1 N ow the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

Господнето слово дойде към Йона, Аматиевия син, и каза:

2 A rise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

Стани, иди в големия град Ниневия и викай против него; защото нечестието му излезе пред Мене.

3 B ut Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah.

Но Йона стана да побегне в Тарсис от Господнето присъствие; и като слезе в Йопия, намери кораб, който отиваше в Тарсис, плати за превоза си и се качи на него, за да отиде с тях в Тарсис, бягайки от Господнето присъствие.

4 B ut Jehovah sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Но Господ повдигна силен вятър по морето и настана голяма буря в морето, така че имаше опасност корабът да се разбие.

5 T hen the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god; and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it unto them. But Jonah was gone down into the innermost parts of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

Тогава моряците, уплашени, извикаха всеки към своя бог и хвърлиха в морето стоките, които бяха в кораба, за да олекне от тях; а Йона беше слязъл и легнал в дъното на кораба, и спеше дълбоко.

6 S o the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

Затова капитанът на кораба се приближи до него и му каза: Какво става с тебе, спящи? Стани, призови Бога си, дано Бог си спомни за нас и не загинем.

7 A nd they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

После си казаха един на друг: Елате, да хвърлим жребий, за да разберем поради каква причина е това зло върху нас. И като хвърлиха жребий, той се падна на Йона.

8 T hen said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; what is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

Тогава му казаха: Кажи ни, молим ти се, каква е причината за това зло върху нас? Каква е работата ти и откъде идваш? От коя земя си и от кой народ си?

9 A nd he said unto them, I am a Hebrew; and I fear Jehovah, the God of heaven, who hath made the sea and the dry land.

А той им отговори: Аз съм евреин и се боя от Господа, небесния Бог, Който създаде морето и сушата.

10 T hen were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, What is this that thou hast done? For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Jehovah, because he had told them.

Тогава хората много се уплашиха и му казаха: Защо си сторил това? (Защото те знаеха, че бягаше от Господнето присъствие, понеже им беше казал.)

11 T hen said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

Тогава му казаха: Какво да ти сторим, за да утихне морето за нас? (Защото морето ставаше все по-бурно.)

12 A nd he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

И той им отвърна: Вземете ме и ме хвърлете в морето и морето ще утихне за вас; защото зная, че заради мене ви постигна тази голяма буря.

13 N evertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not: for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.

Но хората все още гребяха усилено, за да се върнат към сушата; но не можаха, защото морето ставаше все по-бурно против тях.

14 W herefore they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We beseech thee, O Jehovah, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood; for thou, O Jehovah, hast done as it pleased thee.

Затова извикаха към Господа: Молим Ти се, Господи, молим Ти се, да не загинем поради живота на този човек; и не налагай върху нас невинна кръв; защото Ти, Господи, си сторил каквото си искал.

15 S o they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea; and the sea ceased from its raging.

И така, хванаха Йона и го хвърлиха в морето. Тогава яростта на морето престана.

16 T hen the men feared Jehovah exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice unto Jehovah, and made vows.

А хората се уплашиха твърде много от Господа, принесоха Му жертва и направиха оброци.

17 A nd Jehovah prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

А Господ беше определил една голяма риба да погълне Йона; и Йона остана във вътрешността на рибата три дни и три нощи.
