1 A nd it came to pass, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.

След една година, по времето, когато царете отиват на война, Давид прати Йоав, слугите си с него и целия Израел. И те разбиха амонците и обсадиха Рава. А Давид остана в Йерусалим.

2 A nd it came to pass at eventide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

Надвечер Давид стана от леглото си и се разхождаше по покрива на царската къща. И от покрива видя една жена, която се къпеше. А жената беше много красива.

3 A nd David send and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

И Давид прати да разпитат коя е жената. И един каза: Това е Витсавее, дъщеря на Елиам, жена на хета Урия.

4 A nd David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned unto her house.

Тогава Давид прати хора да я доведат и когато тя дойде при него, той лежа с нея (защото се беше очистила от нечистотата си); и тя се върна у дома си.

5 A nd the woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

А жената зачена; и прати да известят на Давид: Бременна съм.

6 A nd David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

Тогава Давид прати вестоносец до Йоав да му каже: Изпрати ми хета Урия. И Йоав изпрати Урия при Давид.

7 A nd when Uriah was come unto him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.

И когато Урия дойде при него, Давид го попита как е Йоав, как е народът и как върви войната.

8 A nd David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of food from the king.

После Давид каза на Урия: Слез у дома си и си умий краката. И Урия излезе от царската къща, а след него отиде дял от царската трапеза.

9 B ut Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

Но Урия спа при вратата на царската къща с всички слуги на господаря си и не слезе у дома си.

10 A nd when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Art thou not come from a journey? wherefore didst thou not go down unto thy house?

И когато известиха на Давид, че Урия не слязъл у дома си, Давид му каза: Не си ли дошъл от път? Защо не слезе у дома си?

11 A nd Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in booths; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.

Урия отговори на Давид: Ковчегът, Израел и Юда престояват в шатри. Господарят ми Йоав и слугите на господаря ми са разположени в стан на открито поле. А аз у дома си ли да ида, за да ям и да пия, и да спя с жена си? Заклевам се в твоя живот и в живота на душата ти, това няма да направя.

12 A nd David said to Uriah, Tarry here to-day also, and to-morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

Тогава Давид каза на Урия: Престой тук и днес, а утре ще те изпратя. И така, Урия престоя в Йерусалим през онзи ден и на другия.

13 A nd when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

Давид го покани и яде пред него и пи; и го опи. Но вечерта Урия излезе да спи на леглото си със слугите си, а у дома си не слезе.

14 A nd it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

Затова на сутринта Давид писа писмо на Йоав и го прати по Урия.

15 A nd he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

А в писмото написа следното: Поставете Урия там, където сражението е най-силно. После се оттеглете от него, за да бъде ударен и да умре.

16 A nd it came to pass, when Joab kept watch upon the city, that he assigned Uriah unto the place where he knew that valiant men were.

И така, Йоав, като държеше града в обсада, определи Урия на едно място, където знаеше, че има храбри мъже.

17 A nd the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people, even of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

И когато мъжете излязоха от града и се биха с Йоав, паднаха неколцина от народа, т. е. от Давидовите слуги. Умря и хетът Урия.

18 T hen Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

Тогава Йоав прати да известят на Давид всичко, което се беше случило във войната.

19 a nd he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling all the things concerning the war unto the king,

Той заповяда на вестоносеца: Когато разкажеш на царя всичко, което се е случило във войната,

20 i t shall be that, if the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore went ye so nigh unto the city to fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

ако гневът на царя пламне и ти каже: Защо се приближихте толкова до града да се биете, не знаехте ли, че щяха да стрелят от стената?

21 w ho smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? why went ye so nigh the wall? then shalt thou say, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

Кой порази Авимелех, син на Ерувесета? Една жена не хвърли ли върху него от стената горен воденичен камък и той не умря ли в Тевес? Защо се приближихте толкова близо до стената? Тогава ти кажи: Умря и слугата ти, хетът Урия.

22 S o the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

И така, вестоносецът замина и като пристигна, извести на Давид всичко, за което Йоав го беше изпратил.

23 A nd the messenger said unto David, The men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entrance of the gate.

Вестителят каза на Давид: Мъжете надделяха над нас и излязоха против нас на полето; а ние ги прогонихме чак до входа на портата.

24 A nd the shooters shot at thy servants from off the wall; and some of the king's servants are dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

Но стрелците стреляха от стената върху слугите ти и неколцина от слугите на царя умряха. Умря и слугата ти, хетът Урия.

25 T hen David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another; make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.

Тогава Давид каза на вестоносеца: Така да кажеш на Йоав: Да не те смущава това нещо, защото мечът погубва понякога един и понякога - друг. Засили още повече нападението си против града и го съсипи. Също и ти го насърчи.

26 A nd when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband.

А когато Уриевата жена чу, че мъжът ѝ Урия умрял, плака за мъжа си.

27 A nd when the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Jehovah.

И като премина жалейката, Давид прати и я взе у дома си. Тя му стана жена и му роди син. Но делото, което Давид беше извършил, беше зло пред Господа.
