1 T he Word of the Lord came to me saying,

2 “ Go and speak so those in Jerusalem will hear, ‘This is what the Lord says: “I remember how you loved Me when you were young. Your love was as a bride. I remember how you followed Me in the desert, through a land that had not been planted.
«Anda y proclama a los oídos de Jerusalén, diciendo que así dice Jehová: “Me he acordado de ti, de la fidelidad de tu juventud, del amor de tu desposorio, cuando andabas en pos de mí en el desierto, en tierra no sembrada.”

Santo era Israel a Jehová, primicias de sus nuevos frutos. Todos los que lo devoraban eran culpables; mal venía sobre ellos, dice Jehová.»
4 H ear the Word of the Lord, O family of Jacob, and all the families of the people of Israel.
¡Oíd la palabra de Jehová, casa de Jacob y todas las familias de la casa de Israel!
5 T he Lord says, “What wrong did your fathers find in Me, that they turned so far from Me and followed false gods?
Así dice Jehová: «¿Qué maldad hallaron en mí vuestros padres, que se alejaron de mí, y se fueron tras la vanidad y se volvieron vanos?
6 T hey did not say, ‘Where is the Lord Who brought us up from the land of Egypt? Where is He Who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and deep holes, through a land without water and with much trouble, through a land that no one traveled and where no man lived?’
No dijeron: “¿Dónde está Jehová, que nos hizo subir de la tierra de Egipto, que nos condujo por el desierto, por una tierra desierta y despoblada, por tierra seca y de sombra de muerte, por una tierra por la cual no pasó varón ni habitó en ella hombre alguno?”
7 A nd I brought you into a rich land to eat its fruit and its good things. But you came and made My land unclean. You made the land I gave you sinful and hated.
Os introduje en tierra de abundancia, para que comierais su fruto y sus bienes; pero entrasteis y contaminasteis mi tierra, e hicisteis abominable mi heredad.
8 T he religious leaders did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’ And those who worked with the Law did not know Me. The rulers sinned against Me. And the men of God spoke by the false god of Baal, and went after things that did not help. The Lord Speaks against His People
Los sacerdotes no dijeron: “¿Dónde está Jehová?”, y los que tenían la Ley no me conocieron; los pastores se rebelaron contra mí, los profetas profetizaron en nombre de Baal y anduvieron tras lo que no aprovecha.
9 “ So I will still fight with you,” says the Lord. “And I will fight your children’s children.
»Por tanto, pleitearé aún con vosotros, dice Jehová. Con los hijos de vuestros hijos pleitearé.
10 G o over to the land of Cyprus and see. Or send men to Kedar to watch with care. And see if there has been such a thing as this!
Pasad, pues, a las costas de Quitim y mirad; enviad a Cedar y considerad cuidadosamente. Ved si se ha hecho cosa semejante a ésta.
11 H as a nation changed its gods, even when they are not gods? But My people have changed their greatness for that which does not help them.
¿Acaso alguna nación ha cambiado sus dioses, aunque estos no son dioses? Sin embargo, mi pueblo ha cambiado su gloria por lo que no aprovecha.
12 B e full of wonder at this, O heavens. Shake with fear and waste away,” says the Lord.
¡Espantaos, cielos, sobre esto, y horrorizaos! ¡Pasmaos en gran manera!, dice Jehová.
13 “ For My people have done two sinful things: They have turned away from Me, the well of living waters. And they have cut out of the rock wells for water for themselves. They are broken wells that cannot hold water. What Happens When Israel Is Not Faithful
»Porque dos males ha hecho mi pueblo: me dejaron a mí, fuente de agua viva, y cavaron para sí cisternas, cisternas rotas que no retienen el agua.
14 “ Is Israel a servant? Is he born as a servant? Why can he be taken away?
»¿Es Israel un siervo? ¿Es un esclavo? ¿Por qué ha venido a ser presa?
15 T he young lions have made noise against him. They have made a loud noise. And they have made his land a waste. His cities have been destroyed, and have no people.
Los cachorros del león rugieron contra él, alzaron su voz y asolaron su tierra; quemadas están sus ciudades, sin morador.
16 T he men of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head.
Aun los hijos de Menfis y de Tafnes te quebraron el cráneo.
17 H ave you not brought this upon yourself, by turning away from the Lord your God, when He led you in the way?
¿No te acarreó esto el haber dejado a Jehová, tu Dios, cuando te conducía por el camino?
18 N ow why are you going to Egypt to drink water from the Nile? Or why are you going to Assyria to drink water from the Euphrates?
Ahora, pues, ¿qué tienes tú en el camino de Egipto para que bebas agua del Nilo? ¿Y qué tienes tú en el camino de Asiria para que bebas agua del Éufrates?
19 Y our own sin will punish you. Your turning away from the Lord will punish you. So know and see that it is sinful and bitter for you to leave the Lord your God. You have no fear of Me,” says the Lord God of All. Israel Turns Its Back on God
Tu maldad te castigará y tus rebeldías te condenarán; reconoce, pues, y ve cuán malo y amargo es el haber dejado tú a Jehová, tu Dios, y no tener temor de mí, dice el Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos.
