1 T hen Job answered and said,

Entonces Job respondió:

2 H ear diligently my speech; And let this be your consolations.

“Escuchen atentamente mis palabras, Y que sea éste su consuelo para mí.

3 S uffer me, and I also will speak; And after that I have spoken, mock on.

Tengan paciencia y hablaré; Y después que haya hablado, se podrán burlar.

4 A s for me, is my complaint to man? And why should I not be impatient?

En cuanto a mí, ¿me quejo yo al hombre ? ¿Y por qué no he de ser impaciente ?

5 M ark me, and be astonished, And lay your hand upon your mouth.

Mírenme, y quédense atónitos, Y pongan la mano sobre su boca.

6 E ven when I remember I am troubled, And horror taketh hold on my flesh.

Aun cuando me acuerdo, me perturbo, Y el horror se apodera de mi carne.

7 W herefore do the wicked live, Become old, yea, wax mighty in power?

¿Por qué siguen viviendo los impíos, Y al envejecer, también se hacen muy poderosos ?

8 T heir seed is established with them in their sight, And their offspring before their eyes.

En su presencia se afirman con ellos sus descendientes, Y sus vástagos delante de sus ojos;

9 T heir houses are safe from fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them.

Sus casas están libres de temor, Y no está la vara de Dios sobre ellos.

10 T heir bull gendereth, and faileth not; Their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

Su toro engendra sin fallar, Su vaca pare y no aborta.

11 T hey send forth their little ones like a flock, And their children dance.

Envían fuera a sus niños cual rebaño, Y sus hijos andan saltando.

12 T hey sing to the timbrel and harp, And rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

Cantan (Alzan la voz) con pandero y arpa, Y al son de la flauta se regocijan.

13 T hey spend their days in prosperity, And in a moment they go down to Sheol.

Pasan sus días en prosperidad, Pero de repente descienden al Seol (región de los muertos).

14 A nd they say unto God, Depart from us; For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

Y dicen a Dios: ‘¡Apártate de nosotros! No deseamos el conocimiento de Tus caminos.

15 W hat is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¿Quién es el Todopoderoso (Shaddai), para que Le sirvamos, Y qué ganaríamos con rogarle ?’

16 L o, their prosperity is not in their hand: The counsel of the wicked is far from me.

No está en mano de ellos su prosperidad; El consejo de los impíos lejos está de mí.

17 H ow oft is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity cometh upon them? That God distributeth sorrows in his anger?

¿Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los impíos, O cae sobre ellos su calamidad ? ¿Reparte Dios dolores en Su ira?

18 T hat they are as stubble before the wind, And as chaff that the storm carrieth away?

¿Son como paja delante del viento, Y como tamo que arrebata el torbellino ?

19 Y e say, God layeth up his iniquity for his children. Let him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it:

Ustedes dicen: ‘Dios guarda la iniquidad de un hombre para sus hijos.’ Que Dios le pague para que aprenda.

20 L et his own eyes see his destruction, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

Vean sus ojos su ruina, Y beba de la furia del Todopoderoso.

21 F or what careth he for his house after him, When the number of his months is cut off?

Pues ¿qué le importa la suerte de su casa después de él (después que él muera) Cuando el número de sus meses haya sido cortado?

22 S hall any teach God knowledge, Seeing he judgeth those that are high?

¿Puede enseñarse a Dios sabiduría, Siendo que El juzga a los encumbrados ?

23 O ne dieth in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and quiet:

Uno muere en pleno vigor, Estando completamente tranquilo y satisfecho;

24 H is pails are full of milk, And the marrow of his bones is moistened.

Sus costados están repletos de grasa, Húmeda está la médula de sus huesos,

25 A nd another dieth in bitterness of soul, And never tasteth of good.

Mientras otro muere con alma amargada, Y sin haber probado nada bueno.

26 T hey lie down alike in the dust, And the worm covereth them.

Juntos yacen en el polvo, Y los gusanos los cubren.

27 B ehold, I know your thoughts, And the devices wherewith ye would wrong me.

Yo conozco los pensamientos de ustedes, Y los designios con los cuales me dañarían.

28 F or ye say, Where is the house of the prince? And where is the tent wherein the wicked dwelt?

Porque dicen: ‘¿Dónde está la casa del noble, Y dónde la tienda donde moraban los impíos ?’

29 H ave ye not asked wayfaring men? And do ye not know their evidences,

¿No han preguntado a los caminantes, Y no reconocen su testimonio ?

30 T hat the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

Porque el impío es preservado para el día de la destrucción; Ellos serán conducidos en el día de la ira.

31 W ho shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he hath done?

¿Quién le declarará en su cara sus acciones, Y quién le pagará por lo que ha hecho?

32 Y et shall he be borne to the grave, And men shall keep watch over the tomb.

Mientras es llevado al sepulcro, Velarán sobre su tumba.

33 T he clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, And all men shall draw after him, As there were innumerable before him.

Los terrones del valle suavemente lo cubrirán, Y le seguirán todos los hombres, E innumerables otros irán delante de él.

34 H ow then comfort ye me in vain, Seeing in your answers there remaineth only falsehood?

¿Cómo, pues, me consuelan en vano? Sus respuestas están llenas de falsedad.”
