1 N ow the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.

Llegaron, pues, los dos ángeles a Sodoma a la caída de la tarde; y Lot estaba sentado a la puerta de Sodoma. Al verlos, Lot se levantó a recibirlos, se inclinó hacia el suelo

2 A nd he said, “Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” They said however, “No, but we shall spend the night in the square.”

y les dijo: —Ahora, mis señores, os ruego que vengáis a casa de vuestro siervo para alojaros y lavar vuestros pies. Por la mañana os levantaréis y seguiréis vuestro camino. Ellos respondieron: —No, esta noche nos quedaremos en la calle.

3 Y et he urged them strongly, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

Pero Lot porfió tanto con ellos que fueron con él y entraron en su casa. Allí les hizo banquete, coció panes sin levadura y comieron.

4 B efore they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter;

Pero, antes que se acostaran, rodearon la casa los hombres de la ciudad, los varones de Sodoma, todo el pueblo, desde el más joven hasta el más viejo.

5 a nd they called to Lot and said to him, “ Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them.”

Y llamaron a Lot, gritando: —¿Dónde están los hombres que vinieron a ti esta noche? Sácalos, para que los conozcamos.

6 B ut Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him,

Entonces Lot salió a ellos a la puerta, cerró la puerta tras sí

7 a nd said, “Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly.

y dijo: —Os ruego, hermanos míos, que no hagáis tal maldad.

8 N ow behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come under the shelter of my roof.”

Mirad, yo tengo dos hijas que no han conocido varón; os las traeré y podréis hacer con ellas lo que bien os parezca; solamente que a estos varones no les hagáis nada, ya que han venido al amparo de mi tejado.

9 B ut they said, “Stand aside.” Furthermore, they said, “This one came in as an alien, and already he is acting like a judge; now we will treat you worse than them.” So they pressed hard against Lot and came near to break the door.

Ellos respondieron: —¡Quítate de ahí! Y añadieron: —Vino este extraño para habitar entre nosotros, ¿y habrá de erigirse en juez? Ahora te trataremos peor que a ellos. Enseguida comenzaron a forcejear con Lot, y se acercaron para romper la puerta.

10 B ut the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.

Pero los huéspedes alargaron la mano, metieron a Lot en la casa con ellos y cerraron la puerta.

11 T hey struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves trying to find the doorway.

Y a los hombres que estaban a la puerta de la casa los hirieron con ceguera, desde el menor hasta el mayor, de manera que se fatigaban buscando la puerta.

12 T hen the two men said to Lot, “Whom else have you here? A son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whomever you have in the city, bring them out of the place;

Después dijeron los huéspedes a Lot: —¿Tienes aquí alguno más? Saca de este lugar a tus yernos, hijos e hijas, y todo lo que tienes en la ciudad,

13 f or we are about to destroy this place, because their outcry has become so great before the Lord that the Lord has sent us to destroy it.”

porque vamos a destruir este lugar, por cuanto el clamor contra la gente de esta ciudad ha subido de punto delante de Jehová. Por tanto, Jehová nos ha enviado a destruirla.

14 L ot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, and said, “Up, get out of this place, for the Lord will destroy the city.” But he appeared to his sons-in-law to be jesting.

Entonces salió Lot y habló a sus yernos, los que habían de tomar sus hijas, y les dijo: —¡Levantaos, salid de este lugar, porque Jehová va a destruir esta ciudad! Pero sus yernos pensaron que bromeaba.

15 W hen morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.”

Y al rayar el alba los ángeles daban prisa a Lot, diciendo: —Levántate, toma a tu mujer y a tus dos hijas que se hallan aquí, para que no perezcas en el castigo de la ciudad.

16 B ut he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the Lord was upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.

Como él se demoraba, los varones los asieron de la mano, a él, a su mujer y a sus dos hijas, según la misericordia de Jehová para con él; lo sacaron y lo pusieron fuera de la ciudad.

