1 W hen David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had come to fight in the Negev and Ziklag. They had destroyed Ziklag, and burned it with fire.

Cuando David y sus hombres llegaron al tercer día a Siclag, los de Amalec habían invadido el Neguev y Siclag, habían asolado a Siclag y le habían prendido fuego.

2 T hey took the women and all who were in it, without killing anyone. They carried them out and went on their way.

Se habían llevado cautivas a las mujeres y a todos los que estaban allí, del menor hasta el mayor, pero a nadie habían dado muerte, sino que se los llevaron y siguieron su camino.

3 D avid and his men came to the city and saw that it was burned. Their wives and sons and daughters had been taken away.

Llegó, pues, David con los suyos a la ciudad, y se encontró que estaba quemada, y que sus mujeres, sus hijos e hijas, habían sido llevados cautivos.

4 T hen David and the people with him cried out in a loud voice until they had no more strength to cry.

Entonces David y la gente que lo acompañaba lloraron a voz en cuello, hasta que les faltaron las fuerzas para llorar.

5 D avid’s two wives had been taken away, Ahinoam of Jezreel, and Abigail who had been the wife of Nabal of Carmel.

Las dos mujeres de David, Ahinoam jezreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel, también habían sido llevadas cautivas.

6 A nd David was very troubled because the people talked about killing him with stones. For all the people were very angry in their sorrow for their sons and daughters. But David got his strength from the Lord his God.

David se angustió mucho, porque el pueblo hablaba de apedrearlo, pues el alma de todo el pueblo estaba llena de amargura, cada uno por sus hijos y por sus hijas. Pero David halló fortaleza en Jehová, su Dios,

7 D avid said to Abiathar the religious leader, son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the linen vest.” So Abiathar brought the linen vest to David.

y dijo al sacerdote Abiatar hijo de Ahimelec: «Te ruego que me acerques el efod». Abiatar acercó el efod a David,

8 T hen David asked the Lord, “Should I go after this army? Should I meet them in battle?” The Lord said to him, “Go after them, for you will catch them for sure. And you will be sure to save all the people.”

y David consultó a Jehová diciendo: —¿Perseguiré a esta banda de salteadores? ¿Los podré alcanzar? Él le dijo: —Síguelos, porque ciertamente los alcanzarás, y de cierto librarás a los cautivos.

9 S o David and the 600 men who were with him went out and came to the river of Besor. There those stayed who were left behind.

Partió, pues, David, junto a los seiscientos hombres que lo acompañaron, y llegaron hasta el torrente del Besor, donde se quedaron algunos.

10 B ut David kept going after them, with 400 men. For 200 were too tired to cross the river of Besor and stayed behind.

David siguió adelante con cuatrocientos hombres; pues se quedaron atrás doscientos que, cansados, no pudieron pasar el torrente del Besor.

11 T hey found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David. They gave him bread and he ate, and he was given water to drink.

Hallaron en el campo a un egipcio, al cual trajeron ante David, le dieron pan y comió, y le dieron a beber agua.

12 T hey gave him a piece of a fig loaf and two vines of dried grapes. When he had eaten, his spirit returned to him. For he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.

También le dieron un pedazo de masa de higos secos y dos racimos de pasas. Luego que comió, se sintió reanimado, pues no había comido pan ni bebido agua durante tres días y tres noches.

13 D avid said to him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” And he answered, “I am a young man of Egypt, a servant of an Amalekite. My owner left me behind when I became sick three days ago.

Entonces le preguntó David: —¿A quién perteneces, y de dónde eres? El joven egipcio respondió: —Soy siervo de un amalecita, y mi amo me abandonó hace tres días porque estaba enfermo.

14 W e had gone to fight in the Negev of the Cherethites, and in the land of Judah, and in the Negev of Caleb. We burned Ziklag with fire.”

Hicimos una incursión a la parte del Neguev que pertenece a los cereteos, al de Judá, y al Neguev de Caleb. También incendiamos Siclag.

15 T hen David said to him, “Will you take me down to his army?” And he said, “Promise me by God that you will not kill me or give me to my owner, and I will bring you down to this army.”

