1 M oreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

¶ Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Yo escogeré ahora doce mil hombres, y me levantaré, y seguiré a David esta noche;

2 a nd I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed, and will make him afraid; and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only;

y daré sobre él, que él estará cansado y flaco de manos; lo atemorizaré, y todo el pueblo que está con él huirá, y heriré al rey solo.

3 a nd I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

Así tornaré todo el pueblo a ti; y cuando ellos hubieren vuelto, (pues aquel hombre es el que tú quieres) todo el pueblo estará en paz.

4 A nd the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

Esta palabra fue recta en ojos Absalón y de todos los ancianos de Israel.

5 T hen said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

Y dijo Absalón: Yo te ruego que llames también a Husai, el arquita, para que asimismo oigamos lo que él dirá.

6 A nd when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not, speak thou.

Y cuando Husai vino a Absalón, le habló Absalón, diciendo: Así ha dicho Ahitofel; ¿seguiremos su consejo, o no? Di tú.

7 A nd Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given this time is not good.

Entonces Husai dijo a Absalón: El consejo que ha dado esta vez Ahitofel no es bueno.

8 H ushai said moreover, Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field; and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

Y añadió Husai: Tú sabes que tu padre y los suyos son hombres valientes, y que están ahora con amargura de ánimo, como la osa en el campo cuando le han quitado los hijos. Además, tu padre es hombre de guerra, y no pasará la noche con el pueblo.

9 B ehold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them are fallen at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

He aquí él estará ahora escondido en alguna cueva, o en algún otro lugar; y si al principio cayeren algunos de los tuyos, lo oirá quien lo oyere, y dirá: El pueblo que sigue a Absalón ha sido derrotado.

10 A nd even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they that are with him are valiant men.

Así aun el hombre valiente, cuyo corazón sea como corazón de león, sin duda desmayará; porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es hombre valiente, y que los que están con él son esforzados.

11 B ut I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

Mas yo aconsejo que todo Israel se junte a ti, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, que será en multitud como la arena que está a la orilla del mar, y que tú en persona vayas a la batalla.

12 S o shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leave so much as one.

Entonces le acometeremos en cualquier lugar que pudiere hallarse, y daremos sobre él como cuando el rocío cae sobre la tierra, y ni uno dejaremos de él, y de todos los que con él están.

13 M oreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

Y si se refugia en alguna ciudad, todos los de Israel traerán sogas a aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el arroyo, que nunca más parezca piedra de ella.

14 A nd Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

Entonces Absalón y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai, el arquita, es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel. Porque el SEÑOR había mandado que el acertado consejo de Ahitofel fuera disipado, para que el SEÑOR hiciera venir el mal sobre Absalón.

15 T hen said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.

¶ Dijo luego Husai a Sadoc y a Abiatar sacerdotes: Así y así aconsejó Ahitofel a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel; y yo aconsejé así y así.

16 N ow therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.

Por tanto enviad inmediatamente, y dad aviso a David, diciendo: No te quedes esta noche en los llanos del desierto, sino pasa luego el Jordán, para que el rey no sea consumido, y todo el pueblo que con él está.

17 N ow Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En-rogel; and a maid-servant used to go and tell them; and they went and told king David: for they might not be seen to come into the city.

Y Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban junto a la fuente de Rogel, porque no podían ellos mostrarse viniendo a la ciudad; y fue allá una criada, la cual les dio el aviso; y ellos fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David.

18 B ut a lad saw them, and told Absalom: and they went both of them away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down thither.

Pero fueron vistos por un joven, el cual lo dijo a Absalón; sin embargo los dos se dieron prisa a caminar, y llegaron a casa de un hombre en Bahurim, que tenía un pozo en su patio, dentro del cual ellos descendieron.

19 A nd the woman took and spread the covering over the well's mouth, and strewed bruised grain thereon; and nothing was known.

Y tomando la mujer de la casa una manta, la extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y tendió sobre ella del trigo majado, para que el negocio no fuera entendido.

20 A nd Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They are gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Llegando luego los criados de Absalón a la casa a la mujer, le dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les respondió: Ya han pasado el vado de las aguas. Y como ellos los buscaron y no los hallaron volvieron a Jerusalén.

21 A nd it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David; and they said unto David, Arise ye, and pass quickly over the water; for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

Y después que ellos partieron, aquellos salieron del pozo, y se fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David; y le dijeron: Levantaos y daos prisa a pasar las aguas, porque Ahitofel ha dado tal consejo contra vosotros.

22 T hen David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over the Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over the Jordan.

¶ Entonces David se levantó, y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y pasaron el Jordán antes que amaneciera; ni siquiera faltó uno que no pasara el Jordán.

23 A nd when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

Y Ahitofel, viendo que no se había seguido su consejo, enalbardó su asno, y se levantó, y se fue a su casa en su ciudad; y ordenó su casa, y se ahorcó y murió, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.

24 T hen David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

Y David llegó a Mahanaim, y Absalón pasó el Jordán con todos los varones de Israel.

25 A nd Absalom set Amasa over the host instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Israelite, that went in to Abigal the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

Y Absalón constituyó a Amasa, sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab, el cual Amasa fue hijo de un varón de Israel llamado Itra, el cual se había unido a Abigail hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.

26 A nd Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead.

Y asentó campamento Israel con Absalón en tierra de Galaad.

27 A nd it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

Y cuando David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi hijo de Nahas de Rabá de los hijos de Amón, y Maquir hijo de Amiel de Lodebar, y Barzilai galaadita de Rogelim,

28 b rought beds, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched grain, and beans, and lentils, and parched pulse,

trajeron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él, camas, tazas, vasijas de barro, trigo, cebada, harina, y trigo tostado, habas, lentejas, y garbanzos tostados,

29 a nd honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

miel, manteca, ovejas, y quesos de vacas, para que comieran; porque dijeron entre si: Aquel pueblo está hambriento, y cansado, y tendrá sed en el desierto.
