1 A nd, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of Jehovah unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

Y he aquí que un varón de Dios por palabra del SEÑOR vino de Judá a Bet-el; y estando Jeroboam al altar para quemar incienso,

2 A nd he cried against the altar by the word of Jehovah, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith Jehovah: Behold, a son shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he sacrifice the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall they burn upon thee.

él clamó contra el altar por palabra del SEÑOR, y dijo: Altar, altar, así dijo el SEÑOR: He aquí que a la casa de David nacerá un hijo, llamado Josías, el cual sacrificará sobre ti a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que queman sobre ti incienso; y sobre ti quemarán huesos de hombres.

3 A nd he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which Jehovah hath spoken: Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

Y aquel mismo día dio una señal, diciendo: Esta es la señal de que el SEÑOR ha hablado: he aquí que el altar se quebrará, y la ceniza con la grosura que sobre él está se derramará.

4 A nd it came to pass, when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Beth-el, that Jeroboam put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to him.

Y cuando el rey oyó la palabra del varón de Dios, que había clamado contra el altar en Bet-el, extendiendo su mano desde el altar, Jeroboam dijo: ¡Prendedle! Mas la mano que había extendido contra él, se le secó, y no la pudo enderezar.

5 T he altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of Jehovah.

Y el altar se rompió, y se derramó la ceniza con la grosura del altar, conforme a la señal que el varón de Dios había dado por palabra del SEÑOR.

6 A nd the king answered and said unto the man of God, Entreat now the favor of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God entreated Jehovah, and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

Entonces respondiendo el rey, dijo al varón de Dios: Te pido que ruegues a la faz del SEÑOR tu Dios, y ora por mí, que mi mano me sea restituida. Y el varón de Dios oró a la faz del SEÑOR, y la mano del rey se le recuperó y se tornó como antes.

7 A nd the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.

Y el rey dijo al varón de Dios: Ven conmigo a casa, y comerás, y yo te daré un don.

8 A nd the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thy house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place;

Mas el varón de Dios dijo al rey: Si me dieras la mitad de tu casa, no iría contigo, ni comería pan ni bebería agua en este lugar;

9 f or so was it charged me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou shalt eat no bread, nor drink water, neither return by the way that thou camest.

porque así me está mandado por palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: No comas pan, ni bebas agua, ni vuelvas por el camino que fueres.

10 S o he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.

Se fue pues por otro camino, y no volvió por el camino por donde había venido a Bet-el.

11 N ow there dwelt an old prophet in Beth-el; and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Beth-el: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them also they told unto their father.

¶ Y moraba en Bet-el un viejo profeta, al cual unieron sus hijos, y le contó todo lo que el varón de Dios había hecho aquel día en Bet-el; y contaron también a su padre las palabras que había hablado al rey.

12 A nd their father said unto them, What way went he? Now his sons had seen what way the man of God went, that came from Judah.

Y su padre les dijo: ¿Por qué camino se fue? Y sus hijos le mostraron el camino por donde se había tornado el varón de Dios, que había venido de Judá.

13 A nd he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass; and he rode thereon.

Y él dijo a sus hijos: Ensilladme el asno. Y ellos le ensillaron el asno, y subió en él.

14 A nd he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak; and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.

Y yendo tras el varón de Dios, le halló que estaba sentado debajo de un alcornoque; y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el varón de Dios que viniste de Judá? Y él dijo: Yo soy.

15 T hen he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.

Le dijo entonces: Ven conmigo a casa, y come del pan.

16 A nd he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:

Mas él respondió: No podré volver contigo, ni iré contigo; ni tampoco comeré pan ni beberé agua contigo en este lugar;

17 f or it was said to me by the word of Jehovah, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.

porque por palabra de Dios me ha sido dicho: No comas pan ni bebas agua allí, ni vuelvas por el camino que fueres.

18 A nd he said unto him, I also am a prophet as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Bring him back with thee into thy house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.

Y el otro le dijo: Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me ha hablado por palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: Vuélvele contigo a tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua. Pero le mintió.

19 S o he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.

Entonces volvió con él, y comió del pan en su casa, y bebió del agua.

20 A nd it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of Jehovah came unto the prophet that brought him back;

Y aconteció que, estando ellos a la mesa, vino palabra del SEÑOR al profeta que le había hecho volver;

21 a nd he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, Forasmuch as thou hast been disobedient unto the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the commandment which Jehovah thy God commanded thee,

y clamó al varón de Dios que había venido de Judá, diciendo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por cuanto has sido rebelde al dicho del SEÑOR, y no guardaste el mandamiento que el SEÑOR tu Dios te había mandado,

22 b ut camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy body shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

sino que volviste, y comiste del pan y bebiste del agua en el lugar donde el SEÑOR te había dicho, que ni comieras pan, ni bebieras agua, no entrará tu cuerpo en el sepulcro de tus padres.

23 A nd it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.

Y cuando había comido del pan, y bebido, el profeta que le había hecho volver le ensilló un asno;

24 A nd when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his body was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it; the lion also stood by the body.

y yéndose, se encontró un león en el camino, y le mató; y su cuerpo estaba echado en el camino, y el asno estaba junto a él, y el león también estaba junto al cuerpo.

25 A nd, behold, men passed by, and saw the body cast in the way, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

Y he aquí unos que pasaban, y vieron el cuerpo que estaba echado en el camino, y el león que estaba junto al cuerpo; y vinieron, y lo dijeron en la ciudad donde el viejo profeta habitaba.

26 A nd when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the mouth of Jehovah: therefore Jehovah hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake unto him.

¶ Y oyéndolo el profeta que le había traído de vuelta del camino, dijo: El varón de Dios es, que fue rebelde al dicho del SEÑOR; por tanto el SEÑOR le ha entregado al león, que le ha quebrantado, matándole, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR que él le dijo.

27 A nd he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled it.

Y habló a sus hijos, y les dijo: Ensilladme un asno. Y ellos se lo ensillaron.

28 A nd he went and found his body cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the body: the lion had not eaten the body, nor torn the ass.

Y él fue, y halló su cuerpo tendido en el camino, y el asno y el león estaban junto al cuerpo; el león no había comido el cuerpo, ni dañado al asno.

29 A nd the prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back; and he came to the city of the old prophet, to mourn, and to bury him.

Y tomando el profeta el cuerpo del varón de Dios, lo puso sobre el asno, y se lo llevó. Y el profeta viejo vino a la ciudad, para endecharle y enterrarle.

30 A nd he laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!

Y puso su cuerpo en su sepulcro; y le endecharon, diciendo: ¡Ay, hermano mío!

31 A nd it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones.

Y después que le enterraron, habló a sus hijos, diciendo: Cuando yo muriere, enterradme en el sepulcro en que está sepultado el varón de Dios; poned mis huesos junto a los suyos.

32 F or the saying which he cried by the word of Jehovah against the altar in Beth-el, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

Porque sin duda vendrá lo que él dijo a voces por palabra del SEÑOR contra el altar que está en Bet-el, y contra todas las casas de los lugares altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria.

33 A fter this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again from among all the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.

Después de esto no se tornó Jeroboam de su mal camino; antes volvió a hacer sacerdotes de los lugares altos de entre lo más bajo del pueblo, y quien quería se consagraba, y era de los sacerdotes de los lugares altos.

34 A nd this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.

Y esto fue causa de pecado para la casa de Jeroboam; por lo cual fue cortada y raída de sobre la faz de la tierra.
