1 “ Hear, O Israel! You are crossing over the Jordan today to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, great cities fortified to heaven,

»Oye, Israel: tú vas hoy a pasar el Jordán, para entrar a desposeer a naciones más numerosas y más poderosas que tú, ciudades grandes y amuralladas hasta el cielo,

2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, ‘ Who can stand before the sons of Anak?’

un pueblo grande y alto, los hijos de los anaceos, de los cuales tienes tú conocimiento, y de quienes has oído decir: “¿Quién se sostendrá delante de los hijos de Anac?”

3 K now therefore today that it is the Lord your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you.

Entiende, pues, hoy, que es Jehová, tu Dios, el que pasa delante de ti como fuego consumidor, quien los destruirá y humillará en tu presencia. Tú los echarás y los destruirás en seguida, como Jehová te ha dicho.

4 “ Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you.

»Cuando Jehová, tu Dios, los haya echado de delante de ti, no digas en tu corazón: “Por mi justicia me ha traído Jehová a poseer esta tierra”, pues por la impiedad de estas naciones Jehová las arroja de delante de ti.

5 I t is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out before you, in order to confirm the oath which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

No por tu justicia ni por la rectitud de tu corazón entras a poseer la tierra de ellos, sino por la impiedad de estas naciones Jehová, tu Dios, las arroja de delante de ti, y para confirmar la palabra que Jehová juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

6 “ Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.

Por tanto, has de saber que Jehová, tu Dios, no te da en posesión esta buena tierra por tu justicia, porque pueblo terco eres tú. La rebelión de Israel en Horeb

7 R emember, do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you left the land of Egypt until you arrived at this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.

»Acuérdate, no olvides que has provocado la ira de Jehová, tu Dios, en el desierto; desde el día en que saliste de la tierra de Egipto, hasta que entrasteis en este lugar, habéis sido rebeldes a Jehová.

8 E ven at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that He would have destroyed you.

En Horeb provocasteis a ira a Jehová, y se enojó Jehová contra vosotros para destruiros.

9 W hen I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord had made with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.

Cuando yo subí al monte para recibir las tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto que Jehová hizo con vosotros, estuve entonces en el monte cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, sin comer pan ni beber agua.

10 T he Lord gave me the two tablets of stone written by the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

Jehová me dio las dos tablas de piedra escritas por el dedo de Dios, y en ellas estaban escritas todas las palabras que os habló Jehová en el monte, de en medio del fuego, el día de la asamblea.

11 I t came about at the end of forty days and nights that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

Al cabo de los cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, Jehová me dio las dos tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto,

12 T hen the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, go down from here quickly, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made a molten image for themselves.’

y me dijo: “Levántate, desciende pronto de aquí, porque el pueblo que sacaste de Egipto se ha corrompido. Bien pronto se han apartado del camino que yo les mandé y se han hecho una imagen de fundición.”

13 T he Lord spoke further to me, saying, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed, it is a stubborn people.

»También me dijo Jehová: “He observado a este pueblo y he visto que es un pueblo terco.

14 L et Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’

Déjame que los destruya y borre su nombre de debajo del cielo, y yo te pondré sobre una nación fuerte y mucho más numerosa que ellos.”

15 “ So I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

»Yo me volví y descendí del monte, el cual ardía en llamas, con las tablas del pacto en mis dos manos.

16 A nd I saw that you had indeed sinned against the Lord your God. You had made for yourselves a molten calf; you had turned aside quickly from the way which the Lord had commanded you.

Miré y vi que habíais pecado contra Jehová, vuestro Dios: os habíais hecho un becerro de fundición, apartándoos bien pronto del camino que Jehová os había señalado.

17 I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands and smashed them before your eyes.

Entonces tomé las dos tablas, las arrojé de mis dos manos y las quebré delante de vuestros ojos.

18 I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke Him to anger.

Luego me postré delante de Jehová, y como antes hice, durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches no comí pan ni bebí agua, a causa de todo el pecado que habíais cometido haciendo el mal ante los ojos de Jehová para enojarlo.

19 F or I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the Lord was wrathful against you in order to destroy you, but the Lord listened to me that time also.

Porque temí a causa del furor y de la ira con que Jehová estaba enojado contra vosotros hasta querer destruiros. Pero Jehová me escuchó una vez más.

20 T he Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time.

Contra Aarón también se enojó mucho Jehová hasta querer destruirlo. Yo también oré por Aarón en aquel entonces.

21 I took your sinful thing, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the brook that came down from the mountain.

Luego tomé el objeto de vuestro pecado, el becerro que habíais hecho, lo quemé en el fuego y lo desmenucé, moliéndolo muy bien, hasta que quedó reducido a polvo, y eché aquel polvo en el arroyo que descendía del monte.

22 “ Again at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.

»También en Tabera, en Masah y en Kibrot-hataava provocasteis a ira a Jehová.

23 W hen the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘ Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God; you neither believed Him nor listened to His voice.

Y cuando desde Cades-barnea Jehová os mandó: “Subid y poseed la tierra que yo os he dado”, también fuisteis rebeldes al mandato de Jehová, vuestro Dios, y no le creísteis ni obedecisteis a su voz.

24 Y ou have been rebellious against the Lord from the day I knew you.

Rebeldes habéis sido a Jehová desde el día en que yo os conozco.

25 “ So I fell down before the Lord the forty days and nights, which I did because the Lord had said He would destroy you.

»Me postré, pues, delante de Jehová; cuarenta días y cuarenta noches estuve postrado, porque Jehová dijo que os había de destruir.

26 I prayed to the Lord and said, ‘O Lord God, do not destroy Your people, even Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

Y oré a Jehová diciendo: Señor Jehová, no destruyas a tu pueblo, a la heredad que has redimido con tu grandeza y que sacaste de Egipto con mano poderosa.

27 R emember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin.

Acuérdate de tus siervos Abraham, Isaac y Jacob; no mires la dureza de este pueblo, su impiedad ni su pecado,

28 O therwise the land from which You brought us may say, “ Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He had promised them and because He hated them He has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.”

no sea que digan los de la tierra de donde nos sacaste: “Por cuanto no pudo Jehová introducirlos en la tierra que les había prometido, o porque los aborrecía, los sacó para matarlos en el desierto.”

29 Y et they are Your people, even Your inheritance, whom You have brought out by Your great power and Your outstretched arm.’

Ellos son tu pueblo, la heredad que sacaste con tu gran poder y con tu brazo extendido.
