1 T hen it happened when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negev and on Ziklag, and had overthrown Ziklag and burned it with fire;

Cuando David y sus hombres llegaron al tercer día a Siclag, los de Amalec habían invadido el Neguev y Siclag, habían asolado a Siclag y le habían prendido fuego.

2 a nd they took captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great, without killing anyone, and carried them off and went their way.

Se habían llevado cautivas a las mujeres y a todos los que estaban allí, del menor hasta el mayor, pero a nadie habían dado muerte, sino que se los llevaron y siguieron su camino.

3 W hen David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire, and their wives and their sons and their daughters had been taken captive.

Llegó, pues, David con los suyos a la ciudad, y se encontró que estaba quemada, y que sus mujeres, sus hijos e hijas, habían sido llevados cautivos.

4 T hen David and the people who were with him lifted their voices and wept until there was no strength in them to weep.

Entonces David y la gente que lo acompañaba lloraron a voz en cuello, hasta que les faltaron las fuerzas para llorar.

5 N ow David’s two wives had been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

Las dos mujeres de David, Ahinoam jezreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel, también habían sido llevadas cautivas.

6 M oreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

David se angustió mucho, porque el pueblo hablaba de apedrearlo, pues el alma de todo el pueblo estaba llena de amargura, cada uno por sus hijos y por sus hijas. Pero David halló fortaleza en Jehová, su Dios,

7 T hen David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

y dijo al sacerdote Abiatar hijo de Ahimelec: «Te ruego que me acerques el efod». Abiatar acercó el efod a David,

8 D avid inquired of the Lord, saying, “ Shall I pursue this band? Shall I overtake them?” And He said to him, “Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and you will surely rescue all.”

y David consultó a Jehová diciendo: —¿Perseguiré a esta banda de salteadores? ¿Los podré alcanzar? Él le dijo: —Síguelos, porque ciertamente los alcanzarás, y de cierto librarás a los cautivos.

9 S o David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those left behind remained.

Partió, pues, David, junto a los seiscientos hombres que lo acompañaron, y llegaron hasta el torrente del Besor, donde se quedaron algunos.

10 B ut David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor remained behind.

David siguió adelante con cuatrocientos hombres; pues se quedaron atrás doscientos que, cansados, no pudieron pasar el torrente del Besor.

11 N ow they found an Egyptian in the field and brought him to David, and gave him bread and he ate, and they provided him water to drink.

Hallaron en el campo a un egipcio, al cual trajeron ante David, le dieron pan y comió, y le dieron a beber agua.

12 T hey gave him a piece of fig cake and two clusters of raisins, and he ate; then his spirit revived. For he had not eaten bread or drunk water for three days and three nights.

También le dieron un pedazo de masa de higos secos y dos racimos de pasas. Luego que comió, se sintió reanimado, pues no había comido pan ni bebido agua durante tres días y tres noches.

13 D avid said to him, “To whom do you belong? And where are you from?” And he said, “I am a young man of Egypt, a servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind when I fell sick three days ago.

Entonces le preguntó David: —¿A quién perteneces, y de dónde eres? El joven egipcio respondió: —Soy siervo de un amalecita, y mi amo me abandonó hace tres días porque estaba enfermo.

14 W e made a raid on the Negev of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the Negev of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

Hicimos una incursión a la parte del Neguev que pertenece a los cereteos, al de Judá, y al Neguev de Caleb. También incendiamos Siclag.

15 T hen David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this band?” And he said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this band.”

—¿Me llevarás tú adonde está esa tropa? —le preguntó David. —Júrame por Dios que no me matarás, ni me entregarás en manos de mi amo, y te llevaré adonde está esa gente —dijo él.

16 W hen he had brought him down, behold, they were spread over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing because of all the great spoil that they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

Lo llevó, pues; y los encontraron desparramados sobre toda aquella tierra, comiendo, bebiendo y haciendo fiesta, por todo aquel gran botín que habían tomado de la tierra de los filisteos y de la tierra de Judá.

17 D avid slaughtered them from the twilight until the evening of the next day; and not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.

Y David los batió desde aquella mañana hasta la tarde del día siguiente. Ninguno de ellos escapó, salvo cuatrocientos jóvenes que montaron sobre los camellos y huyeron.

18 S o David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and rescued his two wives.

Rescató David todo lo que los amalecitas habían tomado, y libró asimismo a sus dos mujeres.

19 B ut nothing of theirs was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that they had taken for themselves; David brought it all back.

No les faltó nadie, ni chico ni grande, así de hijos como de hijas, ni nada del robo, de todas las cosas que les habían tomado; todo lo recuperó David.

20 S o David had captured all the sheep and the cattle which the people drove ahead of the other livestock, and they said, “ This is David’s spoil.” The Spoils Are Divided

Tomó también David todas las ovejas y el ganado mayor. Los que iban delante conduciendo aquel tropel decían: «Éste es el botín de David.»

21 W hen David came to the two hundred men who were too exhausted to follow David, who had also been left at the brook Besor, and they went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him, then David approached the people and greeted them.

Llegó David a donde estaban los doscientos hombres que, muy cansados para seguirlo, se habían quedado en el torrente del Besor; y ellos salieron a recibir a David y al pueblo que con él estaba. Cuando David llegó, saludó a la gente en paz.

22 T hen all the wicked and worthless men among those who went with David said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away and depart.”

Pero todos los malos y perversos que había entre los que iban con David, se pusieron a decir: «Puesto que no han ido con nosotros, no les daremos del botín que hemos recuperado; que cada uno tome a su mujer y a sus hijos y se vaya.»

23 T hen David said, “You must not do so, my brothers, with what the Lord has given us, who has kept us and delivered into our hand the band that came against us.

Pero David dijo: —No hagáis eso, hermanos míos, con lo que nos ha dado Jehová. Nos ha guardado y ha entregado en nuestras manos a los salteadores que nos atacaron.

24 A nd who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage; they shall share alike.”

¿Quién os dará razón en este caso? Porque conforme a la parte del que desciende a la batalla, así ha de ser la parte del que se queda con el bagaje; les tocará por igual.

25 S o it has been from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

Desde aquel día en adelante fue esto ley y norma en Israel, hasta hoy.

26 N ow when David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, “Behold, a gift for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord:

Cuando David llegó a Siclag, envió parte del botín a los ancianos de Judá, sus amigos, diciendo: «Aquí tenéis un presente para vosotros del botín tomado a los enemigos de Jehová.»

27 t o those who were in Bethel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the Negev, and to those who were in Jattir,

Se lo envió a los de Bet-el, Ramot del Neguev, Jatir,

28 a nd to those who were in Aroer, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa,

Aroer, Sifmot, Estemoa,

29 a nd to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

Racal, a las ciudades de Jerameel, a las ciudades del ceneo,

30 a nd to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Bor-ashan, and to those who were in Athach,

a los de Horma, Corasán, Atac,

31 a nd to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were accustomed to go.”

Hebrón, y a todos los lugares donde David había estado con sus hombres.
