1 T hen Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose 12, 000 men, and I will leave and go after David tonight.

¶ Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Yo escogeré ahora doce mil hombres, y me levantaré, y seguiré a David esta noche;

2 I will come upon him while he is tired and weak. I will fill him with fear so that all the people who are with him will run away. Then I will kill the king alone

y daré sobre él, que él estará cansado y flaco de manos; lo atemorizaré, y todo el pueblo que está con él huirá, y heriré al rey solo.

3 a nd return all the people to you. All will return if the man you want to kill is dead. Then all the people will be at peace.”

Así tornaré todo el pueblo a ti; y cuando ellos hubieren vuelto, (pues aquel hombre es el que tú quieres) todo el pueblo estará en paz.

4 T he plan pleased Absalom and all the leaders of Israel.

Esta palabra fue recta en ojos Absalón y de todos los ancianos de Israel.

5 T hen Absalom said, “Call Hushai the Archite also. Let us hear what he has to say.”

Y dijo Absalón: Yo te ruego que llames también a Husai, el arquita, para que asimismo oigamos lo que él dirá.

6 W hen Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom said to him, “Ahithophel has said this. Should we do as he says? If not, tell us.”

Y cuando Husai vino a Absalón, le habló Absalón, diciendo: Así ha dicho Ahitofel; ¿seguiremos su consejo, o no? Di tú.

7 S o Hushai said to Absalom, “This time what Ahithophel has said to do is not good.”

Entonces Husai dijo a Absalón: El consejo que ha dado esta vez Ahitofel no es bueno.

8 H ushai said, “You know your father and his men. They are powerful and angry, like a bear robbed of her young ones in the field. And your father is a very able man of war. He will not stay with the people during the night.

Y añadió Husai: Tú sabes que tu padre y los suyos son hombres valientes, y que están ahora con amargura de ánimo, como la osa en el campo cuando le han quitado los hijos. Además, tu padre es hombre de guerra, y no pasará la noche con el pueblo.

9 H e has now hidden himself in one of the caves, or in another place. When some of the people are killed in the first battle, whoever hears it will say, ‘There have been many people killed who follow Absalom.’

He aquí él estará ahora escondido en alguna cueva, o en algún otro lugar; y si al principio cayeren algunos de los tuyos, lo oirá quien lo oyere, y dirá: El pueblo que sigue a Absalón ha sido derrotado.

10 E ven the one who has strength of heart like the heart of a lion will be afraid. For all Israel knows that your father is a powerful man, and that those who are with him are men with strength of heart.

Así aun el hombre valiente, cuyo corazón sea como corazón de león, sin duda desmayará; porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es hombre valiente, y que los que están con él son esforzados.

11 B ut I say that all Israel should be gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, as much as the sand by the sea. And you yourself should go into battle.

Mas yo aconsejo que todo Israel se junte a ti, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, que será en multitud como la arena que está a la orilla del mar, y que tú en persona vayas a la batalla.

12 S o we will find David wherever he is. We will fall on him like water falls on the ground in the early morning. And not he or any of the men with him will be left.

Entonces le acometeremos en cualquier lugar que pudiere hallarse, y daremos sobre él como cuando el rocío cae sobre la tierra, y ni uno dejaremos de él, y de todos los que con él están.

13 I f he runs into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city. We will pull it into the valley until not even a small stone is left there.”

Y si se refugia en alguna ciudad, todos los de Israel traerán sogas a aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el arroyo, que nunca más parezca piedra de ella.

14 T hen Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The words of Hushai the Archite are better than the words of Ahithophel.” In this way the Lord had planned to destroy the good leading of Ahithophel, so He might bring trouble to Absalom. David Is Told to Leave

Entonces Absalón y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai, el arquita, es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel. Porque el SEÑOR había mandado que el acertado consejo de Ahitofel fuera disipado, para que el SEÑOR hiciera venir el mal sobre Absalón.

15 H ushai said to Zadok and Abiathar the religious leaders, “This is what Ahithophel said that Absalom and the leaders of Israel should do. And this is what I have said they should do.

¶ Dijo luego Husai a Sadoc y a Abiatar sacerdotes: Así y así aconsejó Ahitofel a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel; y yo aconsejé así y así.

