1 T hen the men of Ephraim said to Gideon, “What is this you have done to us? Why did you not call us when you went to fight against Midian?” They were angry when they argued with him.

¶ Y los de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho con nosotros, no llamándonos cuando ibas a la guerra contra Madián? Y le reconvinieron fuertemente.

2 B ut he said to them, “What have I done to compare with you? Are not the grapes that are left of Ephraim better than all the grapes gathered of Abiezer?

A los cuales él respondió: ¿Qué he hecho yo ahora como vosotros? ¿No es el rebusco de Efraín mejor que la vendimia de Abiezer?

3 G od has given the leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, into your hands. What was I able to do to compare with you?” They were no longer angry when he said that.

Dios ha entregado en vuestras manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, príncipes de Madián: ¿y qué pude yo hacer como vosotros? Entonces el enojo de ellos contra él se aplacó, luego que él habló esta palabra.

4 T hen Gideon and the 300 men with him came to the Jordan and crossed it. They were tired but they kept going.

¶ Y vino Gedeón al Jordán para pasar, él y los trescientos hombres que traía consigo, cansados del alcance.

5 G ideon said to the men of Succoth, “I ask of you, give loaves of bread to the people who are following me. For they are tired and weak. I am going after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

Y dijo a los de Sucot: Yo os ruego que deis a la gente que me sigue algunos bocados de pan; porque están cansados, para que yo persiga a Zeba y a Zalmuna, reyes de Madián.

6 B ut the leaders of Succoth said, “Are Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hands, that we should give bread to your army?”

Y los principales de Sucot respondieron: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y Zalmuna en tu mano, para que demos pan a tu ejército?

7 G ideon said, “The Lord will give Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand. Then I will beat your bodies with the thorns and thistles from the desert.”

Y Gedeón dijo: Pues cuando el SEÑOR hubiere entregado en mi mano a Zeba y a Zalmuna, yo trillaré vuestra carne con espinas y abrojos del desierto.

8 F rom there he went up to Penuel and spoke to them in the same way. The men of Penuel gave him the same answer as the men of Succoth.

Y de allí subió a Peniel, y les habló las mismas palabras. Y los de Peniel le respondieron como habían respondido los de Sucot.

9 S o he said to the men of Penuel, “When I return safe, I will tear down this tower.”

Y él habló también a los de Peniel, diciendo: Cuando yo vuelva en paz, derribaré esta torre.

10 N ow Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor. With them were their armies, about 15, 000 men. These were all who were left of the whole army of the people of the east. For 120, 000 men who fought with swords had been killed.

Y Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor, y con ellos su ejército como de quince mil hombres, todos los que habían quedado de todo el ejército de los hijos del oriente; y los muertos habían sido ciento veinte mil hombres que sacaban espada.

11 G ideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents east of Nobah and Jogbehah. And he fought against the army by surprise.

Y subiendo Gedeón por el camino de los que habitaban en tiendas, a la parte oriental de Noba y de Jogbeha, hirió el campamento, porque el campamento estaba seguro.

12 Z ebah and Zalmunna ran away. Gideon went after them and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna. The whole army was afraid.

Y huyendo Zeba y Zalmuna, él los siguió; y tomados los dos reyes de Madián, Zeba y Zalmuna, espantó a todo el ejército.

13 T hen Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle by the way of Heres.

Y Gedeón hijo de Joás volvió de la batalla antes que el sol subiera;

14 H e caught a young man from Succoth and asked him questions. The young man wrote down for him the rulers and leaders of Succoth, seventy-seven men.

y tomó a un joven de los de Sucot, y preguntándole, él le dio por escrito los principales de Sucot y sus ancianos, setenta y siete varones.

15 T hen Gideon came to the men of Succoth and said, “See, here are Zebah and Zalmunna. You laughed at me about these men, saying, ‘Are Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hand, that we should give bread to your weak and tired men?’”

Y entrando a los de Sucot, dijo: He aquí a Zeba y a Zalmuna, sobre los cuales me zaheristeis, diciendo: ¿Está ya la mano de Zeba y de Zalmuna en tu mano, para que demos nosotros pan a tus varones cansados?

16 T hen he took the leaders of the city and with thorns and thistles from the desert, he punished the men of Succoth.

Y tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y espinas y abrojos del desierto, y enseñó con ellos a los de Sucot.

17 T hen he tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.

Asimismo derribó la torre de Peniel, y mató a los de la ciudad.

18 G ideon said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” And they said, “They were like you. Each one looked like the son of a king.”

