1 A fter this Jesus went over to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. It is sometimes called Tiberias.

Después de esto, Jesús fue al otro lado del Mar de Galilea, el de Tiberias.

2 M any people followed Him. They saw the powerful works He did on those who were sick.

Y lo seguía una gran multitud, porque veían las señales que hacía en los enfermos.

3 J esus went up on a mountain and sat down with His followers.

Entonces subió Jesús a un monte y se sentó allí con sus discípulos.

4 T he special religious supper to remember how the Jews left Egypt was soon.

Y estaba cerca la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos.

5 J esus looked up and saw many people coming to Him. He said to Philip, “Where can we buy bread to feed these people?”

Cuando alzó Jesús los ojos y vio que había venido a él una gran multitud, dijo a Felipe: —¿De dónde compraremos pan para que coman estos?

6 H e said this to see what Philip would say. Jesus knew what He would do.

Pero esto decía para probarlo, porque él sabía lo que iba a hacer.

7 P hilip said to Him, “The money we have is not enough to buy bread to give each one a little.”

Felipe le respondió: —Doscientos denarios de pan no bastarían para que cada uno de ellos tomara un poco.

8 O ne of His followers was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He said to Jesus,

Uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo:

9 “ There is a boy here who has five loaves of barley bread and two small fish. What is that for so many people?”

—Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados; pero ¿qué es esto para tantos?

10 J esus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was much grass in that place. About five thousand men sat down.

Entonces Jesús dijo: —Haced recostar a la gente. Había mucha hierba en aquel lugar, y se recostaron como en número de cinco mil hombres.

11 J esus took the loaves and gave thanks. Then He gave the bread to those who were sitting down. The fish were given out the same way. The people had as much as they wanted.

Tomó Jesús aquellos panes y, después de dar gracias, los repartió entre los discípulos, y los discípulos entre los que estaban recostados; de igual manera hizo con los pescados, dándoles cuanto querían.

12 W hen they were filled, Jesus said to His followers, “Gather up the pieces that are left. None will be wasted.”

Y cuando se saciaron, dijo a sus discípulos: —Recoged los pedazos que sobraron, para que no se pierda nada.

13 T he followers gathered the pieces together. Twelve baskets were filled with pieces of barley bread. These were left after all the people had eaten.

Recogieron, pues, y llenaron doce cestas de pedazos que de los cinco panes de cebada sobraron a los que habían comido.

14 T he people saw the powerful work Jesus had done. They said, “It is true! This is the One Who speaks for God Who is to come into the world.” Jesus Walks on the Water

Entonces aquellos hombres, al ver la señal que Jesús había hecho, dijeron: «Verdaderamente éste es el Profeta que había de venir al mundo.»

15 J esus knew they were about to come and take Him to make Him king, so He went to the mountain by Himself.

Pero entendiendo Jesús que iban a venir para apoderarse de él y hacerlo rey, volvió a retirarse al monte él solo. Jesús anda sobre el mar

16 W hen evening had come, His followers went down to the lake.

Al anochecer descendieron sus discípulos al mar,

17 T hey got into a boat and started to cross the lake to go to the city of Capernaum. By this time it was dark. Jesus had not come back to them yet.

y entrando en una barca iban cruzando el mar hacia Capernaúm. Ya había oscurecido, y Jesús todavía no había venido a ellos.

18 A strong wind was making high waves on the lake.

El mar estaba agitado, porque soplaba un fuerte viento.

19 T hey were about half way across the lake when they saw Jesus walking on the water. As He got near the boat, they were afraid.

Cuando habían remado como veinticinco o treinta estadios, vieron a Jesús que andaba sobre el mar y se acercaba a la barca, y tuvieron miedo.

20 B ut Jesus called to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.”

Pero él les dijo: —Yo soy; no temáis.

21 T hey were glad to take Him into the boat. At once they got to the other side where they wanted to go. Jesus Teaches Many People

Entonces ellos lo recibieron con gusto en la barca, la cual llegó en seguida a la tierra a donde iban. La gente busca a Jesús

22 T he next day the people on the other side of the lake saw no other boat there but the one His followers had been in. The people knew Jesus had not gone with His followers in the boat because they had gone alone.

Al día siguiente, la gente que estaba al otro lado del mar se dio cuenta de que no había habido allí más que una sola barca, y que Jesús no había entrado en ella con sus discípulos, sino que estos se habían ido solos.

23 T here were other boats from Tiberias that had come near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

Pero otras barcas habían llegado de Tiberias junto al lugar donde habían comido el pan después de haber dado gracias el Señor.