20 “ Long ago I broke the load from your neck and tore off your chains. But you said, ‘I will not serve!’ For on every high hill and under every green tree you have lain down as a woman who sells the use of her body.
»Porque desde hace mucho tiempo rompiste tu yugo y tus ataduras, y dijiste: “No serviré.” Con todo eso, sobre todo collado alto y debajo de todo árbol frondoso te acostabas como una prostituta.
21 Y et I planted you as a vine of much worth, in every way a true seed. How then have you turned away from Me and become a wild vine?
Te planté de vid escogida, toda ella de buena simiente, ¿cómo, pues, te me has vuelto sarmiento de vid extraña?
22 E ven when you wash yourself with much strong soap, the mark of your sin is still before Me,” says the Lord God.
Aunque te laves con lejía y amontones jabón sobre ti, la mancha de tu pecado permanecerá aún delante de mí, dice Jehová, el Señor.
23 “ How can you say, ‘I am clean. I have not gone after the false gods of Baal’? Look at what you did in the valley! Know what you have done! You are like a wild young camel wanting to mate.
¿Cómo puedes decir: “No soy impura, nunca anduve tras los baales”? Mira tu proceder en el valle, conoce lo que has hecho, dromedaria ligera que corre de un lado a otro,
24 Y ou are a wild donkey used to the desert, that smells the wind in her desire. In the time of her mating who can turn her away? All who look for her will not become tired. In her month of mating they will find her.
asna montés acostumbrada al desierto, que en su ardor olfatea el viento. De su lujuria, ¿quién la detendrá? Ninguno que la busque se fatigará, porque en el tiempo de su celo la hallará.
25 D o not run until your shoes wear out or until your mouth is dry. But you said, ‘It is of no use, for I love strange gods, and I will go after them.’ Israel Should Be Punished
»Guarda tus pies de andar descalzos y tu garganta de la sed. Mas dijiste: “No hay remedio en ninguna manera, porque a extraños he amado y tras ellos he de ir.”
26 “ As a robber is put to shame when he is caught, so the family of Israel is put to shame: they, their kings, their rulers, their religious leaders, and their men of God.
»Como se avergüenza el ladrón cuando es descubierto, así se avergonzará la casa de Israel, ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas,
27 T hey say to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ and to a stone, ‘You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Rise up and save us.’
que dicen a un leño: “Mi padre eres tú”, y a una piedra: “Tú me has engendrado.” Me volvieron la espalda y no el rostro, pero en el tiempo de su calamidad dicen: “¡Levántate y líbranos!”
28 B ut where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them come if they can save you when you are in trouble. For you have as many gods as cities, O Judah.
¿Y dónde están tus dioses que hiciste para ti? ¡Levántense ellos, a ver si pueden librarte en el tiempo de tu aflicción!, porque según el número de tus ciudades, Judá, han sido tus dioses.
29 “ Why do you complain against Me? You have all sinned against Me,” says the Lord.
»¿Por qué pleiteas conmigo? Todos vosotros os rebelasteis contra mí, dice Jehová.
30 “ I have punished your children for nothing, for they would not learn from it. Your sword has destroyed your men of God like a destroying lion.
En vano he azotado a vuestros hijos: no han admitido la corrección. Vuestra espada devoró a vuestros profetas como león destrozador.
31 O people of this day, listen to the Word of the Lord. Have I been a desert to Israel, or a land of much darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to go, and we will come to You no more’?
¡Oh generación!, atended vosotros a la palabra de Jehová. ¿He sido yo un desierto para Israel o una tierra de tinieblas? ¿Por qué ha dicho mi pueblo: “Somos libres; nunca más vendremos a ti”?
32 C an a young woman forget the beautiful objects she wears? Can a bride forget her clothing? Yet My people have forgotten Me too many days to number.
¿Se olvida la virgen de su atavío o la desposada de sus galas? Pero mi pueblo se ha olvidado de mí por innumerables días.
33 H ow you dress yourself and go after lovers! You have taught your ways even to the sinful women.
»¡Cómo adornas tu camino para buscar amor! ¡Cómo aprendiste los caminos de maldad!
34 O n your clothing is found the blood of the poor who could not be blamed. You did not find them breaking in. But even with all these things,
Aun en tus faldas se halló la sangre de los pobres, de los inocentes. No los sorprendiste en ningún delito; sin embargo, en todas estas cosas dices:
35 y ou say, ‘I am not guilty. For sure He has turned His anger away from me.’ See, I will punish you because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’
“Soy inocente, de cierto su ira se apartó de mí.” Yo entraré en juicio contigo, porque dijiste: “No he pecado.”
36 W hy do you go around so much changing your way? You will be put to shame by Egypt as you were put to shame by Assyria.
¿Por qué eres tan ligera para cambiar tus caminos? También serás avergonzada por Egipto, como fuiste avergonzada por Asiria.
37 F rom Egypt also you will go out with your hands on your head. For the Lord has turned against those in whom you trust, and as you are with them, it will not go well for you.”
También de allí saldrás con tus manos sobre la cabeza, porque Jehová desechó a aquellos en quienes tú confiabas, y no prosperarás con ellos.
