1 N ow Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. So Jehu wrote letters. He sent them to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, to the leaders, and to those who took care of Ahab’s children. He said,

Acab tenía en Samaria setenta hijos, así que Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a Samaria a los principales de Jezreel, a los ancianos y a los tutores de los hijos de Acab, diciendo:

2 “ Now your owner’s sons are with you. And you have war-wagons, and horses, and a strong city, and things to fight with. When this letter comes to you,

«Inmediatamente que lleguen estas cartas a vosotros, como tenéis a los hijos de vuestro señor, y también tenéis carros y gente de a caballo, la ciudad fortificada y las armas,

3 c hoose the best of your owner’s sons. Put him on his father’s throne. And fight for your owner’s house.”

escoged al mejor y al más recto de los hijos de vuestro señor, ponedlo en el trono de su padre y pelead por la casa de vuestro señor.»

4 B ut they were filled with fear, and said, “See, the two kings could not stand in front of him. How can we stand?”

Pero ellos tuvieron gran temor y dijeron: «Si dos reyes no pudieron resistirle, ¿cómo le resistiremos nosotros?»

5 S o the head man of the house, the head man of the city, the leaders, and those who took care of the children, sent word to Jehu. They said, “We are your servants. We will do all that you say. We will not make any man king. Do what is good in your eyes.”

Entonces el mayordomo, el gobernador de la ciudad, los ancianos y los tutores enviaron a decir a Jehú: «Siervos tuyos somos y haremos todo lo que nos mandes. No elegiremos como rey a ninguno, haz lo que bien te parezca.»

6 T hen Jehu wrote a letter to them a second time. He said, “If you are on my side and will obey me, bring the heads of your owner’s sons to me. Meet me in Jezreel about this time tomorrow.” Now the king’s seventy sons were with the important men of the city who were taking care of them.

Les escribió por segunda vez diciendo: «Si estáis de mi parte y queréis obedecerme, tomad las cabezas de los hijos varones de vuestro señor y venid a verme a Jezreel mañana a esta hora.» Los setenta hijos varones del rey estaban con los principales de la ciudad, que los criaban.

7 W hen the letter came to them, they took the king’s seventy sons and killed them. They put their heads in baskets, and sent them to Jehu at Jezreel.

Cuando recibieron las cartas, tomaron a los hijos del rey y degollaron a los setenta varones; pusieron sus cabezas en canastas y se las enviaron a Jezreel.

8 T he men who had been sent returned and told Jehu, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” And he said, “Put them one upon the other in two places at the gate until morning.”

Y llegó un mensajero a darle la noticia diciendo: —Han traído las cabezas de los hijos del rey. Él le respondió: —Ponedlas en dos montones a la entrada de la puerta, hasta la mañana.

9 I n the morning Jehu went out and stood, and said to all the people, “You are without guilt. See, I made plans against my owner and killed him. But who killed all these?

A la mañana siguiente salió Jehú y, puesto en pie, dijo a todo el pueblo: «Vosotros sois inocentes. Fui yo quien conspiró contra mi señor y le dio muerte; pero, ¿quién ha dado muerte a todos estos?

10 K now now that everything the Lord spoke about the family of Ahab will come true. For the Lord has done what He said through his servant Elijah.”

Sabed ahora que de la palabra que Jehová habló sobre la casa de Acab nada caerá en tierra, y que Jehová ha cumplido lo que dijo por medio de su siervo Elías.»

11 S o Jehu killed all who were left of the family of Ahab in Jezreel. He killed all of Ahab’s important men, his friends, and his religious leaders. Not one person of Ahab was left alive. Ahaziah’s Forty-Two Brothers Are Killed

Mató entonces Jehú a todos los que habían quedado de la casa de Acab en Jezreel, a todos sus príncipes, a todos sus familiares y a sus sacerdotes, hasta que no quedó ninguno.

12 T hen Jehu left and went to Samaria. On the way, while he was at Beth-eked of the shepherds,

Luego se levantó de allí para ir a Samaria, y en el camino llegó a una casa de esquileo, de los pastores.

13 J ehu met the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah. He asked them, “Who are you?” And they answered, “We are the brothers of Ahaziah. We have come down to visit the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother.”

Halló allí a los hermanos de Ocozías, rey de Judá, y les preguntó: —¿Quiénes sois vosotros? Ellos respondieron: —Somos hermanos de Ocozías y hemos venido a saludar a los hijos del rey y a los hijos de la reina.

14 J ehu said, “Take them alive.” So his men took them alive, and killed them at the hole of Beth-eked, forty-two men. He left none of them alive. The Rest of Ahab’s Family Are Killed

Entonces él dijo: «Apresadlos vivos.» Después que los tomaron vivos, los degollaron junto al pozo de la casa de esquileo. Eran cuarenta y dos varones, y no quedó ninguno de ellos.

15 W hen Jehu left there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. Jehu said to him, “Is your heart right with my heart as mine is with yours?” And Jehonadab answered, “It is.” Jehu said, “If it is, give me your hand.” So Jehonadab gave him his hand, and Jehu took him up into the war-wagon with him.

Cuando partió de allí, se encontró con Jonadab hijo de Recab. Después que lo hubo saludado, le dijo: —¿Es tan recto tu corazón como el mío lo es con el tuyo? —Lo es —respondió Jonadab. —Puesto que lo es, dame la mano. Jonadab le dio la mano. Luego lo hizo subir consigo en el carro

16 T hen Jehu said, “Come with me and see how glad I am to work for the Lord.” And he had him go in his war-wagon.

y le dijo: —Ven conmigo y verás mi celo por Jehová. Lo llevó, pues, en su carro.

