1 E xcept Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.

Si el SEÑOR no edificare la casa, en vano trabajan los que la edifican; si el SEÑOR no guardare la ciudad, en vano vela la guardia.

2 I t is vain for you to rise up early, To take rest late, To eat the bread of toil; For so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.

Por demás os es el madrugar a levantaros, el veniros tarde a reposar, el comer pan de dolores; pues que a su amado dará Dios el sueño.

3 L o, children are a heritage of Jehovah; And the fruit of the womb is his reward.

He aquí, heredad del SEÑOR son los hijos; cosa de estima el fruto del vientre.

4 A s arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.

Como saetas en mano del valiente, así son los hijos mancebos.

5 H appy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Dichoso el varón que llenó su aljaba de ellos; no será avergonzado cuando hablare con los enemigos en la puerta.
