1 M y son, keep my words, And lay up my commandments with thee.

¶ Hijo mío, guarda mis razones, y encierra contigo mis mandamientos.

2 K eep my commandments and live; And my law as the apple of thine eye.

Guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás; y mi ley como las niñas de tus ojos.

3 B ind them upon thy fingers; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart.

Lígalos a tus dedos; escríbelos en la tabla de tu corazón.

4 S ay unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; And call understanding thy kinswoman:

Di a la sabiduría: Tú eres mi hermana; y a la inteligencia llama parienta,

5 T hat they may keep thee from the strange woman, From the foreigner that flattereth with her words.

para que te guarden de la mujer ajena, y de la extraña que ablanda sus palabras.

6 F or at the window of my house I looked forth through my lattice;

¶ Porque mirando yo por la ventana de mi casa, por mi celosía,

7 A nd I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, A young man void of understanding,

vi entre los simples, consideré entre los jóvenes, un joven falto de entendimiento,

8 P assing through the street near her corner; And he went the way to her house,

el cual pasaba por la calle, junto a la esquina de aquella, e iba camino de su casa;

9 I n the twilight, in the evening of the day, In the middle of the night and in the darkness.

a la tarde del día, ya que oscurecía; en la oscuridad y tiniebla de la noche.

10 A nd, behold, there met him a woman With the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart.

Y he aquí, una mujer que le sale al encuentro con atavío de ramera, guardada de corazón,

11 S he is clamorous and wilful; Her feet abide not in her house:

alborotadora y rencillosa, sus pies no pueden estar en casa;

12 N ow she is in the streets, now in the broad places, And lieth in wait at every corner.

unas veces de fuera, o bien por las plazas, acechando por todas las esquinas.

13 S o she caught him, and kissed him, And with an impudent face she said unto him:

Y traba de él, y lo besa; desvergonzó su rostro, y le dijo:

14 S acrifices of peace-offerings are with me; This day have I paid my vows.

Sacrificios de paz había prometido, hoy he pagado mis votos;

15 T herefore came I forth to meet thee, Diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

por tanto he salido a encontrarte, buscando tu rostro, y te he hallado.

16 I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, With striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.

Con paramentos he ataviado mi cama, recamados con cordoncillo de Egipto.

17 I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

He sahumado mi cámara con mirra, áloes, y canela.

18 C ome, let us take our fill of love until the morning; Let us solace ourselves with loves.

Ven, embriaguémonos de amores hasta la mañana; alegrémonos en amores.

19 F or the man is not at home; He is gone a long journey:

Porque el marido no está en casa, se ha ido a un largo viaje;

20 H e hath taken a bag of money with him; He will come home at the full moon.

el saco de dinero llevó en su mano, el día de la fiesta volverá a su casa.

21 W ith her much fair speech she causeth him to yield; With the flattering of her lips she forceth him along.

Lo derribó con la mucha suavidad de sus palabras, con la blandura de sus labios le persuadió.

22 H e goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;

Se va en pos de ella luego, como va el buey al degolladero, y como el loco a las prisiones para ser castigado;

23 T ill an arrow strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.

de tal manera que la saeta traspasó su hígado; como el ave que se apresura al lazo, y no sabe que es contra su vida.

24 N ow therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And attend to the words of my mouth.

¶ Ahora pues, hijos, oídme, y estad atentos a las razones de mi boca.

25 L et not thy heart decline to her ways; Go not astray in her paths.

No se aparte a sus caminos tu corazón; no yerres en sus veredas.

26 F or she hath cast down many wounded: Yea, all her slain are a mighty host.

Porque a muchos ha hecho caer muertos; y todos los fuertes han sido muertos por ella.

27 H er house is the way to Sheol, Going down to the chambers of death.

Caminos del Seol son su casa, que descienden a las cámaras de la muerte.
