1 N ow Pashhur the religious leader, the son of Immer, was the head leader in the house of the Lord. When he heard Jeremiah saying these things,

El sacerdote Pasur hijo de Imer, que presidía como principal en la casa de Jehová, oyó a Jeremías profetizar estas palabras.

2 P ashhur had Jeremiah the man of God beaten. Then he put him in chains at the upper Benjamin Gate by the house of the Lord.

Entonces Pasur hizo azotar al profeta Jeremías y lo puso en el cepo que estaba en la puerta superior de Benjamín, la cual conducía a la casa de Jehová.

3 O n the next day, when Pashhur set Jeremiah free from the chains, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call you Pashhur, but Fear Everywhere.

Al día siguiente, Pasur sacó a Jeremías del cepo. Le dijo entonces Jeremías: «Jehová no ha llamado tu nombre Pasur, sino Magor-misabib.

4 F or the Lord says, ‘See, I am going to make you a fear to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of those who hate them while you look on. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. And he will carry them away in chains to Babylon and will kill them with the sword.

Y así ha dicho Jehová: “He aquí, yo haré que seas un terror para ti mismo y para todos los que bien te quieren. Caerán por la espada de sus enemigos, y tus ojos lo verán. A todo Judá entregaré en manos del rey de Babilonia, que los llevará cautivos a Babilonia y los matará a espada.

5 I will give over all the riches of this city, all that its people have worked for, and all its things of much worth. Even all the riches of the kings of Judah I will give to those who hate them. They will take their things, and take hold of them, and carry them to Babylon.

Entregaré asimismo toda la riqueza de esta ciudad, todo su trabajo y todas sus cosas preciosas. Entregaré todos los tesoros de los reyes de Judá en manos de sus enemigos, que los saquearán, los tomarán y los llevarán a Babilonia.

6 A nd you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will be taken away in chains. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have told lies.’” Jeremiah’s Complaint to the Lord

Y tú, Pasur, y todos los que habitan en tu casa iréis cautivos. Entrarás en Babilonia y allí morirás. Allí serás enterrado, tú y todos los que bien te quieren, a los cuales has profetizado con mentira.”» Lamento de Jeremías

7 O Lord, You have lied to me and I was fooled. You are stronger than I, and have had power over me. I have been laughed at all day. Everyone makes fun of me.

¡Me sedujiste, Jehová, y me dejé seducir! ¡Más fuerte fuiste que yo, y me venciste! ¡Cada día he sido escarnecido, cada cual se burla de mí!

8 F or whenever I speak, I cry out. I tell of fighters and destroyers. For the Word of the Lord has become a shame and a cause of laughing at me all day long.

Cuantas veces hablo, doy voces, grito: «¡Violencia y destrucción!», porque la palabra de Jehová me ha sido para afrenta y escarnio cada día.

9 B ut if I say, “I will not remember Him or speak any more in His name,” then in my heart it is like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I am tired of holding it in, and I cannot do that.

Por eso dije: «¡No me acordaré más de él ni hablaré más en su nombre!» No obstante, había en mi corazón como un fuego ardiente metido en mis huesos. Traté de resistirlo, pero no pude.

10 F or I have heard many speaking in secret, saying, “Fear and trouble is on every side! Speak against him! Yes, let us speak against him!” All my trusted friends, watching for my fall, say, “It may be that he will be fooled. Then we can get power over him and punish him.”

He oído lo que muchos murmuran: «¡Terror por todas partes! ¡Denunciadlo, denunciémoslo!» Todos mis amigos esperaban que claudicara. Decían: «¡Quizá se engañe, y prevaleceremos contra él y tomaremos de él nuestra venganza!»

11 B ut the Lord is with me like a powerful one who causes fear. So those who make it hard for me will fall and not have power over me. They will be put to much shame, because their plans have not gone well. Their shame will last forever and will not be forgotten.

Mas Jehová está conmigo como un poderoso gigante; por tanto, los que me persiguen tropezarán y no prevalecerán; serán avergonzados en gran manera, porque no prosperarán; tendrán perpetua confusión, que jamás será olvidada.

12 O Lord of All, You test those who are right and good. You see the mind and the heart. Let me see You punish them, for I have given my cause to You.

Jehová de los ejércitos, que pruebas a los justos, que ves los pensamientos y el corazón, ¡vea yo tu venganza de ellos, porque a ti he encomendado mi causa!

13 S ing to the Lord! Praise the Lord! For He has taken the soul of the one in need from the hand of the sinful.

¡Cantad a Jehová, alabad a Jehová, porque ha librado la vida del pobre de mano de los malignos!

14 C ursed is the day when I was born! Let the day not be honored when my mother gave birth to me!

¡Maldito el día en que nací! ¡Que no sea bendecido el día en que mi madre me dio a luz!

15 C ursed be the man who brought the news to my father, saying, “A baby boy has been born to you!” and made him very happy.

¡Maldito el hombre que dio la noticia a mi padre, diciendo: «Un hijo varón te ha nacido», causándole gran alegría!

16 L et that man be like the cities which the Lord destroyed without pity. Let him hear a cry in the morning and a call of danger at noon.

Sea tal hombre como las ciudades que asoló Jehová sin volverse atrás de ello; que oiga gritos por la mañana y voces a mediodía,

17 F or he did not kill me before I was born, so that my mother’s body would have been my grave.

porque no me mató en el vientre. Mi madre entonces hubiera sido mi sepulcro, pues su vientre habría quedado embarazado para siempre.

18 W hy was I ever born to see trouble and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?

¿Para qué salí del vientre? ¿Para ver trabajo y dolor, y que mis días se gastaran en afrenta?
