuisteis? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas; y como vimos que no aparecían, fuimos a Samuel.

15 A nd Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

Y dijo el tío de Saúl: Yo te ruego me declares qué os dijo Samuel.

16 A nd Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But concerning the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

Y Saúl respondió a su tío: Nos declaró expresamente que las asnas habían aparecido. Mas del negocio del reino, de que Samuel le había hablado, no le descubrió nada.

17 A nd Samuel called the people together unto Jehovah to Mizpah;

¶ Y Samuel convocó el pueblo al SEÑOR en Mizpa;

18 a nd he said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:

y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Así dijo el SEÑOR el Dios de Israel: Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y os libré de mano de los egipcios, y de mano de todos los reinos que os afligieron.

19 b ut ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before Jehovah by your tribes, and by your thousands.

Mas vosotros habéis desechado hoy a vuestro Dios, que os salva de todas vuestras aflicciones y angustias, diciendo: No, sino pon rey sobre nosotros. Ahora, pues, poneos delante del SEÑOR por vuestras tribus y por vuestros millares.

20 S o Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

Y haciendo acercar Samuel todas las tribus de Israel, fue tomada la tribu de Benjamín.

21 A nd he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families; and the family of the Matrites was taken; and Saul the son of Kish was taken: but when they sought him, he could not be found.

E hizo llegar la tribu de Benjamín por sus linajes, y fue tomada la familia de Matri; y de ella fue tomado Saúl hijo de Cis. Y cuando le buscaron, no fue hallado.

22 T herefore they asked of Jehovah further, Is there yet a man to come hither? And Jehovah answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the baggage.

Preguntaron, pues, otra vez al SEÑOR, si había aún de venir allí aquel varón. Y respondió el SEÑOR: He aquí que él está escondido entre el bagaje.

23 A nd they ran and fetched him thence; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

Entonces corrieron, y lo tomaron de allí, y puesto en medio del pueblo, desde el hombro arriba era más alto que todo el pueblo.

24 A nd Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom Jehovah hath chosen, that there is none like him along all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, Long live the king.

Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Habéis visto al que ha elegido el SEÑOR, que no hay semejante a él en todo el pueblo? Entonces el pueblo clamó diciendo: ¡Viva el rey!

25 T hen Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before Jehovah. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

Samuel recitó luego al pueblo el derecho del reino, y lo escribió en un libro, el cual guardó delante del SEÑOR.

26 A nd Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched.

Y envió Samuel a todo el pueblo cada uno a su casa. Y Saúl también se fue a su casa en Gabaa, y fueron con él algunos del ejército, el corazón de los cuales Dios había tocado.

27 B ut certain worthless fellows said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

Pero los hijos de Belial dijeron: ¿Cómo nos ha de salvar éste? Y le tuvieron en poco, y no le trajeron presente; mas él disimuló.