16 S o be quick to send someone to tell David, ‘Do not stay the night in the desert beside the place where the Jordan is crossed. But cross over, or the king and all the people with him will be destroyed.’”

Por tanto enviad inmediatamente, y dad aviso a David, diciendo: No te quedes esta noche en los llanos del desierto, sino pasa luego el Jordán, para que el rey no sea consumido, y todo el pueblo que con él está.

17 N ow Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at Enrogel. And a woman servant would go and tell them, and they would go and tell King David. For they could not be seen coming into the city.

Y Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban junto a la fuente de Rogel, porque no podían ellos mostrarse viniendo a la ciudad; y fue allá una criada, la cual les dio el aviso; y ellos fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David.

18 B ut a boy saw them, and told Absalom. So the two of them left in a hurry and came to the house of a man in Bahurim. He had a well in the open space in the center of his house. And they went down into it.

Pero fueron vistos por un joven, el cual lo dijo a Absalón; sin embargo los dos se dieron prisa a caminar, y llegaron a casa de un hombre en Bahurim, que tenía un pozo en su patio, dentro del cual ellos descendieron.

19 T hen the woman took the covering and spread it over the well’s mouth, and spread grain on it, so nothing was known of it.

Y tomando la mujer de la casa una manta, la extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y tendió sobre ella del trigo majado, para que el negocio no fuera entendido.

20 T hen Absalom’s servants came to the woman at the house and said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman answered, “They have crossed the river.” And after looking and not finding them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Llegando luego los criados de Absalón a la casa a la mujer, le dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les respondió: Ya han pasado el vado de las aguas. Y como ellos los buscaron y no los hallaron volvieron a Jerusalén.

21 W hen they had left, Ahimaaz and Jonathan came up out of the well and went and told King David. They said to David, “Be quick to get ready and cross over the water. For Ahithophel has told them to come against you.”

Y después que ellos partieron, aquellos salieron del pozo, y se fueron, y dieron aviso al rey David; y le dijeron: Levantaos y daos prisa a pasar las aguas, porque Ahitofel ha dado tal consejo contra vosotros.

22 S o David and all the people with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By the light of morning, not one was left who had not crossed the Jordan.

¶ Entonces David se levantó, y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y pasaron el Jordán antes que amaneciera; ni siquiera faltó uno que no pasara el Jordán.

23 W hen Ahithophel saw that his words were not followed, he got onto his donkey and went home to his city. He told those of his family what they must do, and he hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s grave.

Y Ahitofel, viendo que no se había seguido su consejo, enalbardó su asno, y se levantó, y se fue a su casa en su ciudad; y ordenó su casa, y se ahorcó y murió, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.

24 T hen David came to Mahanaim. Absalom and all the men of Israel with him crossed the Jordan.

Y David llegó a Mahanaim, y Absalón pasó el Jordán con todos los varones de Israel.

25 A bsalom made Amasa captain of the army instead of Joab. Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jithra the Israelite, who went in to Nahash’s daughter Abigal, the sister of Joab’s mother Zeruiah.

Y Absalón constituyó a Amasa, sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab, el cual Amasa fue hijo de un varón de Israel llamado Itra, el cual se había unido a Abigail hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.

26 A nd Israel and Absalom set up their tents in the land of Gilead.

Y asentó campamento Israel con Absalón en tierra de Galaad.

27 W hen David had come to Mahanaim, he met Nahash’s son Shobi from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Ammiel’s son Machir from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim.

Y cuando David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi hijo de Nahas de Rabá de los hijos de Amón, y Maquir hijo de Amiel de Lodebar, y Barzilai galaadita de Rogelim,

28 T hey brought him beds, washing pots, dishes, grain, flour, seeds,

trajeron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él, camas, tazas, vasijas de barro, trigo, cebada, harina, y trigo tostado, habas, lentejas, y garbanzos tostados,

29 h oney, sour milk, sheep, and cheese from the cattle, for David and his men to eat. For they said, “The people are hungry and tired and thirsty in the desert.”

miel, manteca, ovejas, y quesos de vacas, para que comieran; porque dijeron entre si: Aquel pueblo está hambriento, y cansado, y tendrá sed en el desierto.
