1 T hen Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Y respondió el SEÑOR a Job desde el torbellino, y dijo:

2 W ho is this that darkeneth counsel By words without knowledge?

¿Quién es ese que oscurece el consejo con palabras sin conocimiento?

3 G ird up now thy loins like a man; For I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y hazme saber tú.

4 W here wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.

¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? Házmelo saber, si tienes entendimiento.

5 W ho determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched the line upon it?

¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿O quién extendió sobre ella cordel?

6 W hereupon were the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,

¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus bases? ¿O quién puso su piedra angular,

7 W hen the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

cuando alababan todas las estrellas del alba, y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?

8 O r who shut up the sea with doors, When it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb;

¿Quién encerró con puertas el mar, cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;

9 W hen I made clouds the garment thereof, And thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,

cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, y por su faja oscuridad?

10 A nd marked out for it my bound, And set bars and doors,

Y determiné sobre él mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,

11 A nd said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further; And here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante, y allí parará el orgullo de tus ondas.

12 H ast thou commanded the morning since thy days began, And caused the dayspring to know its place;

¿Has mandado tú a la mañana en tus días? ¿Has mostrado al alba su lugar,

13 T hat it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?

para que ocupe los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?

14 I t is changed as clay under the seal; And all things stand forth as a garment:

Es transformado como lodo al sello, y luego se para como vestidura;

15 A nd from the wicked their light is withholden, And the high arm is broken.

mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.

16 H ast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?

¿Por ventura has entrado hasta los nacederos del mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?

17 H ave the gates of death been revealed unto thee? Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?

¿Por ventura te han sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte o has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?

18 H ast thou comprehended the earth in its breadth? Declare, if thou knowest it all.

¿Has considerado tú hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.

19 W here is the way to the dwelling of light? And as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

¿Por dónde va el camino a la habitación de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas?

20 T hat thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, And that thou shouldest discern the paths to the house thereof?

¿Si la tomarás tú en sus términos, y si entendieras las sendas de su casa?

21 D oubtless, thou knowest, for thou wast then born, And the number of thy days is great!

¿Si sabías tú cuando habías de nacer, y si el número de tus días había de ser grande?

22 H ast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

¿Has entrado tú en los tesoros de la nieve, y has visto los tesoros del granizo,

23 W hich I have reserved against the time of trouble, Against the day of battle and war?

lo cual tengo yo reservado para el tiempo de la angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?

24 B y what way is the light parted, Or the east wind scattered upon the earth?

¿Cuál sea el camino por donde se reparte la luz; por donde se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?

25 W ho hath cleft a channel for the waterflood, Or the way for the lightning of the thunder;

¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión, y camino a los relámpagos del trueno,

26 T o cause it to rain on a land where no man is; On the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,

27 T o satisfy the waste and desolate ground, And to cause the tender grass to spring forth?

para saciar la tierra desierta e inculta, y para hacer producir de verdura renuevos?

28 H ath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

¿Por ventura la lluvia tiene padre? ¿O quién engendró las gotas del rocío?

29 O ut of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

¿Del vientre de quién salió el hielo? Y la helada del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?

30 T he waters hide themselves and become like stone, And the face of the deep is frozen.

Las aguas se endurecen a manera de piedra, y se congela la faz del abismo.

31 C anst thou bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the bands of Orion?

¿Detendrás tú por ventura las delicias de las Pléyades, o desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?

32 C anst thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or canst thou guide the Bear with her train?

¿Sacarás tú a su tiempo los signos de los cielos, o guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?

33 K nowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?

¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿Dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?

34 C anst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover thee?

¿Alzarás tú a las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?

35 C anst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go, And say unto thee, Here we are?

¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿Y te dirán ellos: Henos aquí?

36 W ho hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the mind?

¿Quién puso la sabiduría en lo íntimo? ¿O quién dio al entendimiento la inteligencia?

37 W ho can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,

¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? Y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace parar,

38 W hen the dust runneth into a mass, And the clods cleave fast together?

cuando el polvo se ha endurecido con dureza, y los terrones se pegan unos a otros?

39 C anst thou hunt the prey for the lioness, Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,

¿Cazarás tú la presa para el león? ¿Y saciarás el hambre de los leoncillos,

40 W hen they couch in their dens, And abide in the covert to lie in wait?

cuando están echados en las cuevas, o se están en sus guaridas para acechar?

41 W ho provideth for the raven his prey, When his young ones cry unto God, And wander for lack of food?

¿Quién preparó al cuervo su alimento, cuando sus polluelos claman a Dios, y andan errantes sin comida?
