1 A nd when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

Y cuando vino Roboam a Jerusalén, juntó la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para pelear contra Israel y volver el reino a Roboam.

2 B ut the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Mas vino palabra del SEÑOR a Semeías varón de Dios, diciendo:

3 S peak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los Israelitas que están en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndoles:

4 T hus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: No subáis ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase casa uno a su casa, porque yo he hecho este negocio. Y ellos oyeron la palabra del SEÑOR, y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam.

5 A nd Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

¶ Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

6 H e built Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

Y edificó a Belén, a Etam, a Tecoa,

7 A nd Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

a Bet-sur, a Soco, a Adulam,

8 a nd Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

a Gat, a Maresa, a Zif,

9 a nd Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

a Adoraim, a Laquis, a Azeca,

10 a nd Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

a Zora, a Ajalón, y a Hebrón, que eran en Judá y en Benjamín, ciudades fuertes.

11 A nd he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine.

Fortificó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, provisiones, vino, y aceite;

12 A nd in every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

y en todas las ciudades, escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera, y Judá y Benjamín estuvieron de parte de él.

13 A nd the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.

Y los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos sus términos.

14 F or the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest's office unto Jehovah;

Porque los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y venían a Judá y a Jerusalén; pues Jeroboam y sus hijos los expulsaron para que no ejercieran el sacerdocio del SEÑOR.

15 a nd he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.

Y él se hizo sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios, y para los becerros que él había hecho.

16 A nd after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

Tras de aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar al SEÑOR Dios de Israel; y vinieron a Jerusalén para sacrificar al SEÑOR, el Dios de sus padres.

17 S o they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

Así fortificaron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón por tres años, porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David, y de Salomón.

18 A nd Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

Y tomó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat, hija de Jerimot hijo de David, y a Abihail, hija de Eliab hijo de Isaí.

19 a nd she bare him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

La cual le dio a luz hijos: a Jeús, a Samarías, y a Zaham.

20 A nd after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

Después de ella tomó a Maaca hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz a Abías, a Atai, a Ziza, y a Selomit.

21 A nd Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.)

Mas Roboam amó a Maaca hija de Absalón sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas; porque tomó dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

22 A nd Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king.

Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca por cabeza y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerle rey.

23 A nd he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.

Y le hizo instruir, y esparció todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fuertes, y les dio provisiones en abundancia, y fue dado a muchas mujeres.