¶ Luego dijo a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Qué manera de hombres tenían aquellos que matasteis en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, tales eran aquellos ni más ni menos, que parecían hijos de rey.

19 G ideon said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the Lord lives, if you had let them live, I would not kill you.”

Y él dijo: Mis hermanos eran, hijos de mi madre. ¡Vive el SEÑOR, que si los hubierais guardado en vida, yo no os mataría!

20 T hen he said to Jether his first-born son, “Stand up and kill them.” But the boy did not pick up his sword. He was afraid because he was still a boy.

Y dijo a Jeter su primogénito: Levántate, y mátalos. Mas el joven no desenvainó su espada, porque tenía temor; que aun era muchacho.

21 Z ebah and Zalmunna said, “Stand up yourself and kill us. For as the man is, so is his strength.” So Gideon stood up and killed Zebah and Zalmunna. And he took the religious objects that were on their camels’ necks.

Entonces dijeron Zeba y Zalmuna: Levántate tú, y mátanos; porque como es el varón, tal es su valentía. Y Gedeón se levantó, y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna; y tomó las planchas que sus camellos traían al cuello.

22 T hen the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also. For you have set us free from the power of Midian.”

¶ Y los israelitas dijeron a Gedeón: Sé nuestro señor, tú, y tu hijo, y tu nieto; pues que nos has librado de mano de Madián.

23 B ut Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you. And my son will not rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.”

Mas Gedeón respondió: No seré señor sobre vosotros, ni mi hijo os señoreará; el SEÑOR será vuestro Señor.

24 G ideon said to them, “I only ask that each of you give me the gold objects you have taken to be worn on the ear.” (They had objects to be worn on the ear because they were Ishmaelites.)

Y les dijo Gedeón: Deseo haceros una petición, que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su despojo. (Porque traían zarcillos de oro, que eran ismaelitas.)

25 A nd they said, “For sure we will give them.” So they spread out a coat, and every one of them threw into it an object he had taken.

Y ellos respondieron: De buena gana los daremos. Y tendiendo una ropa de vestir, echó allí cada uno los zarcillos de su despojo.

26 T he gold objects Gideon had asked for were as heavy as 1, 700 pieces of gold money. He took the objects and purple clothing worn by the kings of Midian also. And he took the religious objects that were around the camels’ necks.

Y fue el peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió, mil setecientos siclos de oro; sin las planchas, y joyeles, y vestidos de púrpura, que traían los reyes de Madián, y sin los collares que traían sus camellos al cuello.

27 G ideon made it into a holy vest and put it in his city, Ophrah. All Israel worshiped it there. So it became a trap to Gideon and those of his house.

Y Gedeón hizo de ellos un efod, el cual hizo guardar en su ciudad de Ofra; y todo Israel fornicó tras de ese efod en aquel lugar; y fue por tropiezo a Gedeón y a su casa.

28 M idian was put under the power of the people of Israel. They did not lift up their heads any more. And the land had peace for forty years, during the life of Gideon. The Death of Gideon

Así fue quebrantado Madián delante de los hijos de Israel, y nunca más levantaron su cabeza. Y reposó la tierra cuarenta años en los días de Gedeón.

29 J oash’s son Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) went and lived in his own house.

¶ Y Jerobaal hijo de Joás fue, y habitó en su casa.

30 G ideon had seventy sons born to him, for he had many wives.

Y tuvo Gedeón setenta hijos que salieron de su muslo, porque tuvo muchas mujeres.

31 T he woman in Shechem who acted as his wife gave birth to Gideon’s son also. He was given the name Abimelech.

Y su concubina que estaba en Siquem, también le dio a luz un hijo; y le puso por nombre Abimelec.

32 G ideon the son of Joash died when he was very old. He was buried in the grave of his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Y murió Gedeón hijo de Joás en buena vejez, y fue sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre Joás, en Ofra de los abiezeritas.

33 A s soon as Gideon was dead, the people of Israel started again to worship the false gods of Baal. They made Baal-berith their god.

Y aconteció que cuando murió Gedeón, los hijos de Israel volvieron a fornicar en pos de los baales, y se pusieron por dios a Baal-berit.

34 T he people of Israel did not remember the Lord their God, Who had saved them from the power of all those around who hated them.

Y no se acordaron los hijos de Israel del SEÑOR su Dios, que los había librado de todos sus enemigos alrededor;

35 T hey did not show kindness to the family of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon). They did not remember all the good he had done to Israel.

ni hicieron misericordia con la casa de Jerobaal Gedeón, conforme a todo el bien que él había hecho a Israel.
