1 N ow the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

А филистимците воюваха против Израел; и Израелевите мъже побегнаха от филистимците и паднаха убити на хълма Гелвуе.

2 A nd the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

Филистимците настигнаха Саул и синовете му; и убиха Сауловите синове Йонатан, Авинадав и Мелхисуй.

3 A nd the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers.

И битката се засилваше против Саул и стрелците го улучиха. Той беше тежко ранен от стрелите.

4 T hen said Saul to his armorbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

Тогава Саул каза на оръженосеца си: Изтегли меча си и ме прободи с него, за да не дойдат тези необрязани и да ме прободат и се поругаят с мене. Но оръженосецът му не прие, защото много се боеше. Затова Саул взе меча си и падна върху него.

5 A nd when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died with him.

Оръженосецът, като видя, че Саул умря, хвърли се и той върху меча си и умря с него.

6 S o Saul died, and his three sons, and his armorbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

Така умряха Саул, тримата му сина, оръженосецът му и всичките му мъже заедно в същия ден.

7 A nd when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Тогава Израелевите мъже, които бяха отвъд долината и отвъд Йордан, като видяха, че Израелевите мъже бягаха и че Саул и синовите му бяха избити, напуснаха градовете и побегнаха; а филистимците дойдоха и се заселиха в тях.

8 A nd it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

А на следващия ден, когато филистимците дойдоха да съблекат убитите, намериха Саул и тримата му сина паднали на хълма Гелвуе.

9 A nd they cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto the house of their idols, and to the people.

Те отсякоха главата му, снеха оръжията му и изпратиха пратеници навред по филистимската земя, за да разнесат известие в светилищата на идолите си и между хората.

10 A nd they put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

Оръжията му положиха в храма на Астарта, а тялото му окачиха на стената на Ветсан.

11 A nd when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard concerning him that which the Philistines had done to Saul,

А след като жителите на Явис-галаад чуха това, което филистимците направили със Саул,

12 a ll the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

всички храбри мъже станаха и като ходиха през цялата нощ, снеха тялото на Саул и телата на синовете му от стената на Ветсан и като ги донесоха в Явис, ги изгориха там.

13 A nd they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk-tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

И взеха костите им, закопаха ги под дървото в Явис и постиха седем дни.
