1 A fter these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Después de esto había una fiesta de los judíos, y Jesús subió a Jerusalén.

2 N ow there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes.

Hay en Jerusalén, cerca de la Puerta de las Ovejas, un estanque, llamado en hebreo Betesda, el cual tiene cinco pórticos.

3 I n these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, '> waiting for the moving of the waters;

En estos yacía una multitud de enfermos, ciegos, cojos y paralíticos, que esperaban el movimiento del agua,

4 f or an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.]

porque un ángel descendía de tiempo en tiempo al estanque y agitaba el agua; el que primero descendía al estanque después del movimiento del agua quedaba sano de cualquier enfermedad que tuviera.

5 A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

Había allí un hombre que hacía treinta y ocho años que estaba enfermo.

6 W hen Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”

Cuando Jesús lo vio acostado y supo que llevaba ya mucho tiempo así, le dijo: —¿Quieres ser sano?

7 T he sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

El enfermo le respondió: —Señor, no tengo quien me meta en el estanque cuando se agita el agua; mientras yo voy, otro desciende antes que yo.

8 J esus said to him, “ Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”

Jesús le dijo: —Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda.

9 I mmediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

Al instante aquel hombre fue sanado, y tomó su camilla y anduvo. Era sábado aquel día.

10 S o the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.”

Entonces los judíos dijeron a aquel que había sido sanado: —Es sábado; no te es permitido cargar tu camilla.

11 B ut he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’ ”

Él les respondió: —El que me sanó, él mismo me dijo: “Toma tu camilla y anda.”

12 T hey asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’ ?”

Entonces le preguntaron: —¿Quién es el que te dijo: “Toma tu camilla y anda”?

13 B ut the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place.

Pero el que había sido sanado no sabía quién era, porque Jesús se había apartado de la gente que estaba en aquel lugar.

14 A fterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

Después lo halló Jesús en el Templo y le dijo: —Mira, has sido sanado; no peques más, para que no te suceda algo peor.

15 T he man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

El hombre se fue y contó a los judíos que Jesús era quien lo había sanado.

16 F or this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

Por esta causa los judíos perseguían a Jesús e intentaban matarlo, porque hacía estas cosas en sábado.

17 B ut He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.” Jesus’ Equality with God

Jesús les respondió: —Mi Padre hasta ahora trabaja, y yo trabajo.

18 F or this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

Por esto los judíos aun más intentaban matarlo, porque no sólo quebrantaba el sábado, sino que también decía que Dios era su propio Padre, haciéndose igual a Dios. La autoridad del Hijo

19 T herefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

Respondió entonces Jesús y les dijo: —De cierto, de cierto os digo: No puede el Hijo hacer nada por sí mismo, sino lo que ve hacer al Padre. Todo lo que el Padre hace, también lo hace el Hijo igualmente,

20 F or the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.

porque el Padre ama al Hijo y le muestra todas las cosas que él hace; y mayores obras que éstas le mostrará, de modo que vosotros os admiréis.

21 F or just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

Como el Padre levanta a los muertos y les da vida, así también el Hijo a los que quiere da vida,

22 F or not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,

porque el Padre a nadie juzga, sino que todo el juicio dio al Hijo,

23 s o that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

para que todos honren al Hijo como honran al Padre. El que no honra al Hijo no honra al Padre, que lo envió.

24 “ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Two Resurrections

»De cierto, de cierto os digo: El que oye mi palabra y cree al que me envió tiene vida eterna, y no vendrá a condenación, sino que ha pasado de muerte a vida.

25 T ruly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

De cierto, de cierto os digo: Viene la hora, y ahora es, cuando los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios, y los que la oigan vivirán.

26 F or just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

Como el Padre tiene vida en sí mismo, así también ha dado al Hijo el tener vida en sí mismo;

27 a nd He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

y, además, le dio autoridad de hacer juicio, por cuanto es el Hijo del hombre.

28 D o not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,

No os asombréis de esto, porque llegará la hora cuando todos los que están en los sepulcros oirán su voz;

29 a nd will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

y los que hicieron lo bueno saldrán a resurrección de vida; pero los que hicieron lo malo, a resurrección de condenación. Testigos de Cristo

30 “ I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

»No puedo yo hacer nada por mí mismo; según oigo, así juzgo, y mi juicio es justo, porque no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del Padre, que me envió.

31 “ If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.

Si yo doy testimonio acerca de mí mismo, mi testimonio no es verdadero.

32 T here is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true. Witness of John

Otro es el que da testimonio acerca de mí, y sé que el testimonio que da de mí es verdadero.

33 Y ou have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

Vosotros enviasteis mensajeros a Juan, y él dio testimonio de la verdad.

34 B ut the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.

Pero yo no recibo testimonio de hombre alguno; sin embargo, digo esto para que vosotros seáis salvos.

35 H e was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. Witness of Works

Él era antorcha que ardía y alumbraba, y vosotros quisisteis regocijaros por un tiempo en su luz.

36 B ut the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me. Witness of the Father

Pero yo tengo un testimonio mayor que el de Juan: las obras que el Padre me dio para que cumpliera, las mismas obras que yo hago, dan testimonio de mí, de que el Padre me ha enviado.

37 A nd the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.

También el Padre, que me envió, ha dado testimonio de mí. Nunca habéis oído su voz, ni habéis visto su aspecto,

38 Y ou do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. Witness of the Scripture

ni tenéis su palabra morando en vosotros, porque no creéis a quien él envió.

39 Y ou search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;

Escudriñad las Escrituras, porque a vosotros os parece que en ellas tenéis la vida eterna, y ellas son las que dan testimonio de mí;

40 a nd you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

y no queréis venir a mí para que tengáis vida.

41 I do not receive glory from men;

»Gloria de los hombres no recibo.

42 b ut I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.

Pero yo os conozco, que no tenéis el amor de Dios en vosotros.

43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

Yo he venido en nombre de mi Padre y no me recibís; si otro viniera en su propio nombre, a ése recibiríais.

44 H ow can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

¿Cómo podéis vosotros creer, pues recibís gloria los unos de los otros y no buscáis la gloria que viene del Dios único?

45 D o not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.

No penséis que yo voy a acusaros delante del Padre. Moisés, en quien tenéis vuestra esperanza, es quien os acusa,

46 F or if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.

porque si creyerais a Moisés, me creeríais a mí, porque de mí escribió él.

47 B ut if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

Pero si no creéis a sus escritos, ¿cómo creeréis a mis palabras?
