13 S omeone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.”

15 T hen He said to them, “ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

17 A nd he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’

18 T hen he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

19 A nd I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’

20 B ut God said to him, ‘ You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’

21 S o is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

22 A nd He said to His disciples, “ For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on.

23 F or life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.

24 C onsider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!

25 A nd which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span?

¿Y quién de vosotros podrá, con angustiarse, añadir a su estatura un codo?

26 I f then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?

Pues si no podéis ni aun lo que es menos, ¿por qué os angustiáis por lo demás?

27 C onsider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.

»Considerad los lirios, cómo crecen: no trabajan ni hilan, pero os digo que ni aun Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos.

28 B ut if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!

Y si así viste Dios la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es echada al horno, ¿cuánto más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?

29 A nd do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying.

Vosotros, pues, no os preocupéis por lo que habéis de comer ni por lo que habéis de beber, ni estéis en ansiosa inquietud,

30 F or all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.

porque todas estas cosas buscan las gentes del mundo, pero vuestro Padre sabe que tenéis necesidad de ellas.

31 B ut seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

Buscad, más bien, el reino de Dios, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas. Tesoro en el cielo

32 D o not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

»No temáis, manada pequeña, porque a vuestro Padre le ha placido daros el Reino.

33 “ Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.

34 F or where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Be in Readiness

37 B lessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.

Bienaventurados aquellos siervos a los cuales su señor, cuando venga, halle velando; de cierto os digo que se ceñirá y hará que se sienten a la mesa y vendrá a servirles.

38 W hether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

Y aunque venga a la segunda vigilia o a la tercera vigilia, si los halla velando, bienaventurados son aquellos siervos.

39 “ But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

Pero sabed esto, que si supiera el padre de familia a qué hora el ladrón había de llegar, velaría ciertamente y no lo dejaría entrar en su casa.

40 Y ou too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

Vosotros, pues, también, estad preparados, porque a la hora que no penséis el Hijo del hombre vendrá.» El siervo infiel

41 P eter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?”

Entonces Pedro le dijo: —Señor, ¿dices esta parábola a nosotros o también a todos?

42 A nd the Lord said, “ Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?

Dijo el Señor: —¿Quién es el mayordomo fiel y prudente al cual su señor pondrá sobre su casa para que a tiempo les dé su ración?

43 B lessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.

Bienaventurado aquel siervo al cual, cuando su señor venga, lo halle haciendo así.

44 T ruly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

En verdad os digo que lo pondrá sobre todos sus bienes.

45 B ut if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk;

Pero si aquel siervo dice en su corazón: “Mi señor tarda en venir”, y comienza a golpear a los criados y a las criadas, y a comer y a beber y a embriagarse,

46 t he master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

vendrá el señor de aquel siervo en día que éste no espera y a la hora que no sabe, y lo castigará duramente y lo pondrá con los infieles.

47 A nd that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes,

»Aquel siervo que, conociendo la voluntad de su señor, no se preparó ni hizo conforme a su voluntad, recibirá muchos azotes.

48 b ut the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more. Christ Divides Men

Pero el que sin conocerla hizo cosas dignas de azotes, será azotado poco, porque a todo aquel a quien se haya dado mucho, mucho se le demandará, y al que mucho se le haya confiado, más se le pedirá. Jesús, causa de división

49 “ I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!

»Fuego vine a echar en la tierra. ¿Y qué quiero, si ya se ha encendido?

50 B ut I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

De un bautismo tengo que ser bautizado. ¡Y cómo me angustio hasta que se cumpla!

51 D o you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;

52 f or from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.

estará dividido el padre contra el hijo y el hijo contra el padre; la madre contra la hija y la hija contra la madre; la suegra contra su nuera y la nuera contra su suegra. ¿Cómo no reconocéis este tiempo?

54 A nd He was also saying to the crowds, “ When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out.

Decía también a la multitud: «Cuando veis la nube que sale del poniente, luego decís: “Agua viene”, y así sucede.

55 A nd when you see a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way.

Y cuando sopla el viento del sur, decís: “Hará calor”, y lo hace.

56 Y ou hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?

¡Hipócritas! Sabéis distinguir el aspecto del cielo y de la tierra, ¿y cómo no distinguís este tiempo? Arréglate con tu adversario

57 “ And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right?

»¿Por qué no juzgáis por vosotros mismos lo que es justo?

58 F or while you are going with your opponent to appear before the magistrate, on your way there make an effort to settle with him, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.

Cuando vayas al magistrado con tu adversario, procura arreglarte con él en el camino, no sea que te arrastre al juez, y el juez te entregue al guardia, y el guardia te meta en la cárcel.

59 I say to you, you will not get out of there until you have paid the very last cent.”

Te digo que no saldrás de allí hasta que hayas pagado aun la última blanca.»
