1 A nd Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and spake with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

След това Авимелех, Йеровааловият син, отиде в Сихем при братята на майка си и каза на тях и на цялото семейство от рода на майка си:

2 S peak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are threescore and ten persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

Кажете на всеослушание пред всички сихемски мъже: Кое е по-добре за вас, да владеят над вас всички Йероваалови синове, седемдесет мъже, или да владее над вас един мъж? Помнете също, че съм ваша кост и ваша плът.

3 A nd his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

И така, братята на майка му казаха всички тези думи за него на всеослушание, пред всички сихемски мъже; и те бяха склонни да следват Авимелех, защото си казаха: Той ни е брат.

4 A nd they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light fellows, who followed him.

И му дадоха седемдесет сребърници от капището на Ваалверит. С тях Авимелех нае безделници и скитници, които го последваха.

5 A nd he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: but Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

И като отиде в бащиния си дом в Офра, изкла върху един камък братята си, Йеровааловите синове, седемдесет души. Само най-младият Йероваалов син, Йотам, оцеля, защото се скри.

6 A nd all the men of Shechem assembled themselves together, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was in Shechem.

Тогава всички сихемски мъже и целият дом на Мило се събраха и поставиха Авимелех за цар, близо до дъба при стълба, който беше в Сихем.

7 A nd when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

А когато съобщиха за това на Йотам, той отиде и застана на върха на хълма Гаризин и извика силно: Послушайте ме, сихемски мъже, за да ви послуша и Бог.

8 T he trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive-tree, Reign thou over us.

Веднъж дърветата отишли да помажат цар, който да владее над тях, и предложили на маслината: Царувай над нас.

9 B ut the olive-tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honor God and man, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?

Но маслината им отговорила: Да оставя ли маслото си, чрез което отдавам почит на Бога и на човека, за да отида да се развявам над дърветата?

10 A nd the trees said to the fig-tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

Тогава дърветата казали на смокинята: Ела ти и царувай над нас.

11 B ut the fig-tree said unto them, Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?

Но смокинята им отговорила: Да оставя ли сладостта си и хубавия си плод, за да ида да се развявам над дърветата?

12 A nd the trees said unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

После дърветата се обърнали към лозата: Ела ти и царувай над нас.

13 A nd the vine said unto them, Should I leave my new wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to wave to and fro over the trees?

Но лозата им отговорила: Да оставя ли виното, което весели Бога и хората, за да ида да се развявам над дърветата?

14 T hen said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

После всички дървета казали на тръна: Ела ти и царувай над нас.

15 A nd the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

А трънът отвърнал на дърветата: Ако наистина ме помазвате за цар над вас, елате, подслонете се под сянката ми; ако ли не, нека излезе огън от тръна и изгори ливанските кедри.

16 N ow therefore, if ye have dealt truly and uprightly, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

И така, праведно и справедливо ли постъпихте, като направихте Авимелех цар? Добре ли се отнесохте към Йероваал и към дома му така, както би съответствало на доброто, което той направи?

17 ( for my father fought for you, and adventured his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

Защото баща ми воюва за вас, изложи на опасност живота си и ви избави от ръката на Мадиам.

18 a nd ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maid-servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother);

А днес вие въстанахте против бащиния ми дом, изклахте върху един камък синовете му, седемдесет мъже, и поставихте Авимелех, син на слугинята му, за цар на мъжете на Сихем само защото ви е брат.

19 i f ye then have dealt truly and uprightly with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

Затова, ако днес постъпихте праведно и справедливо с Йероваал и дома му, то радвайте се на Авимелех и нека се радва и той на вас!

20 b ut if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Но ако не сте, нека излезе огън от Авимелех и да изгори сихемските мъже и дома на Мило; и нека излезе огън от сихемските мъже и от дома на Мило и да изгори Авимелех!

21 A nd Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

Тогава Йотам избяга и отиде да живее във Вир, където и остана поради страх от брат си Авимелех.

22 A nd Abimelech was prince over Israel three years.

И Авимелех управлява Израел три години.

23 A nd God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

А Бог прати зъл дух между Авимелех и сихемските мъже и те престанаха да му бъдат верни,

24 t hat the violence done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and upon the men of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slay his brethren.

за да дойде по този начин наказание за насилието над седемдесетте Йероваалови синове върху Авимелех, техния брат, който ги изкла. Също за да бъде кръвта им върху него и върху сихемските мъже, които му помогнаха да изколи братята си.

25 A nd the men of Shechem set liers-in-wait for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

И така, сихемските мъже поставиха засади против Авимелех по възвишенията на хълмовете и обираха всички, които минаваха край тях по пътя. И това беше известено на Авимелех.

26 A nd Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their trust in him.

В това време дойде Гаал, Еведовият син, заедно с братята си и отидоха в Сихем. А сихемските мъже му се довериха.

27 A nd they went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod the grapes, and held festival, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

И като излязоха на полето, обраха лозята си, изтъпкаха гроздето и много доволни отидоха в капището на своя бог, ядоха, пиха и проклеха Авимелех.

28 A nd Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve ye the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: but why should we serve him?

Тогава Гаал, Еведовият син, каза: Кой е Авимелех и кой е Сихем, за да му слугуваме? Не е ли той син на Йероваал? И не е ли Зевул негов главен управител? Нека служим на потомците на Сихемовия баща Емор. Какъв смисъл има да слугуваме на Авимелех?

