1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 S peak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by Moses,

Говорѝ на израелтяните: Определете си градове за убежище, за които съм ви казал чрез Моисей,

3 t hat the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly and unawares may flee thither: and they shall be unto you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

за да се укрива там онзи убиец, който убие човек без умисъл, по незнание; и тези градове да ви бъдат убежище от отмъстителя за кръвта.

4 A nd he shall flee unto one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

И когато онзи, който побегне в един от тези градове, застане във входа на градската порта и разкаже за случилото се на всеослушание пред старейшините от онзи град, те нека го приемат в града при себе си и нека му дадат място, и той да живее при тях.

5 A nd if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unawares, and hated him not beforetime.

И ако отмъстителят за кръвта го преследва, те да не му предават убиеца; защото по незнание е убил ближния си, без да го е мразил преди това.

6 A nd he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Той да живее в онзи град, докато се яви на съд пред обществото и до смъртта на онзи, който е първосвещеник в онова време. След това убиецът да се върне и да отиде в града си и в дома си, откъдето е избягал.

7 A nd they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah.

И така, определиха Кадес в Галилея, в хълмистата земя на Нефталим, Сихем в хълмистата земя на Ефрем и Кириат-Арва (който е Хеврон) в хълмистата земя на Юда.

8 A nd beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

А оттатък Йордан срещу Йерихон, на изток, определиха Восор в пустинята на платото на Рувимовото племе, Рамот в Галаад от Гадовото племе и Голан във Васан от Манасиевото племе.

9 T hese were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person unwittingly might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Тези бяха градовете, определени за всички израелтяни и за чужденците, които живеят между тях, така че всеки, който би убил някого, без да има такова намерение, да бяга там, за да не бъде убит от отмъстителя за кръвта, докато се яви пред обществото.
