1 J esus did not stay in the country of Judea because the Jews were trying to kill Him. After this He went from place to place in the country of Galilee.

Después de esto andaba Jesús en Galilea, pues no quería andar en Judea, porque los judíos intentaban matarlo.

2 A religious gathering of the Jews was near. This gathering was called the Supper of Tents.

Estaba cerca la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos,

3 T he brothers of Jesus said to Him, “Leave here and go to the country of Judea. Let Your followers there see the things You do.

y le dijeron sus hermanos: —Sal de aquí, y vete a Judea, para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que haces,

4 I f a person wants others to know what he is doing, he does things to be seen. Since You are doing such things, show Yourself to the world.”

porque ninguno que procura darse a conocer hace algo en secreto. Si estas cosas haces, manifiéstate al mundo.

5 N ot even His brothers were putting their trust in Him.

Ni aun sus hermanos creían en él.

6 J esus said to them, “My time has not yet come. But any time is good for you.

Entonces Jesús les dijo: —Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, pero vuestro tiempo siempre está preparado.

7 T he world cannot hate you but it hates Me. I speak against the world because of its sinful works.

No puede el mundo odiaros a vosotros; pero a mí me odia, porque yo testifico de él, que sus obras son malas.

8 Y ou go to the religious gathering. I am not going yet. My time has not yet come.”

Subid vosotros a la fiesta; yo no subo todavía a esa fiesta, porque mi tiempo aún no se ha cumplido.

9 J esus told His brothers this and then stayed in Galilee.

Y habiéndoles dicho esto se quedó en Galilea. Jesús en la fiesta de los Tabernáculos

10 H is brothers went to the religious gathering. He went later by Himself so He would not be seen there.

Pero después que sus hermanos subieron, entonces él también subió a la fiesta, no abiertamente, sino como en secreto.

11 A t the religious gathering the Jews were looking for Jesus. They were saying, “Where is He?”

Y lo buscaban los judíos en la fiesta, y decían: —¿Dónde estará aquél?

12 T here was much talk among the people about Him. Some said, “He is a good Man.” Others said, “No, He leads the people in the wrong way.”

Y había mucha murmuración acerca de él entre la multitud, pues unos decían: «Es bueno»; pero otros decían: «No, sino que engaña al pueblo.»

13 N o one spoke about Him in front of other people. They were afraid of the Jews. Jesus Tells Where His Teaching Is From

Sin embargo, ninguno hablaba abiertamente de él por miedo a los judíos.

14 T he religious gathering was half over when Jesus went to the house of God and taught.

Pero a la mitad de la fiesta subió Jesús al Templo, y enseñaba.

15 T he Jews were surprised and wondered, saying, “How can this Man know so much when He has never been to school?”

Y se admiraban los judíos, diciendo: —¿Cómo sabe éste letras sin haber estudiado?

16 J esus said to them, “What I teach is not Mine. It is from God Who sent Me.

Jesús les respondió y dijo: —Mi doctrina no es mía, sino de aquel que me envió.

17 I f anyone will do what God wants, he will know if My teaching is from God, or if I am speaking of Myself.

El que quiera hacer la voluntad de Dios, conocerá si la doctrina es de Dios o si yo hablo por mi propia cuenta.

18 T he man who speaks of himself is looking for greatness for himself. But He Who is looking for the greatness of the One Who sent Him is true. There is nothing false in Him.

El que habla por su propia cuenta, su propia gloria busca; pero el que busca la gloria del que lo envió, éste es verdadero y no hay en él injusticia.

19 D id not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law. Why do you try to kill me?”

¿No os dio Moisés la Ley? Sin embargo, ninguno de vosotros la cumple. ¿Por qué intentáis matarme?

20 T he people said, “You have a demon in You. Who is trying to kill You?”

Respondió la multitud y dijo: —Demonio tienes, ¿quién intenta matarte?

21 J esus said to them, “I did one work and you are surprised.

Jesús respondió y les dijo: —Una obra hice y todos os admiráis.

22 M oses gave you the religious act of becoming a Jew. (Yet it was not from Moses but from the early fathers.) You do this religious act on a man on the Day of Rest.

Por cierto, Moisés os dio la circuncisión —no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres— y en sábado circuncidáis al hombre.

23 N ow if you can do that, why are you angry with Me for healing a man on the Day of Rest?

Si recibe el hombre la circuncisión en sábado, para que la Ley de Moisés no sea quebrantada, ¿os enojáis conmigo porque en sábado sané completamente a un hombre?

24 D o not say a person is guilty by what you see. Be sure you know when you say what is right or wrong.”

No juzguéis según las apariencias, sino juzgad con justo juicio. ¿Es éste el Cristo?

25 S ome of the people of Jerusalem said, “Is not this the Man the Jews want to kill?

Decían entonces unos de Jerusalén: —¿No es a éste a quien buscan para matarlo?

26 B ut see! This Man is speaking out in the open. They are saying nothing to Him. Do the leaders know this is the true Christ?

Pues mirad, habla públicamente y no le dicen nada. ¿Habrán reconocido en verdad las autoridades que éste es el Cristo?

27 W e know where this Man came from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He comes from.”

Pero éste, sabemos de dónde es; sin embargo, cuando venga el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde es.

28 T hen Jesus spoke with a loud voice as He taught in the house of God. He said, “You know Me. You know where I came from. I have not come on My own. The One Who sent Me is true but you do not know Him.

