1 T hen Samson went down to Timnah and saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines.

Descendió Sansón a Timnat y vio allí a una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos.

2 S o he came back and told his father and mother, “I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.”

Regresó entonces y lo contó a su padre y a su madre, diciendo: —He visto en Timnat una mujer de las hijas de los filisteos; os ruego que me la toméis por mujer.

3 T hen his father and his mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she looks good to me.”

Su padre y su madre le dijeron: —¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus hermanos, ni en todo nuestro pueblo, para que vayas tú a tomar mujer de los filisteos incircuncisos? Sansón respondió a su padre: —Tómame esta por mujer, porque ella me agrada.

4 H owever, his father and mother did not know that it was of the Lord, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.

Su padre y su madre no sabían que esto venía de Jehová, porque él buscaba ocasión contra los filisteos, pues en aquel tiempo los filisteos dominaban sobre Israel.

5 T hen Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came roaring toward him.

Sansón descendió con su padre y con su madre a Timnat. Cuando llegaron a las viñas de Timnat, un león joven vino rugiendo hacia él.

6 T he Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, so that he tore him as one tears a young goat though he had nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or mother what he had done.

Entonces el espíritu de Jehová vino sobre Sansón, quien despedazó al león como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en sus manos. Él no contó ni a su padre ni a su madre lo que había hecho.

7 S o he went down and talked to the woman; and she looked good to Samson.

Descendió, pues, y habló con la mujer; y ella agradó a Sansón.

8 W hen he returned later to take her, he turned aside to look at the carcass of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion.

Al volver después de algunos días para tomarla, se apartó del camino para ver el cuerpo muerto del león; y vio que en el cuerpo del león había un enjambre de abejas y un panal de miel.

9 S o he scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.

Tomándolo en sus manos, fue comiéndose la miel por el camino. Cuando alcanzó a su padre y a su madre, les dio también a ellos para que comieran, pero no les reveló que aquella miel la había tomado del cuerpo del león.

10 T hen his father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men customarily did this.

Fue, pues, su padre adonde estaba la mujer, y Sansón hizo allí un banquete, porque así solían hacer los jóvenes.

11 W hen they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him. Samson’s Riddle

Aconteció que cuando los filisteos lo vieron, tomaron treinta compañeros para que estuvieran con él.

12 T hen Samson said to them, “Let me now propound a riddle to you; if you will indeed tell it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.

A estos treinta dijo Sansón: —Yo os propondré ahora un enigma; si en los siete días del banquete me lo explicáis y descifráis, yo os daré treinta vestidos de lino y treinta vestidos de fiesta.

13 B ut if you are unable to tell me, then you shall give me thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Propound your riddle, that we may hear it.”

Pero si no me lo podéis descifrar, entonces vosotros me daréis a mí los treinta vestidos de lino y los vestidos de fiesta. Ellos respondieron: —Propón tu enigma y lo oiremos.

14 S o he said to them, “Out of the eater came something to eat, And out of the strong came something sweet.” But they could not tell the riddle in three days.

Él les dijo: —Del devorador salió comida, y del fuerte salió dulzura. Ellos no pudieron descifrar el enigma en tres días.

15 T hen it came about on the fourth day that they said to Samson’s wife, “ Entice your husband, so that he will tell us the riddle, or we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us to impoverish us? Is this not so ?”

Al séptimo día dijeron a la mujer de Sansón: «Induce a tu marido a que nos explique este enigma, para que no te quememos a ti y a la casa de tu padre. ¿Acaso nos habéis llamado aquí para despojarnos?»

16 S amson’s wife wept before him and said, “ You only hate me, and you do not love me; you have propounded a riddle to the sons of my people, and have not told it to me.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told it to my father or mother; so should I tell you?”

Lloró la mujer de Sansón en presencia de él, y dijo: —Solamente me aborreces, no me amas, pues no me explicas el enigma que propusiste a los hijos de mi pueblo. Él respondió: —Ni a mi padre ni a mi madre lo he explicado, ¿y te lo había de explicar a ti?

17 H owever she wept before him seven days while their feast lasted. And on the seventh day he told her because she pressed him so hard. She then told the riddle to the sons of her people.

Aquella mujer lloró en presencia de Sansón los siete días que duró el banquete, pero al séptimo día él se lo declaró, porque ella lo presionaba, y la mujer se lo contó a los hijos de su pueblo.

18 S o the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?” And he said to them, “If you had not plowed with my heifer, You would not have found out my riddle.”

Al séptimo día, antes que el sol se pusiera, los de la ciudad le dijeron: —¿Qué cosa es más dulce que la miel? ¿Y qué cosa es más fuerte que el león? Sansón les respondió: —Si no araseis con mi novilla, nunca habríais descubierto mi enigma.

19 T hen the Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of them and took their spoil and gave the changes of clothes to those who told the riddle. And his anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.

El espíritu de Jehová vino sobre él; descendió Sansón a Ascalón y mató a treinta hombres de ellos y, tomando sus despojos, pagó con las vestiduras a los que habían explicado el enigma. Después, encendido de enojo, regresó a la casa de su padre.

20 B ut Samson’s wife was given to his companion who had been his friend.

Su mujer fue dada a un compañero al que Sansón había tratado como amigo.
