1 N ow the whole earth used the same language and the same words.

Tenía entonces toda la tierra una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras.

2 A nd as men traveled in the east, they found a valley in the land of Shinar and made their home there.

Aconteció que cuando salieron de oriente hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

3 T hey said to one another, “Come, let us make blocks and burn them until they are hard.” They used blocks for stone, and tar to hold them together.

Un día se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego.» Así el ladrillo les sirvió en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

4 T hen they said, “Come, let us build a city for ourselves, with a tower that touches the heavens. Let us make a name for ourselves, or else we may be sent everywhere over the whole earth.”

Después dijeron: «Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, por si fuéramos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.»

5 T hen the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men had built.

Jehová descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.

6 A nd the Lord said, “See, they are one people, and they all have the same language. This is only the beginning of what they will do. Now all they plan to do will be possible for them.

Y dijo Jehová: «El pueblo es uno, y todos estos tienen un solo lenguaje; han comenzado la obra y nada los hará desistir ahora de lo que han pensado hacer.

7 C ome, let Us go down and mix up their language so they will not understand what each other says.”

Ahora, pues, descendamos y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.»

8 S o the Lord sent them everywhere over the whole earth. And they stopped building the city.

Así los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

9 S o the name of the city was Babel, because there the Lord mixed up the language of the whole earth. The Lord sent the people everywhere over the whole earth. The Families after Shem

Por eso se la llamó Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra. Descendientes de Sem

10 T hese are the children of Shem. When Shem had lived 100 years, he became the father of Arpachshad, two years after the flood.

Éstos son los descendientes de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.

11 S hem lived 500 years after the birth of Arpachshad. He had other sons and daughters.

Vivió Sem, después que engendró a Arfaxad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

12 W hen Arpachshad had lived thirty-five years, he became the father of Shelah.

Arfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

13 A rpachshad lived 403 years after the birth of Shelah. He had other sons and daughters.

Vivió Arfaxad, después que engendró a Sala, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

14 W hen Shelah had lived thirty years, he became the father of Eber.

Sala vivió treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

15 S helah lived 403 years after the birth of Eber. He had other sons and daughters.

Vivió Sala, después que engendró a Heber, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

16 W hen Eber had lived thirty-four years, he became the father of Peleg.

Heber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

17 E ber lived 430 years after the birth of Peleg. He had other sons and daughters.

18 W hen Peleg had lived thirty years, he became the father of Reu.

Peleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

19 P eleg lived 209 years after the birth of Reu. He had other sons and daughters.

Vivió Peleg, después que engendró a Reu, doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

20 W hen Reu had lived thirty-two years, he became the father of Serug.

Reu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

21 R eu lived 207 years after the birth of Serug. He had other sons and daughters.

Vivió Reu, después que engendró a Serug, doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

22 W hen Serug had lived thirty years, he became the father of Nahor.

Serug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

23 S erug lived 200 years after the birth of Nahor. He had other sons and daughters.

24 W hen Nahor had lived twenty-nine years, he became the father of Terah.

Nacor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

25 N ahor lived 119 years after the birth of Terah. He had other sons and daughters.

26 W hen Terah had lived seventy years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.

Taré vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Descendientes de Taré

27 N ow these are the children of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.

Éstos son los descendientes de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán, y Harán engendró a Lot.

28 H aran died with his father Terah beside him in the land of his birth, Ur of the Chaldeans.

Harán murió antes que su padre Taré en Ur de los caldeos, la tierra donde había nacido.

29 A bram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai. The name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran. Haran was the father of Milcah and Iscah.

Abram y Nacor tomaron para sí mujeres; el nombre de la mujer de Abram era Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

30 B ut Sarai could not give birth. She had no child.

Pero Sarai era estéril y no tenía hijos.

31 T erah took his son Abram, and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram and they went together from Ur of the Chaldeans to the land of Canaan. But when they went as far as Haran, they made their home there.

Tomó Taré a su hijo Abram, y a Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y a Sarai, su nuera, mujer de su hijo Abram, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán. Pero cuando llegaron a Harán se quedaron allí.

32 T erah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.

Y fueron los días de Taré doscientos cinco años, y murió Taré en Harán.