24 T he people saw that Jesus and His followers were not there. They got into boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

Cuando vio, pues, la gente que Jesús no estaba allí, ni sus discípulos, entraron en las barcas y fueron a Capernaúm, buscando a Jesús. Jesús, el pan de vida

25 T he people found Him on the other side of the lake. They said to Him, “Teacher, when did You come here?”

Y hallándolo al otro lado del mar, le preguntaron: —Rabí, ¿cuándo llegaste acá?

26 J esus said to them, “For sure, I tell you, you are not looking for Me because of the powerful works. You are looking for Me because you ate bread and were filled.

Respondió Jesús y les dijo: —De cierto, de cierto os digo que me buscáis, no porque habéis visto las señales, sino porque comisteis el pan y os saciasteis.

27 D o not work for food that does not last. Work for food that lasts forever. The Son of Man will give you that kind of food. God the Father has shown He will do this.” Jesus Teaches about Doing the Work of God

Trabajad, no por la comida que perece, sino por la comida que permanece para vida eterna, la cual os dará el Hijo del hombre, porque a éste señaló Dios, el Padre.

28 T hen the people said to Him, “What are the works God wants us to do?”

Entonces le preguntaron: —¿Qué debemos hacer para poner en práctica las obras de Dios?

29 J esus said to them, “This is the work of God, that you put your trust in the One He has sent.”

Respondió Jesús y les dijo: —Ésta es la obra de Dios, que creáis en aquel que él ha enviado.

30 T hey said to Him, “Can You show us some powerful work? Then we can see it and believe You. What will You do?

Entonces le dijeron: —¿Qué señal, pues, haces tú, para que veamos y te creamos? ¿Qué obra haces?

31 O ur early fathers ate bread that came from heaven in the desert. This happened as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus Is the Bread of Life

Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: “Les dio a comer pan del cielo.”

32 T hen Jesus said to the people, “For sure, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you bread from heaven. My Father gives you the true Bread from heaven.

Y Jesús les dijo: —De cierto, de cierto os digo: Moisés no os dio el pan del cielo, pero mi Padre os da el verdadero pan del cielo,

33 T he Bread of God is He Who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

porque el pan de Dios es aquel que descendió del cielo y da vida al mundo.

34 T hey said to Him, “Sir, give us this Bread all the time.”

Le dijeron: —Señor, danos siempre este pan.

35 J esus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry. He who puts his trust in Me will never be thirsty.

Jesús les respondió: —Yo soy el pan de vida. El que a mí viene nunca tendrá hambre, y el que en mí cree no tendrá sed jamás.

36 I said to you that you have seen Me and yet you do not put your trust in Me.

Pero ya os he dicho que, aunque me habéis visto, no creéis.

37 A ll whom My Father has given to Me will come to Me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to Me.

Todo lo que el Padre me da, vendrá a mí, y al que a mí viene, no lo echo fuera.

38 I came down from heaven. I did not come to do what I wanted to do. I came to do what My Father wanted Me to do. He is the One Who sent Me.

He descendido del cielo, no para hacer mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió.

39 “ The Father sent Me. He did not want Me to lose any of all those He gave Me. He wants Me to raise them to life on the last day.

Y la voluntad del Padre, que me envió, es que no pierda yo nada de todo lo que él me da, sino que lo resucite en el día final.

40 H e wants everyone who sees the Son to put his trust in Him and have life that lasts forever. I will raise that one up on the last day.”

Y ésta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: que todo aquel que ve al Hijo y cree en él tenga vida eterna; y yo lo resucitaré en el día final.

41 T he Jews talked among themselves against Him. They did not like it because He said, “I am the Bread that came down from heaven.”

Murmuraban entonces de él los judíos, porque había dicho: «Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo»,

42 T hey asked each other, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know His father and mother. How can He say, ‘I came down from heaven’ ?”

y decían: —Éste, ¿no es Jesús el hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos? ¿Cómo dice ahora: “Del cielo he descendido”?

43 J esus said to them, “Do not talk among yourselves against Me.

Jesús respondió y les dijo: —No murmuréis entre vosotros.

44 T he Father sent Me. No man can come to Me unless the Father gives him the desire to come to Me. Then I will raise him to life on the last day.

Nadie puede venir a mí, si el Padre, que me envió, no lo atrae; y yo lo resucitaré en el día final.