17 W hen he came to Samaria, he killed all of Ahab’s people who were left in Samaria. He destroyed them, as the word of the Lord was spoken to Elijah. The Worshipers of Baal Are Killed

Luego que Jehú llegó a Samaria, mató a todos los descendientes de Acab que allí habían quedado, hasta exterminarlos, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había anunciado por medio de Elías. Jehú extermina el culto de Baal

18 T hen Jehu gathered all the people and said to them, “Ahab worshiped Baal a little. Jehu will worship him much.

Después reunió Jehú a todo el pueblo y les dijo: «Acab sirvió poco a Baal, pero Jehú lo servirá mucho.

19 N ow call all the men who speak for Baal, all his worshipers and all his religious leaders. Let no one be missing. For I have a big gift for Baal. Whoever is missing will not live.” But Jehu did this to fool them, so that he might destroy the worshipers of Baal.

Llamadme, pues, a todos los profetas de Baal, a todos sus siervos y a todos sus sacerdotes, sin que falte ninguno, porque tengo un gran sacrificio que hacer a Baal y cualquiera que falte morirá.» Esto hacía Jehú con astucia, para exterminar a los que honraban a Baal.

20 H e said, “Set apart a special meeting for Baal.” And they made the news known.

Luego dijo Jehú: «Santificad un día solemne a Baal.» Y ellos lo convocaron.

21 T hen Jehu sent for all the worshipers of Baal in Israel. Every one of them came. When they went into the house of Baal, the house was filled from one end to the other.

Entonces envió Jehú mensajeros por todo Israel, y vinieron todos los adoradores de Baal, de tal manera que no hubo ninguno que no viniera. Entraron en el templo de Baal, y el templo de Baal se llenó de extremo a extremo.

22 J ehu said to the one who took care of the clothes, “Bring out clothing for all the worshipers of Baal.” So he brought out clothing for them.

Dijo entonces al encargado de las vestiduras: «Saca las vestiduras para todos los adoradores de Baal.» Él les sacó las vestiduras.

23 J ehu went into the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab. And he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Look and see that there are no servants of the Lord here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”

Y entró Jehú con Jonadab hijo de Recab en el templo de Baal, y dijo a los adoradores de Baal: «Mirad y ved que no haya aquí entre vosotros alguno de los adoradores de Jehová, sino sólo los adoradores de Baal.»

24 T hen they went in to kill animals on the altar and give burnt gifts. Now Jehu had left eighty of his men outside. He had told them, “The one who lets anyone get away, will pay for it with his life.”

Cuando ellos entraron para ofrecer sacrificios y holocaustos, Jehú puso fuera a ochenta hombres y les advirtió: «Cualquiera que deje vivo a alguno de los hombres que yo he puesto en vuestras manos, lo pagará con su vida.»

25 A s soon as he had finished giving the burnt gift, Jehu said to the soldiers and the leaders, “Go in and kill them. Let no one come out.” And they killed them with the sword. Then the soldiers and leaders threw the bodies out, and went into the inside room of the house of Baal.

Después que ellos acabaron de ofrecer el holocausto, Jehú dijo a los de su guardia y a los capitanes: «Entrad y matadlos; que no escape ninguno.» Los de la guardia y los capitanes los mataron a espada y los dejaron tendidos. Luego fueron hasta el lugar santo del templo de Baal,

26 T hey brought out the objects of the house of Baal, and burned them.

sacaron las estatuas del templo de Baal y las quemaron.

27 T hey destroyed the objects of Baal and destroyed the house of Baal. They made it a place for body waste to this day.

Quebraron la estatua de Baal, derribaron el templo de Baal y lo convirtieron en letrinas hasta hoy.

28 S o Jehu got rid of Baal from Israel.

Así Jehú exterminó a Baal de Israel.

29 B ut Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin. He kept the gold calves at Bethel and Dan.

Con todo eso, Jehú no se apartó de los pecados con que Jeroboam hijo de Nabat hizo pecar a Israel, y dejó en pie los becerros de oro que estaban en Bet-el y en Dan.

30 T he Lord said to Jehu, “You have done well what is right in My eyes. You have done to the family of Ahab all that was in My heart. So your sons, even your great great grandson, will sit on the throne of Israel.”

Y Jehová dijo a Jehú: «Por cuanto has obrado bien haciendo lo recto delante de mis ojos e hiciste a la casa de Acab conforme a todo lo que estaba en mi corazón, tus hijos se sentarán sobre el trono de Israel hasta la cuarta generación.»

31 B ut Jehu was not careful to walk in the Law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel sin. The Death of Jehu

Pero Jehú no se cuidó de andar en la ley de Jehová, Dios de Israel, con todo su corazón, ni se apartó de los pecados con que Jeroboam había hecho pecar a Israel.

32 I n those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel. Hazael won over them in battle through the land of Israel.

En aquellos días comenzó Jehová a cercenar el territorio de Israel. Hazael los derrotó en todas las fronteras,

33 H e took the land east of the Jordan, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassites, from Aroer, by the valley of the Arnon. He took Gilead and Bashan.

desde el oriente del Jordán, por toda la tierra de Galaad, de Gad, de Rubén y de Manasés, desde Aroer, que está junto al arroyo Arnón, hasta Galaad y Basán.

34 N ow the rest of the acts of Jehu, all he did and all his strength, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Los demás hechos de Jehú, todo lo que hizo y toda su valentía, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

35 T hen Jehu died and they buried him in Samaria. And his son Jehoahaz became king in his place.

Durmió Jehú con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaria. En su lugar reinó Joacaz, su hijo.

36 J ehu ruled over Israel in Samaria for twenty-eight years.

El tiempo que reinó Jehú sobre Israel en Samaria fue de veintiocho años.