Jesús entonces, enseñando en el Templo, alzó la voz y dijo: —A mí me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy; no he venido de mí mismo, pero el que me envió, a quien vosotros no conocéis, es verdadero.

29 I know Him because I am from Him and He sent Me.”

Pero yo lo conozco, porque de él procedo, y él me envió.

30 T hen they wanted to take Jesus but no one put his hands on Him. His time had not yet come.

Entonces intentaban prenderlo; pero ninguno le echó mano, porque aún no había llegado su hora.

31 M any of the people believed in Him. They said, “When Christ comes, will He do more powerful works than this Man?”

Y muchos de la multitud creyeron en él y decían: —El Cristo, cuando venga, ¿hará más señales que las que éste hace? Los fariseos envían guardias para detener a Jesús

32 T he proud religious law-keepers heard the people talking about Jesus. The religious leaders of the Jews and the proud religious law-keepers sent soldiers to take Him.

Los fariseos oyeron a la gente que murmuraba de él estas cosas. Entonces los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron guardias para que lo prendieran.

33 J esus said to them, “I will be with you a little while yet. Then I will go back to Him Who sent Me.

Y Jesús dijo: —Todavía estaré con vosotros algún tiempo, y luego iré al que me envió.

34 Y ou will look for Me but you will not find Me. Where I go, you cannot come.”

Me buscaréis, pero no me hallaréis, y a donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis ir.

35 T he Jews said to themselves, “Where can He go that we will not find Him? Will He go to our people who live among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

Entonces los judíos dijeron entre sí: —¿Adónde se irá éste, que no lo hallaremos? ¿Se irá a los dispersos entre los griegos y enseñará a los griegos?

36 W hat does He mean when He says, ‘You will look for Me but you will not find Me, and where I go, you cannot come’ ?” Jesus Promises to Give the Holy Spirit

¿Qué significa esto que dijo: “Me buscaréis, pero no me hallaréis, y a donde yo estaré, vosotros no podréis ir”? Ríos de agua viva

37 I t was the last and great day of the religious gathering. Jesus stood up and spoke with a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

En el último y gran día de la fiesta, Jesús se puso en pie y alzó la voz, diciendo: —Si alguien tiene sed, venga a mí y beba.

38 T he Holy Writings say that rivers of living water will flow from the heart of the one who puts his trust in Me.”

El que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, de su interior brotarán ríos de agua viva.

39 J esus said this about the Holy Spirit Who would come to those who put their trust in Him. The Holy Spirit had not yet been given. Jesus had not yet been raised to the place of honor. The People Cannot Make Up Their Minds Who He Is

Esto dijo del Espíritu que habían de recibir los que creyeran en él, pues aún no había venido el Espíritu Santo, porque Jesús no había sido aún glorificado. División entre la gente

40 W hen many of the people heard His words, they said, “For sure, this is the One Who speaks for God.”

Entonces algunos de la multitud, oyendo estas palabras, decían: «Verdaderamente éste es el Profeta.»

41 O thers said, “He is the Christ!” Some said, “The Christ would not come from the country of Galilee, would He?

Otros decían: «Éste es el Cristo.» Pero algunos decían: «¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo?

42 D o not the Holy Writings say that the Christ will come from the family of David? Will He not come from the town of Bethlehem where David lived?”

¿No dice la Escritura que de la descendencia de David, y de la aldea de Belén, de donde era David, ha de venir el Cristo?»

43 T he people were divided in what they thought about Him.

Hubo entonces división entre la gente a causa de él.

44 S ome of them wanted to take Him. But no one put their hands on Him.

Y algunos de ellos querían prenderlo, pero ninguno le echó mano. ¡Nunca nadie ha hablado así!

45 T he soldiers came back to the religious leaders of the Jews and to the proud religious law-keepers. They said to the soldiers, “Why did you not bring Him?”

Los guardias vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y a los fariseos. Entonces estos les preguntaron: —¿Por qué no lo habéis traído?

46 T he soldiers answered, “No man has ever spoken like this Man speaks.”

Los guardias respondieron: —¡Jamás hombre alguno ha hablado como este hombre!

47 T he proud religious law-keepers said, “Have you been led the wrong way also?

Entonces los fariseos les preguntaron: —¿También vosotros habéis sido engañados?

48 H as anyone of the leaders or anyone from our group believed in Him?

¿Acaso ha creído en él alguno de los gobernantes o de los fariseos?

49 A s for all these people, they do not know the Law. They are guilty and will be punished by God.”

Pero esta gente que no sabe la Ley, maldita es.

50 ( Nicodemus was one of the proud religious law-keepers. He had come to Jesus at another time.) Nicodemus said to them,

Les dijo Nicodemo, el que vino a él de noche, el cual era uno de ellos:

51 “ Our Law does not say a man is guilty before he has been in court and before we know what he has done.”

—¿Juzga acaso nuestra Ley a un hombre si primero no lo oye y sabe lo que ha hecho?

52 T hey said to him, “Are you from Galilee also? Look into the Word of God yourself. You will see that no one who speaks for God comes from Galilee.”

Respondieron y le dijeron: —¿Eres tú también galileo? Escudriña y ve que de Galilea nunca se ha levantado un profeta. La mujer adúltera

53 T hen everyone went home.

Y cada uno se fue a su casa,