29 A nd would that this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

Ако ми се отдадеше възможност да поведа този народ, със сигурност бих изгонил Авимелех. И каза на Авимелех: Увеличи войската си и излез!

30 A nd when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

Когато Зевул, управителят на града, чу думите на Гаал, Еведовия син, гневът му пламна.

31 A nd he sent messengers unto Abimelech craftily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren are come to Shechem; and, behold, they constrain the city to take part against thee.

Той прати тайно вестоносци при Авимелех да му съобщят: Гаал, Еведовият син, и братята му са дошли в Сихем; и повдигат града против тебе.

32 N ow therefore, up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

Затова през нощта заедно с народа, който е с тебе, поставете засади по полето.

33 a nd it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and rush upon the city; and, behold, when he and the people that are with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

И на сутринта при изгрев слънце стани рано и нападни града. А когато Гаал и народът, който е с него, излязат против вас, тогава направи с тях каквото можеш.

34 A nd Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

И така, през нощта Авимелех стана заедно с народа, който беше с него, и поставиха четири дружини в засада против Сихем.

35 A nd Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from the ambushment.

Гаал, Еведовият син, излезе и застана във входа на градската порта. А Авимелех и народът, който беше с него, изскочиха от засадата.

36 A nd when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

А когато видя нападателите, Гаал каза на Зевул: Виж, хора се спускат от възвишенията на хълмовете. А Зевул му отговори: Сянката на хълмовете ти се привижда като хора.

37 A nd Gaal spake again and said, See, there come people down by the middle of the land, and one company cometh by the way of the oak of Meonenim.

Гаал обаче отново настоя: Виж, хора идват през местността и една дружина идва покрай дъба Маоненим.

38 T hen said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, that thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out now, I pray, and fight with them.

Тогава Зевул му отговори: Нали много се хвалеше: Кой е Авимелех, за да му слугуваме? Не е ли това народът, който ти презираш? Излез сега и се бий с тях.

39 A nd Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

Тогава Гаал излезе начело на сихемските мъже и влезе в бой с Авимелех.

40 A nd Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and there fell many wounded, even unto the entrance of the gate.

И Авимелех го подгони; и те побегнаха от тях и мнозина паднаха мъртви чак до самата порта на града.

41 A nd Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul drove out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

Авимелех остана в Арума; а Зевул прогони Гаал и братята му, за да не живеят в Сихем.

42 A nd it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

А на сутринта народът излезе на полето; и това беше съобщено на Авимелех.

43 A nd he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field; and he looked, and, behold, the people came forth out of the city; And he rose up against them, and smote them.

Тогава той събра хората си и ги раздели на три дружини, и постави засади на полето. И когато видя, че народът излизаше от града, изскочи против тях и ги изби.

44 A nd Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and the two companies rushed upon all that were in the field, and smote them.

След това Авимелех и дружината, която беше с него, се втурнаха и застанаха във входа на градската порта, а останалите две дружини се нахвърлиха върху всички, които бяха излезли по полето, и ги убиха.

45 A nd Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that were therein: and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

Авимелех, като се сражаваше през целия ден, превзе града и изби народа, който беше в него, разруши го и го посипа със сол.

46 A nd when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard thereof, they entered into the stronghold of the house of Elberith.

А всички мъже, които бяха в сихемската кула, като чуха за това, влязоха в укреплението на капището на бога си Верит.

47 A nd it was told Abimelech that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

И съобщиха на Авимелех, че всички мъже от сихемската кула се били събрали.

48 A nd Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it up, and laid it on his shoulder: and he said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

Тогава Авимелех се изкачи на хълма Салмон заедно с целия народ, който беше с него. Авимелех взе брадва в ръка и отсече клон от едно дърво, вдигна го и като го сложи на рамото си, каза на народа, който беше с него: Каквото видяхте, че направих аз, бързо направете и вие.

49 A nd all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the stronghold, and set the stronghold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

И така, всички хора отсякоха по един клон и като последваха Авимелех, ги натрупаха на укреплението. Тогава запалиха укреплението заедно със скритите вътре хора. По този начин всички мъже от сихемската кула бяха убити - около хиляда мъже и жени.

50 T hen went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

След това Авимелех отиде в Тевес, разположи стан против града и го превзе.

51 B ut there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut themselves in, and gat them up to the roof of the tower.

Всред града обаче имаше здрава кула, където избягаха всички мъже и жени, и всички градски жители се затвориха и се качиха на покрива на кулата.

52 A nd Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and drew near unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

Когато Авимелех стигна до кулата, атакува я и се приближи до вратата ѝ, за да я изгори с огън,

53 A nd a certain woman cast an upper millstone upon Abimelech's head, and brake his skull.

една жена хвърли един горен воденичен камък върху главата на Авимелех и му строши черепа.

54 T hen he called hastily unto the young man his armorbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and kill me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.

Той бързо извика към момъка, оръженосеца, и му каза: Изтегли меча си и ме убий, за да не кажат за мене: Жена го уби. И момъкът го прободе, и той умря.

55 A nd when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

А Израелевите мъже, като видяха, че Авимелех умря, се разотидоха, всеки у дома си.

56 T hus God requited the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren;

Така Бог отплати на Авимелех за злодеянието, което стори на баща си, като уби седемдесетте си братя.

57 a nd all the wickedness of the men of Shechem did God requite upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.

Също Бог обърна на главите на сихемските мъже всичките им злодеяния; и върху тях падна проклятието, произнесено от Йотам, Йеровааловия син.
