1 C ome down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

Сниши се и седни в пръстта, девице, дъще вавилонска; седни на земята, а не на престол, дъще халдейска; защото няма да се наричаш вече изтънчена и изнежена.

2 T ake the millstones, and grind meal; remove thy veil, strip off the train, uncover the leg, pass through the rivers.

Хвани ръчната мелница и мели брашно! Махни булото си, вдигни полите си, открий краката си до коленете, мини реките.

3 T hy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and will spare no man.

Голотата ти ще се види. Да! Срамотата ти ще се яви. Аз ще си отмъстя и няма да се примиря с никого.

4 O ur Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

Името на нашия Изкупител е Господ на Силите, Святият Израелев.

5 S it thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.

Седи и мълчи, и влез в тъмнината, халдейска дъще, защото няма вече да те наричат господарка на царствата.

6 I was wroth with my people, I profaned mine inheritance, and gave them into thy hand: thou didst show them no mercy; upon the aged hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

Разгневих се на народа Си, оскверних наследството Си и ги предадох в ръката ти; но ти не им показа милост, ти си сложила тежкия си хомот върху стареца;

7 A nd thou saidst, I shall be mistress for ever; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end thereof.

и си казала: Довека ще бъда господарка; и не си взела това присърце, нито си помнила сетнината му.

8 N ow therefore hear this, thou that art given to pleasures, that sittest securely, that sayest in thy heart, I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

И така, сега чуй това, ти, сластолюбке, която седиш безгрижна, която казваш в сърцето си: Аз съм - и освен мене няма друга; няма да стоя вдовица, нито ще зная какво е да остана без деца -

9 b ut these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood; in their full measure shall they come upon thee, in the multitude of thy sorceries, and the great abundance of thine enchantments.

и тези две неща ще дойдат върху тебе внезапно, в един ден: загуба на деца и овдовяване; в пълна мяра ще те постигнат въпреки многото ти магьосничества и голямото изобилие на баянията ти.

10 F or thou hast trusted in thy wickedness; thou hast said, None seeth me; thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee, and thou hast said in thy heart, I am, and there is none else besides me.

Понеже си била дръзка в нечестието си и си казала: Никой не ме вижда, - понеже мъдростта ти и знанието ти са те отвратили и си казала в сърцето си: Аз съм - и освен мене няма друга, -

11 T herefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know the dawning thereof: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it away: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou knowest not.

затова ще дойде върху тебе зло, без да знаеш откъде се явява; и беда ще те нападне, без да можеш да я умилостивиш; ще дойде внезапно върху теб и опустошение, без да ти е било известно.

12 S tand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast labored from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

Приближи сега с баянията си и с многото си магьосничества, в които си се трудила от младостта си. Може би ще се ползваш! Може би ще уплашиш неприятеля!

13 T hou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels: let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from the things that shall come upon thee.

Уморила си се в многото си съвещания. Нека приближат сега астролозите, звездобройците и прорицателите по новолунията и нека те избавят от това, което ще дойде върху теб!

14 B ehold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: it shall not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before.

Ето, те ще бъдат като плява; огън ще ги изгори; няма да могат да се избавят от силата на пламъка, понеже той няма да бъде въглен да се стопли някой или огън, пред който да седне.

15 T hus shall the things be unto thee wherein thou hast labored: they that have trafficked with thee from thy youth shall wander every one to his quarter; there shall be none to save thee.

Такива ще ти станат нещата, в които си се трудила; онези, които са търгували с теб от младостта ти, ще се разбягат всеки в своя си път; няма да има кой да те избави.
