1 J esus did not stay in the country of Judea because the Jews were trying to kill Him. After this He went from place to place in the country of Galilee.

¶ Y pasadas estas cosas andaba Jesús en Galilea; que no quería andar en Judea, porque los judíos procuraban matarle.

2 A religious gathering of the Jews was near. This gathering was called the Supper of Tents.

Y estaba cerca la Fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos.

3 T he brothers of Jesus said to Him, “Leave here and go to the country of Judea. Let Your followers there see the things You do.

Y le dijeron sus hermanos: Pásate de aquí, y vete a Judea, para que tus discípulos también vean las obras que haces.

4 I f a person wants others to know what he is doing, he does things to be seen. Since You are doing such things, show Yourself to the world.”

Que ninguno que procura ser claro, hace algo en oculto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo.

5 N ot even His brothers were putting their trust in Him.

Porque ni aun sus hermanos creían en él.

6 J esus said to them, “My time has not yet come. But any time is good for you.

Les dice entonces Jesús: Mi tiempo aún no es venido; mas vuestro tiempo siempre es presto.

7 T he world cannot hate you but it hates Me. I speak against the world because of its sinful works.

No puede el mundo aborreceros a vosotros; mas a mí me aborrece, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus obras son malas.

8 Y ou go to the religious gathering. I am not going yet. My time has not yet come.”

Vosotros subid a esta Fiesta; yo no subo aún a esta Fiesta, porque mi tiempo aún no es cumplido.

9 J esus told His brothers this and then stayed in Galilee.

Y habiéndoles dicho esto, permaneció en Galilea.

10 H is brothers went to the religious gathering. He went later by Himself so He would not be seen there.

Mas como sus hermanos hubieron subido, entonces él también subió al día de la Fiesta, no manifiestamente, sino como en cubierto.

11 A t the religious gathering the Jews were looking for Jesus. They were saying, “Where is He?”

Y le buscaban los judíos en la Fiesta, y decían: ¿Dónde está aquel?

12 T here was much talk among the people about Him. Some said, “He is a good Man.” Others said, “No, He leads the people in the wrong way.”

Y había grande murmullo de él en el pueblo, porque unos decían: Bueno es; y otros decían: No, antes engaña al pueblo.

13 N o one spoke about Him in front of other people. They were afraid of the Jews. Jesus Tells Where His Teaching Is From

Mas ninguno hablaba abiertamente de él, por miedo de los judíos.

14 T he religious gathering was half over when Jesus went to the house of God and taught.

¶ Y al medio de la Fiesta subió Jesús al Templo, y enseñaba.

15 T he Jews were surprised and wondered, saying, “How can this Man know so much when He has never been to school?”

Y se maravillaban los judíos, diciendo: ¿Cómo sabe éste letras, no habiendo aprendido?

16 J esus said to them, “What I teach is not Mine. It is from God Who sent Me.

Les respondió Jesús, y dijo: Mi doctrina no es mía, sino de aquel que me envió.

17 I f anyone will do what God wants, he will know if My teaching is from God, or if I am speaking of Myself.

El que quisiere hacer su voluntad, conocerá de la doctrina si viene de Dios, o si yo hablo de mí mismo.

18 T he man who speaks of himself is looking for greatness for himself. But He Who is looking for the greatness of the One Who sent Him is true. There is nothing false in Him.

El que habla de sí mismo, gloria propia busca; mas el que busca la gloria del que le envió, éste es verdadero, y no hay en él injusticia.

19 D id not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law. Why do you try to kill me?”

¿No os dio Moisés la ley, y ninguno de vosotros cumple la ley? ¿Por qué me procuráis matar?

20 T he people said, “You have a demon in You. Who is trying to kill You?”

Respondió el pueblo, y dijo: Demonio tienes; ¿quién te procura matar?

21 J esus said to them, “I did one work and you are surprised.

Jesús respondió, y les dijo: Una obra hice, y todos os maravilláis.

22 M oses gave you the religious act of becoming a Jew. (Yet it was not from Moses but from the early fathers.) You do this religious act on a man on the Day of Rest.

Cierto, Moisés os dio la circuncisión (no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres); y en sábado circuncidáis al hombre.

23 N ow if you can do that, why are you angry with Me for healing a man on the Day of Rest?

Si recibe un hombre la circuncisión en sábado, sin que la ley de Moisés sea quebrantada, ¿os enojáis conmigo porque en sábado hice sano del todo a un hombre?

24 D o not say a person is guilty by what you see. Be sure you know when you say what is right or wrong.”

No juzguéis según lo que parece, mas juzgad con justo juicio.

25 S ome of the people of Jerusalem said, “Is not this the Man the Jews want to kill?

Decía entonces uno de los de Jerusalén: ¿No es éste al que buscan para matarle?

26 B ut see! This Man is speaking out in the open. They are saying nothing to Him. Do the leaders know this is the true Christ?

Y he aquí, habla públicamente, y no le dicen nada; ¿han por ventura entendido verdaderamente los príncipes, que éste es el Cristo?

27 W e know where this Man came from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He comes from.”

Mas éste, sabemos de dónde es; y cuando viniere el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde sea.

