1 T hey came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

2 W hen He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him,

Cuando salió él de la barca, en seguida vino a su encuentro, de los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu impuro

3 a nd he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;

que habitaba en los sepulcros y nadie podía atarlo, ni aun con cadenas.

4 b ecause he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.

Muchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, pero las cadenas habían sido hechas pedazos por él, y desmenuzados los grillos. Nadie lo podía dominar.

5 C onstantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.

Y siempre, de día y de noche, andaba gritando en los montes y en los sepulcros, e hiriéndose con piedras.

6 S eeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;

Cuando vio, pues, a Jesús de lejos, corrió y se arrodilló ante él.

7 a nd shouting with a loud voice, he said, “ What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!”

Y clamando a gran voz, dijo: —¿Qué tienes conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Te conjuro por Dios que no me atormentes!

8 F or He had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

(Porque le decía: «Sal de este hombre, espíritu impuro.»)

9 A nd He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he said to Him, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”

Jesús le preguntó: —¿Cómo te llamas? Y respondió diciendo: —Legión me llamo, porque somos muchos.

10 A nd he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

Y le rogaba mucho que no los enviara fuera de aquella región.

11 N ow there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.

Estaba allí cerca del monte un gran hato de cerdos paciendo.

12 T he demons implored Him, saying, “Send us into the swine so that we may enter them.”

Y le rogaron todos los demonios, diciendo: —Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos.

13 J esus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

Jesús, de inmediato, les dio permiso. Y saliendo aquellos espíritus impuros, entraron en los cerdos, los cuales eran como dos mil. El hato se precipitó al mar por un despeñadero, y en el mar se ahogaron.

14 T heir herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.

Los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron y dieron aviso en la ciudad y en los campos. Y la gente salió a ver qué era aquello que había sucedido.

15 T hey came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the “ legion”; and they became frightened.

Llegaron a Jesús y vieron al que había estado atormentado por el demonio, el que había tenido la legión, sentado, vestido y en su juicio cabal; y tuvieron miedo.

16 T hose who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.

Y los que lo habían visto les contaron lo que le había acontecido al que había tenido el demonio, y lo de los cerdos.

17 A nd they began to implore Him to leave their region.

Entonces comenzaron a rogarle que se fuera de sus contornos.

18 A s He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him.

Al entrar él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que lo dejara quedarse con él.

19 A nd He did not let him, but He said to him, “ Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”

Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo: —Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas el Señor ha hecho contigo y cómo ha tenido misericordia de ti.

20 A nd he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed. Miracles and Healing

Él se fue y comenzó a publicar en Decápolis cuán grandes cosas había hecho Jesús con él; y todos se maravillaban. La hija de Jairo, y la mujer con flujo de sangre

21 W hen Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore.

Al pasar otra vez Jesús en una barca a la otra orilla, se reunió a su alrededor una gran multitud; y él estaba junto al mar.

22 O ne of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and on seeing Him, fell at His feet

Y vino un alto dignatario de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo. Al verlo, se postró a sus pies,

23 a nd implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.”

y le rogaba mucho, diciendo: —Mi hija está agonizando; ven y pon las manos sobre ella para que sea salva, y viva.

24 A nd He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.

Fue, pues, con él, y lo seguía una gran multitud, y lo apretaban.

25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,

Pero una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía de flujo de sangre,

26 a nd had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse—

y había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía y de nada le había servido, antes le iba peor,

27 a fter hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak.

cuando oyó hablar de Jesús se acercó por detrás entre la multitud y tocó su manto,

28 F or she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.”

porque decía: «Si toco tan sólo su manto, seré salva.»

29 I mmediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

Inmediatamente la fuente de su sangre se secó, y sintió en el cuerpo que estaba sana de su azote.

30 I mmediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”

Luego Jesús, conociendo en sí mismo el poder que había salido de él, volviéndose a la multitud, preguntó: —¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos?

31 A nd His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”

Sus discípulos le dijeron: —Ves que la multitud te aprieta, y preguntas: “¿Quién me ha tocado?”

32 A nd He looked around to see the woman who had done this.

Pero él miraba alrededor para ver quién lo había hecho.

33 B ut the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.

Entonces la mujer, temiendo y temblando, sabiendo lo que en ella había sido hecho, vino y se postró delante de él y le dijo toda la verdad.

34 A nd He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”

Él le dijo: —Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz y queda sana de tu enfermedad.

35 W hile He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?”

Mientras él aún hablaba, vinieron de casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, diciendo: —Tu hija ha muerto, ¿para qué molestas más al Maestro?

36 B ut Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “ Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”

Pero Jesús, luego que oyó lo que se decía, dijo al alto dignatario de la sinagoga: —No temas, cree solamente.

37 A nd He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

Y no permitió que lo siguiera nadie sino Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, hermano de Jacobo.

38 T hey came to the house of the synagogue official; and He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.

Vino a casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, y vio el alboroto y a los que lloraban y lamentaban mucho.

39 A nd entering in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.”

Entró y les dijo: —¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.

40 T hey began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was.

Y se burlaban de él. Pero él, echando fuera a todos, tomó al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con él, y entró donde estaba la niña.

41 T aking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ).

Tomó la mano de la niña y le dijo: —¡Talita cumi! (que significa: “Niña, a ti te digo, levántate”).

42 I mmediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.

Inmediatamente la niña se levantó y andaba, pues tenía doce años. Y la gente se llenó de asombro.

43 A nd He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat.

Pero él les insistió en que nadie lo supiera, y dijo que dieran de comer a la niña.
