1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

¶ Y habló el SEÑOR a Josué, diciendo:

2 S peak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by Moses,

Habla a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por Moisés;

3 t hat the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly and unawares may flee thither: and they shall be unto you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

para que se acoja allí el homicida que matare a alguno por yerro y no a sabiendas; que os sean por refugio contra el vengador de la sangre del muerto.

4 A nd he shall flee unto one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Y el que se acogiere a alguna de aquellas ciudades, se presentará a la puerta de la ciudad, y dirá sus causas, oyéndolo los ancianos de aquella ciudad; y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar que habite con ellos.

5 A nd if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unawares, and hated him not beforetime.

Y cuando el vengador de la sangre le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió a su prójimo por yerro, ni tuvo con él antes enemistad.

6 A nd he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación y hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que fuere en aquel tiempo; entonces el homicida podrá volver a su ciudad y a su casa y a la ciudad de donde huyó.

7 A nd they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah.

¶ Entonces señalaron a Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Neftalí, y a Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y a Quiriat-arba, que es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá.

8 A nd beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Y al otro lado del Jordán de Jericó, al oriente, señalaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, y a Ramot en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basán de la tribu de Manasés.

9 T hese were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person unwittingly might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morara entre ellos, para que se acogiera a ellas cualquiera que hiriera hombre por yerro; para que no muriera por mano del vengador de la sangre, hasta que compareciera delante de la congregación.