28 T hen Jesus spoke with a loud voice as He taught in the house of God. He said, “You know Me. You know where I came from. I have not come on My own. The One Who sent Me is true but you do not know Him.

Entonces clamaba Jesús en el Templo, enseñando y diciendo: Y a mí me conocéis, y sabéis de dónde soy; pero no he venido de mí mismo; mas el que me envió es verdadero, al cual vosotros no ignoráis.

29 I know Him because I am from Him and He sent Me.”

Pero yo le conozco, porque de él soy, y él me envió.

30 T hen they wanted to take Jesus but no one put his hands on Him. His time had not yet come.

Entonces procuraban prenderle; mas ninguno puso en él mano, porque aún no había venido su hora.

31 M any of the people believed in Him. They said, “When Christ comes, will He do more powerful works than this Man?”

Y muchos del pueblo creyeron en él, y decían: El Cristo, cuando viniere, ¿hará más señales que las que éste hace?

32 T he proud religious law-keepers heard the people talking about Jesus. The religious leaders of the Jews and the proud religious law-keepers sent soldiers to take Him.

Los fariseos oyeron al pueblo que murmuraba de él estas cosas; y los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron servidores que le prendieran.

33 J esus said to them, “I will be with you a little while yet. Then I will go back to Him Who sent Me.

Y Jesús dijo: Aún un poco de tiempo estaré con vosotros, e iré al que me envió.

34 Y ou will look for Me but you will not find Me. Where I go, you cannot come.”

Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis venir.

35 T he Jews said to themselves, “Where can He go that we will not find Him? Will He go to our people who live among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

Entonces los judíos dijeron entre sí: ¿A dónde se ha de ir éste que no le hallemos? ¿Se ha de ir a los esparcidos entre los griegos, y a enseñar a los griegos?

36 W hat does He mean when He says, ‘You will look for Me but you will not find Me, and where I go, you cannot come’ ?” Jesus Promises to Give the Holy Spirit

¿Qué dicho es éste que dijo: Me buscaréis, y no me hallaréis; y donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis venir?

37 I t was the last and great day of the religious gathering. Jesus stood up and spoke with a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

¶ Mas en el postrer día, el día grande de la Fiesta, se puso de pie y clamó, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, venga a mí y beba.

38 T he Holy Writings say that rivers of living water will flow from the heart of the one who puts his trust in Me.”

El que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, ríos de agua viva correrán de su vientre.

39 J esus said this about the Holy Spirit Who would come to those who put their trust in Him. The Holy Spirit had not yet been given. Jesus had not yet been raised to the place of honor. The People Cannot Make Up Their Minds Who He Is

(Y esto dijo del Espíritu que habían de recibir los que creyeran en él; porque aún no era dado el Espíritu Santo, porque Jesús aún no era glorificado.)

40 W hen many of the people heard His words, they said, “For sure, this is the One Who speaks for God.”

Entonces muchos del pueblo, oyendo este dicho, decían: Verdaderamente éste es el profeta.

41 O thers said, “He is the Christ!” Some said, “The Christ would not come from the country of Galilee, would He?

Otros decían: Este es el Cristo. Algunos sin embargo decían: ¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo?

42 D o not the Holy Writings say that the Christ will come from the family of David? Will He not come from the town of Bethlehem where David lived?”

¿No dice la Escritura, que de la simiente de David, y de la aldea de Belén, de donde era David, vendrá el Cristo?

43 T he people were divided in what they thought about Him.

Así que había disensión entre el pueblo por él.

44 S ome of them wanted to take Him. But no one put their hands on Him.

Y algunos de ellos querían prenderle; mas ninguno echó sobre él manos.

45 T he soldiers came back to the religious leaders of the Jews and to the proud religious law-keepers. They said to the soldiers, “Why did you not bring Him?”

¶ Y los servidores vinieron a los sumo sacerdotes y a los fariseos; y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis?

46 T he soldiers answered, “No man has ever spoken like this Man speaks.”

Los servidores respondieron: Nunca ha hablado nadie así como este hombre.

47 T he proud religious law-keepers said, “Have you been led the wrong way also?

Entonces los fariseos les respondieron: ¿Habéis sido también vosotros engañados?

48 H as anyone of the leaders or anyone from our group believed in Him?

¿Ha creído en él alguno de los príncipes, o de los fariseos?

49 A s for all these people, they do not know the Law. They are guilty and will be punished by God.”

Sino este pueblo que no sabe la ley, malditos son.

50 ( Nicodemus was one of the proud religious law-keepers. He had come to Jesus at another time.) Nicodemus said to them,

Les dice Nicodemo (el que vino a él de noche, el cual era uno de ellos):

51 “ Our Law does not say a man is guilty before he has been in court and before we know what he has done.”

¿Nuestra ley juzga por ventura a un hombre, si primero no oyere de él, y entendiere lo que ha hecho?

52 T hey said to him, “Are you from Galilee also? Look into the Word of God yourself. You will see that no one who speaks for God comes from Galilee.”

Respondieron y le dijeron: ¿No eres tú también galileo? Escudriña y ve que de Galilea nunca se levantó profeta.

53 T hen everyone went home.

Y se fue cada uno a su casa.