17 W hen they had brought them outside, one said, “ Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away.”

Cuando ya estaban fuera, le dijeron: —Escapa por tu vida; no mires atrás ni te detengas en ningún lugar de esta llanura; escapa al monte, no sea que perezcas.

18 B ut Lot said to them, “Oh no, my lords!

Pero Lot les dijo: —No, yo os ruego, señores míos.

19 N ow behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your lovingkindness, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, for the disaster will overtake me and I will die;

Vuestro siervo ha hallado gracia en vuestros ojos y habéis tenido mucha misericordia conmigo al salvarme la vida, pero no podré escapar al monte, no sea que me alcance el mal y muera.

20 n ow behold, this town is near enough to flee to, and it is small. Please, let me escape there (is it not small?) that my life may be saved.”

Cerca de aquí hay una pequeña ciudad, a la cual puedo huir. Dejadme ir allá (¿no es en verdad pequeña?) y salvaré mi vida.

21 H e said to him, “Behold, I grant you this request also, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken.

Uno de ellos le respondió: —También he escuchado tu súplica sobre esto, y no destruiré la ciudad de que has hablado.

22 H urry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the town was called Zoar.

Date prisa y escápate allá, porque nada podré hacer hasta que hayas llegado. Por eso fue llamado Zoar el nombre de la ciudad.

23 T he sun had risen over the earth when Lot came to Zoar.

El sol salía sobre la tierra cuando Lot llegó a Zoar.

24 T hen the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven,

Entonces Jehová hizo llover desde los cielos azufre y fuego sobre Sodoma y sobre Gomorra;

25 a nd He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

y destruyó las ciudades y toda aquella llanura, con todos los habitantes de aquellas ciudades y el fruto de la tierra.

26 B ut his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Entonces la mujer de Lot miró atrás, a espaldas de él, y se volvió estatua de sal.

27 N ow Abraham arose early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before the Lord;

Subió Abraham por la mañana al lugar donde había estado delante de Jehová.

28 a nd he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the valley, and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land ascended like the smoke of a furnace.

Miró hacia Sodoma y Gomorra, y hacia toda la tierra de aquella llanura, y vio que el humo subía de la tierra como el humo de un horno.

29 T hus it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived. Lot Is Debased

Así, cuando Dios destruyó las ciudades de la llanura, se acordó de Abraham, y sacó a Lot de en medio de la destrucción con que asoló las ciudades donde Lot estaba.

30 L ot went up from Zoar, and stayed in the mountains, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters.

Pero Lot subió de Zoar y habitó en el monte, junto a sus dos hijas, porque tuvo miedo de quedarse en Zoar. Él y sus dos hijas habitaron en una cueva.

31 T hen the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of the earth.

Entonces la mayor dijo a la menor: —Nuestro padre es viejo y no queda hombre en la tierra que se una a nosotras, conforme a la costumbre de toda la tierra.

32 C ome, let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him that we may preserve our family through our father.”

Ven, demos a beber vino a nuestro padre; durmamos con él, y conservaremos de nuestro padre descendencia.

33 S o they made their father drink wine that night, and the firstborn went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

Dieron a beber vino a su padre aquella noche, y entró la mayor y durmió con su padre; pero él no sintió cuándo se acostó ella ni cuándo se levantó.

34 O n the following day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father.”

Al día siguiente dijo la mayor a la menor: —Yo dormí la noche pasada con mi padre; démosle a beber vino también esta noche, y entra tú y duerme con él, para que conservemos de nuestro padre descendencia.

35 S o they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

Dieron, pues, a beber vino a su padre también aquella noche, y se levantó la menor y durmió con él; pero él no echó de ver cuándo se acostó ella ni cuándo se levantó.

36 T hus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

Las dos hijas de Lot concibieron de su padre.

37 T he firstborn bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.

La mayor dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Moab, el cual es padre de los actuales moabitas.

38 A s for the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.

La menor también dio a luz un hijo, y llamó su nombre Ben-ammi, el cual es padre de los actuales amonitas.