45 T he early preachers wrote, ‘They will all be taught of God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me.

Escrito está en los Profetas: “Y todos serán enseñados por Dios.” Así que, todo aquel que oye al Padre y aprende de él, viene a mí.

46 N o one has seen the Father. I am the only One Who has seen Him.

No que alguien haya visto al Padre; sólo aquel que viene de Dios, ése ha visto al Padre.

47 F or sure, I tell you, he who puts his trust in Me has life that lasts forever.

De cierto, de cierto os digo: El que cree en mí tiene vida eterna.

48 I am the Bread of Life.

Yo soy el pan de vida.

49 Y our early fathers ate bread that came from heaven in the desert. They died.

Vuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, y aun así murieron.

50 B ut this is the Bread that comes down from heaven. The one who eats it never dies.

Éste es el pan que desciende del cielo para que no muera quien coma de él.

51 I am the Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this Bread, he will live forever. The Bread which I will give is My flesh. I will give this for the life of the world.”

Yo soy el pan vivo que descendió del cielo; si alguien come de este pan, vivirá para siempre; y el pan que yo daré es mi carne, la cual yo daré por la vida del mundo.

52 T he Jews argued among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

Entonces los judíos discutían entre sí, diciendo: —¿Cómo puede éste darnos a comer su carne?

53 J esus said to them, “For sure, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life in you.

Jesús les dijo: —De cierto, de cierto os digo: Si no coméis la carne del Hijo del hombre y bebéis su sangre, no tenéis vida en vosotros.

54 W hoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has life that lasts forever. I will raise him up on the last day.

El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el día final,

55 M y flesh is true food and My blood is true drink.

porque mi carne es verdadera comida y mi sangre es verdadera bebida.

56 W hoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood lives in Me and I live in him.

El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre permanece en mí y yo en él.

57 T he living Father sent Me and I live because of Him. In the same way, the one who eats Me will live because of Me.

Así como me envió el Padre viviente y yo vivo por el Padre, también el que me come vivirá por mí.

58 I am this Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the bread that your early fathers ate and they died. Whoever eats this Bread will live forever.”

Éste es el pan que descendió del cielo; no como vuestros padres, que comieron el maná y murieron; el que come este pan vivirá eternamente.

59 J esus said these things in the Jewish place of worship while He was teaching in the city of Capernaum. The Troubled Followers Leave Jesus

Estas cosas dijo en Capernaúm, enseñando en una sinagoga. Palabras de vida eterna

60 A fter hearing this, many of His followers said, “This teaching is too hard! Who can listen to it?”

Al oír esto, muchos de sus discípulos dijeron: —Dura es esta palabra; ¿quién la puede oír?

61 J esus knew His followers talked against what He had said. He said to them, “Does this trouble you?

Sabiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, les dijo: —¿Esto os escandaliza?

62 T hen what would you say if you saw the Son of Man going up where He was before?

¿Pues qué, si vierais al Hijo del hombre subir a donde estaba primero?

63 I t is the Spirit that gives life. The flesh is of no help. The words I speak to you are spirit and life.

El espíritu es el que da vida; la carne para nada aprovecha. Las palabras que yo os he hablado son espíritu y son vida.

64 B ut some of you do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning who would not put their trust in Him. He knew who would hand Him over to the leaders of the country.

Pero hay algunos de vosotros que no creen —porque Jesús sabía desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían y quién lo había de entregar—.

65 H e said, “That is why I told you no one can come to Me unless the Father allows it.”

Y dijo: —Por eso os he dicho que ninguno puede venir a mí, si no le es dado del Padre.

66 F rom that time on, many of His followers turned back to their old ways of living. They would not go along with Him after that. Peter Knows Who Jesus Is

Desde entonces muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás y ya no andaban con él.

67 T hen Jesus said to the twelve followers, “Will you leave Me also?”

Dijo entonces Jesús a los doce: —¿Queréis acaso iros también vosotros?

68 S imon Peter said to Him, “Lord, who else can we go to? You have words that give life that lasts forever.

Le respondió Simón Pedro: —Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.

69 W e believe and know You are the Christ. You are the Son of the Living God.”

Y nosotros hemos creído y conocido que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente.

70 J esus said to them, “I chose you twelve as My followers. And one of you is a devil.”

Jesús les respondió: —¿No os he escogido yo a vosotros los doce, y uno de vosotros es diablo?

71 H e was speaking of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who was one of the twelve followers. He was ready to hand Jesus over to the leaders of the country.

Hablaba de Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón, porque él era el que lo iba a entregar, y era uno de los doce.
