1 N ow when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto Jehovah, the God of Israel;

А неприятелите на Юда и Вениамин, като чуха, че върналите се от плена строели храма на Господа, Израелевия Бог,

2 t hen they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said unto them, Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.

дойдоха при Зоровавел и при началниците на бащините домове и им казаха: Да градим с вас; защото и ние търсим вашия Бог, както вие Него, и Му жертваме от времето на асирийския цар Есарадон, който ни изведе тук.

3 B ut Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us in building a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

Но Зоровавел, Исус и останалите началници на Израелевите бащини домове им отговориха: Не можете вие заедно с нас да построите дом на нашия Бог; а ние сами ще построим на Господа, Израелевия Бог, както ни заповяда персийският цар Кир.

4 T hen the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

Тогава народът на земята отслабваше ръцете на Юдейския народ и им пречеха в граденето,

5 a nd hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

и наемаха съветници против тях, за да осуетят намерението им, през всички дни на персийския цар Кир, дори до царуването на персийския цар Дарий.

6 A nd in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

И когато царуваше Асуир, в началото на царуването му, написаха обвинение против жителите на Юдея и Йерусалим.

7 A nd in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian character, and set forth in the Syrian tongue.

В дните на Артаксеркс писаха Вислам, Митридат, Тавеил и другите им съслужители до персийския цар Артаксеркс; писмото бе написано със сирийски букви и бе съчинено на сирийски език.

8 R ehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

Властникът Реум и секретарят Самса писаха писмо против Йерусалим до цар Артаксеркс, както следва:

9 t hen wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,

Властникът Реум, секретарят Самса и другите им съслужители, динците, афарсахците, тарфалците, афарсяните, архевците, вавилонците, сусанците, деавците, еламците

10 a nd the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth.

и останалите народи, които великият и славният Асенафар доведе и засели в градовете на Самария и в другите градове оттатък реката, и така:

11 T his is the copy of the letter that they sent unto Artaxerxes the king: Thy servants the men beyond the River, and so forth.

(ето препис от писмото, което пратиха на цар Артаксеркс) Слугите ти, мъжете, които са оттатък реката, и така:

12 B e it known unto the king, that the Jews that came up from thee are come to us unto Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations.

Да е известно на царя, че юдеите, които излязоха от тебе при нас, като стигнаха в Йерусалим, градят бунтовния и зъл град и издигат стената, като са свързали основите.

13 B e it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful unto the kings.

Да е известно сега на царя, че ако бъде съграден този град и бъдат издигнати стените, то няма да плащат данък, мито или пътна повинност, така че ще навредят на дохода на царете.

14 N ow because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not meet for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and certified the king;

А понеже ние се храним от палата и е неприлично за нас да гледаме вредата, която ще бъде нанесена на царя, затова пратихме да известим на царя,

15 t hat search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.

за да бъде издирено в книгата на летописите на бащите ти; и ще намериш в книгата на летописите и ще узнаеш, че този град е бунтовен, вреден за царете и областите, и че още от старо време са вдигали въстания сред него, поради което този град е бил опустошен.

16 W e certify the king that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, by this means thou shalt have no portion beyond the River.

Известяваме на царя, че ако този град бъде съграден наново и бъдат издигнати стените му, няма да притежаваш нищо отсам реката.

17 T hen sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace, and so forth.

Царят отговори на властника Реум, на секретаря Самса и на другите им съслужители, които живееха в Самария и в другите градове отсам реката: Мир и прочее.

18 T he letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

Писмото, което ни пратихте, бе прочетено разумно пред мен

19 A nd I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.

и като издадох указ, издириха и намериха, че този град още от старо време се е повдигал против царете и че в него са ставали бунтове и въстания.

20 T here have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid unto them.

Имало е още и силни царе над Йерусалим, които владеели над всичките страни оттатък реката, на които били плащани данък, мито и пътна повинност.

21 M ake ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me.

И така, сега заповядайте онези мъже да престанат и да не бъде съграден този град, докато не бъде издаден указ от мен.

22 A nd take heed that ye be not slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

И внимавайте да не бъдете небрежни в това, да не би да порасне злото в ущърб на царете.

23 T hen when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.

А когато преписът от писмото на цар Артаксеркс бе прочетен пред Реум, секретаря Самса и съслужителите им, те побързаха да излязат в Йерусалим при юдеите и ги спряха насила.

24 T hen ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Така престана работата по Божия дом, който е в Йерусалим, и остана спряна до втората година от царуването на персийския цар Дарий.
