1 A nd it came to pass in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

В дните, когато съдиите управляваха, настана глад по земята. И един човек от Витлеем Юдейски заедно с жена си и двамата си сина се пресели в Моавската земя.

2 A nd the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

Името на човека беше Елимелех, името на жена му Ноемин, а имената на двамата му сина Маалон и Хелеон. Те бяха ефратци от Витлеем Юдейски и дойдоха в Моавската земя, и останаха там.

3 A nd Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.

Елимелех, мъжът на Ноемин, умря и тя остана с двамата си сина.

4 A nd they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelt there about ten years.

И синовете ѝ си взеха за жени моавки, чиито имена бяха Орфа и Рут; и живяха там около десет години.

5 A nd Mahlon and Chilion died both of them; and the woman was left of her two children and of her husband.

След това Маалон и Хелеон умряха - и двамата, така че Ноемин се лиши и от мъжа си, и от двамата си сина.

6 T hen she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that Jehovah had visited his people in giving them bread.

След това тя реши заедно със снахите си да напусне Моавската земя, защото беше чула в Моавската земя, че Господ посетил народа Си и му дал хляб.

7 A nd she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

И така, тя тръгна от мястото, където беше, заедно със снахите си и когато вървяха по пътя, за да се върнат в Юдейската земя,

8 A nd Naomi said unto her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother's house: Jehovah deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

Ноемин им каза: Вървете, върнете се всяка в дома на майка си. Господ да постъпва с благост към вас, както вие постъпвахте към покойните ви съпрузи и към мене.

9 J ehovah grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept.

Господ да ви даде да намерите спокойствие, всяка в дома на бъдещ съпруг. Тогава ги целуна; а те плакаха силно.

10 A nd they said unto her, Nay, but we will return with thee unto thy people.

След това казаха на Ноемин: Не, с тебе ще се върнем при твоя народ.

11 A nd Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

Но Ноемин възрази: Върнете се, дъщери мои, какъв смисъл има да идвате с мен? Имам ли още синове в утробата си, за да ви станат мъже?

12 T urn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should even have a husband to-night, and should also bear sons;

Върнете се, дъщери мои, вървете, защото остарях и не мога да се омъжа. Дори и да си кажа: Имам надежда. Даже ако се омъжех тази нощ и родях синове,

13 w ould ye therefore tarry till they were grown? would ye therefore stay from having husbands? nay, my daughters, for it grieveth me much for your sakes, for the hand of Jehovah is gone forth against me.

вие бихте ли ги чакали, докато пораснат? Бихте ли се въздържали заради тях да не се омъжите? Не, дъщери мои; върнете се, понеже ми е много мъчно за вас, защото Господнята ръка се е простряла против мен.

14 A nd they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clave unto her.

А като плакаха горчиво отново, Орфа целуна свекърва си, а Рут се привърза към нея.

15 A nd she said, Behold, thy sister-in-law is gone back unto her people, and unto her god: return thou after thy sister-in-law.

Тогава Ноемин каза: Ето, етърва ти се връща при народа си и при боговете си; върни се и ти заедно с нея.

16 A nd Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, and to return from following after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God;

А Рут отговори: Не ме умолявай да те оставя и да не дойда с тебе. Където идеш ти, и аз ще ида, и където останеш, и аз ще остана. Твоят народ ще бъде мой народ и твоят Бог - мой Бог.

17 w here thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: Jehovah do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.

Където умреш ти, и аз там ще умра и там ще бъда погребана. Така да ми направи Господ, да! И повече да прибави, ако друго, освен смъртта, ме отдели от тебе.

18 A nd when she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking unto her.

Ноемин, като видя, че тя настояваше да иде с нея, престана да я разубеждава.

19 S o they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and the women said, Is this Naomi?

И така, двете вървяха, докато стигнаха във Витлеем. И когато стигнаха там, целият град се развълнува заради тях. Жените казваха: Това Ноемин ли е?

20 A nd she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

А тя им отговаряше: Не ме наричайте Ноемин, наричайте ме Мара, защото Всесилният много ме огорчи.

21 I went out full, and Jehovah hath brought me home again empty; why call ye me Naomi, seeing Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?

Задоволена с всичко излязох, а Господ ме доведе празна. Защо ме наричате Ноемин, след като Господ ме е огорчил и Всесилният ми е пратил нещастие?

22 S o Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

Така се върнаха Ноемин и снаха ѝ Рут, моавката, която дойде от Моавската земя. Те пристигнаха във Витлеем в началото на жътвата на ечемика.
