1 I srael is a spreading vine full of fruit. The more fruit he had, the more altars he made. As his land became richer, he made his pillars for worship better.

Israel es una frondosa viña que da de sí abundante fruto. Cuanto más abundante era su fruto, más se multiplicaban los altares; cuanto mayor era la bondad de su tierra, mejor hacía sus ídolos.

3 T hen they will say, “We have no king because we do not fear the Lord. And what could a king do for us?”

Seguramente dirán ahora: «No tenemos rey porque no temimos a Jehová. Pero, ¿qué haría el rey por nosotros?»

4 T hey speak empty words and make false promises, so punishment grows like weeds of poison in a plowed field.

Ellos pronuncian palabras, juran en vano al hacer un pacto; por tanto, el juicio florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.

5 T he people of Samaria will be afraid for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people will have sorrow for it. Its religious leaders who worship false gods will cry over it in a loud voice. They will cry because its greatness has gone.

Por las becerras de Bet-avén serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria. Sí, su pueblo se lamentará a causa del becerro, lo mismo que los sacerdotes que se regocijaban de su gloria, la cual será disipada.

6 T he thing itself will be carried to Assyria and given to King Jareb. Ephraim will be put to shame, and Israel will be ashamed of its false god.

El propio becerro será llevado a Asiria como presente al gran rey. Efraín será avergonzado, e Israel se avergonzará de su consejo.

7 S amaria and its king will be lost like a piece of wood on the water.

Los castigaré cuando lo desee; los pueblos se juntarán contra ellos cuando sean castigados por su doble crimen.

11 “ Ephraim is a well-taught young cow that loves to crush the grain. But I will put a load on her beautiful neck. I will drive Ephraim. Judah must plow. And Jacob must break up the ground.

»Efraín es como una novilla domada a la que le gusta trillar. Mas yo pasaré el yugo sobre su lozana cerviz; yo unciré a Efraín, Judá tendrá que arar y Jacob quebrará sus terrones.

12 P lant what is right and good for yourselves. Gather the fruit of lasting love. Break up your ground that has not been plowed. For it is time to look for the Lord, until He comes and pours His saving power on you.

Sembrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; haced para vosotros barbecho, porque es el tiempo de buscar a Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.

13 Y ou have plowed wrong-doing and have gathered sin. You have eaten the fruit of lies. You have trusted in your own strength and in your many soldiers.

Habéis arado impiedad y segasteis iniquidad; comeréis fruto de mentira. Porque confiaste en tu camino y en la multitud de tus valientes,

14 T he noise of battle will rise up among your people. All your strong cities will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle. Mothers were crushed in pieces with their children.

en medio de tus pueblos se levantará un alboroto; todas tus fortalezas serán destruidas, como destruyó Salmán a Bet-arbel en el día de la batalla, cuando fue destrozada la madre con sus hijos.

15 T his will be done to you at Bethel because of your many sins. When the day begins, the king of Israel will be destroyed.

Así hará con vosotros Bet-el, por causa de vuestra gran maldad: al despuntar el día desaparecerá para siempre el rey de Israel.»
