1 I n the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, King Rezin of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to make war against Jerusalem. But they could not win the battle.

Aconteció en los días de Acaz hijo de Jotam hijo de Uzías, rey de Judá, que Rezín, rey de Siria, y Peka hijo de Remalías, rey de Israel, subieron contra Jerusalén para combatirla; pero no la pudieron tomar.

2 W hen the family of David was told, “Syria has joined with Ephraim,” his heart and the hearts of his people shook as trees shake with the wind.

Y llegó la noticia a la casa de David, diciendo: —Siria se ha confederado con Efraín. Y se le estremeció el corazón y el corazón de su pueblo, como se estremecen los árboles del monte a causa del viento.

3 T hen the Lord said to Isaiah, “Now you and your son Shear-jashub go out to meet Ahaz at the end of the ditch of the upper pool on the road to the Fuller’s Field.

Entonces dijo Jehová a Isaías: —Sal ahora al encuentro de Acaz, tú y Sear-jasub, tu hijo, al extremo del acueducto del estanque de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Lavador,

4 S ay to him, ‘Be careful and quiet. Do not be afraid or weak in your heart because of these two pieces of burnt and smoking wood. Do not be afraid of the burning anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah.

y dile: “Cuídate y ten calma; no temas ni se turbe tu corazón a causa de estos dos cabos de tizón que humean, por el ardor de la ira de Rezín y de Siria, y del hijo de Remalías.

5 S yria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, have made sinful plans against you, saying,

Ha concertado un maligno plan contra ti el sirio, con Efraín y con el hijo de Remalías, diciendo:

6 “ Let us go up against Judah and make the people very afraid. Let us break open its walls, and make the son of Tabeel its king.”

‘Vayamos contra Judá y aterroricémosla; repartámosla entre nosotros y pongamos en medio de ella por rey al hijo de Tabeel.’”

7 B ut the Lord God says, “This plan will not work. It will not happen.

Por tanto, Jehová, el Señor dice: “No sucederá eso; no será así.

8 F or the head of Syria is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin. (Within another sixty-five years Ephraim will be destroyed so that it is no longer a people.)

Porque la cabeza de Siria es Damasco y la cabeza de Damasco, Rezín; y dentro de sesenta y cinco años Efraín será quebrantado hasta dejar de ser pueblo.

9 T he head of Ephraim is Samaria. And the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, for sure you will not last.”’” Word about Immanuel

Y la cabeza de Efraín es Samaria y la cabeza de Samaria, el hijo de Remalías. Si vosotros no creéis, de cierto no permaneceréis.”

10 T hen the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying,

Habló también Jehová a Acaz, diciendo:

11 “ Ask for something special to see from the Lord your God. Ask for it to be as deep as the place of the dead or as high as heaven.”

—Pide para ti una señal de parte de Jehová tu Dios, demandándola ya sea de abajo en lo profundo o de arriba en lo alto.

12 B ut Ahaz said, “I will not ask. I will not test the Lord.”

Y respondió Acaz: —No pediré ni tentaré a Jehová.

13 T hen Isaiah said, “Listen now, O people of David! Is it too small a thing for you to test men, that you will test my God as well?

Dijo entonces Isaías: —Oíd ahora, casa de David: ¿No os basta con ser molestos a los hombres, sino que también lo seáis a mi Dios?

14 S o the Lord Himself will give you a special thing to see: A young woman, who has never had a man, will give birth to a son. She will give Him the name Immanuel.

Por tanto, el Señor mismo os dará señal: La virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y le pondrá por nombre Emanuel.

15 H e will eat milk and honey when He knows enough to have nothing to do with wrong-doing and chooses good.

Comerá mantequilla y miel, hasta que sepa desechar lo malo y escoger lo bueno.

16 F or before the boy knows to turn away from what is bad and choose good, the land whose two kings you are afraid of will be left empty.”

Porque antes que el niño sepa desechar lo malo y escoger lo bueno, la tierra de los dos reyes que tú temes será abandonada.

17 T he Lord will bring upon you and your people and your father’s house such days as have never come since the day that Ephraim was divided from Judah. He is going to bring the king of Assyria on you.

»Jehová hará venir sobre ti, sobre la casa de tu padre y sobre tu pueblo días cuales nunca vinieron desde el día en que Efraín se apartó de Judá (esto es, al rey de Asiria).

18 I n that day the Lord will call for flies that are in the farthest part of the rivers of Egypt, and for bees that are in the land of Assyria.

»Acontecerá que aquel día silbará Jehová al tábano que está en el fin de los ríos de Egipto y a la abeja que está en la tierra de Asiria.

19 T hey will all come and stay in the narrow valleys, on the hill-sides, on the thorn bushes, and in the fields.

Ellos vendrán y acamparán todos en los valles desiertos, en las cavernas de las piedras, en todos los zarzales y en todas las matas.

20 I n that day the Lord will use the king of Assyria from the other side of the Euphrates to cut off the hair from your head, your legs, and your face.

Aquel día rapará el Señor con navaja alquilada, con los que habitan al otro lado del río (esto es, con el rey de Asiria), cabeza y pelo de los pies, y aun la barba afeitará también.

21 I n that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep.

»Acontecerá en aquel tiempo que criará un hombre una vaca y dos ovejas,

22 A nd because they give much milk, he will have all he can use. For everyone who is left in the land will have milk and honey to eat.

y a causa de la abundancia de leche que darán, comerá mantequilla; ciertamente mantequilla y miel comerá el que quede en medio del país.

23 I n that day, every place where there used to be a thousand vines, worth a thousand pieces of silver, will be thistles and thorns.

»Acontecerá también en aquel tiempo que el lugar donde había mil vides, que valían mil siclos de plata, será para espinos y cardos.

24 M en will go there with bows and arrows because all the land will be covered with thistles and thorns.

Con saetas y arco irán allá, porque toda la tierra será espinos y cardos.

25 A s for all the hills which used to be cared for as a garden, you will not go there for fear of thistles and thorns. They will become a place where cattle feed and where sheep will run.

Y a ninguno de los montes que se cavaban con azada se atreverán ya a ir, por el temor de los espinos y los cardos. Quedarán para pasto de los bueyes y para ser pisoteados por las ovejas.