—¿Me llevarás tú adonde está esa tropa? —le preguntó David. —Júrame por Dios que no me matarás, ni me entregarás en manos de mi amo, y te llevaré adonde está esa gente —dijo él.

16 W hen he had taken David down, he saw the soldiers spread over all the land. They were eating and drinking and dancing because of all the good things they had taken from the land of the Philistines and the land of Judah.

Lo llevó, pues; y los encontraron desparramados sobre toda aquella tierra, comiendo, bebiendo y haciendo fiesta, por todo aquel gran botín que habían tomado de la tierra de los filisteos y de la tierra de Judá.

17 A nd David killed them from the evening until the evening of the next day. None of them got away, except 400 young men who ran away on camels.

Y David los batió desde aquella mañana hasta la tarde del día siguiente. Ninguno de ellos escapó, salvo cuatrocientos jóvenes que montaron sobre los camellos y huyeron.

18 D avid took back all that the Amalekites had taken, and saved his two wives.

Rescató David todo lo que los amalecitas habían tomado, y libró asimismo a sus dos mujeres.

19 N othing was missing, small or large, sons or daughters, food or anything that had been taken. David returned with all of it.

No les faltó nadie, ni chico ni grande, así de hijos como de hijas, ni nada del robo, de todas las cosas que les habían tomado; todo lo recuperó David.

20 A nd he took all the sheep and cattle. The people drove those animals in front of him, and said, “This is what belongs to David.”

Tomó también David todas las ovejas y el ganado mayor. Los que iban delante conduciendo aquel tropel decían: «Éste es el botín de David.»

21 D avid came to the 200 men who had been too tired to follow him and had been left at the river of Besor. They went out to meet David and the people who were with him. David came near the people and said hello to them.

Llegó David a donde estaban los doscientos hombres que, muy cansados para seguirlo, se habían quedado en el torrente del Besor; y ellos salieron a recibir a David y al pueblo que con él estaba. Cuando David llegó, saludó a la gente en paz.

22 T hen all the sinful men of no worth who had gone with David said, “They did not go with us. So we will not give them anything of what we have taken, except for each man’s wife and children. Each man may take them and go.”

Pero todos los malos y perversos que había entre los que iban con David, se pusieron a decir: «Puesto que no han ido con nosotros, no les daremos del botín que hemos recuperado; que cada uno tome a su mujer y a sus hijos y se vaya.»

23 D avid said, “You must not do so with what the Lord has given us, my brothers. He has kept us safe and has given us the army that came against us.

Pero David dijo: —No hagáis eso, hermanos míos, con lo que nos ha dado Jehová. Nos ha guardado y ha entregado en nuestras manos a los salteadores que nos atacaron.

24 W ho would listen to you about this? The share of those who stay by our things will be the same as the share of those who go to the battle. They will share alike.”

¿Quién os dará razón en este caso? Porque conforme a la parte del que desciende a la batalla, así ha de ser la parte del que se queda con el bagaje; les tocará por igual.

25 H e made it a law for Israel from that day to this.

Desde aquel día en adelante fue esto ley y norma en Israel, hasta hoy.

26 W hen David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the things he had taken in battle to the leaders of Judah, his friends. He said, “See, here is a gift for you from what was taken from those who hate the Lord.

Cuando David llegó a Siclag, envió parte del botín a los ancianos de Judá, sus amigos, diciendo: «Aquí tenéis un presente para vosotros del botín tomado a los enemigos de Jehová.»

27 I t is for those in Bethel, Ramoth of the Negev, Jattir,

Se lo envió a los de Bet-el, Ramot del Neguev, Jatir,

28 A roer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa,

Aroer, Sifmot, Estemoa,

29 a nd Racal. It is for those in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, the cities of the Kenites,

Racal, a las ciudades de Jerameel, a las ciudades del ceneo,

30 H ormah, Borashan, Athach,

a los de Horma, Corasán, Atac,

31 H ebron, and all the places where David and his men have gone many times.”

Hebrón, y a todos los lugares donde David había estado con sus hombres.
