1 T hus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.

Так говорить Господь: Ось Я бурю збуджу на отой Вавилон та на мешканців серця повстанців на Мене.

2 A nd I will send unto Babylon strangers, that shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

І на Вавилон Я пошлю віяча, і розвіють його, і випорожнять його край, бо оточать його у день зла.

3 A gainst him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his coat of mail: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

Нехай лука свого напинає стрілець проти того, хто й собі напинає, проти того, хто своїм панцерем чваниться! І не змилуйтеся над його юнаками, закляттям учиніть усе військо його!

4 A nd they shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

І попадають вбиті в халдейському краї, і попробивані на його вулицях...

5 F or Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Jehovah of hosts; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

Бо Ізраїль та Юда не вдівець він по Бозі своєму, по Господу Саваоту, та наповнився край їхній гріхом проти Святого Ізраїлевого.

6 F lee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life; be not cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of Jehovah's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

Утікайте з-серед Вавилону, і кожен урятовуйте душу свою! За провину його не погиньте, бо це Господеві час помсти, Він дасть відповідну заплату йому!

7 B abylon hath been a golden cup in Jehovah's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Вавилон у Господній руці золотая це чаша, що всю землю напоювала: народи впивались вином тим його, тому пошаліли народи!

8 B abylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

Несподівано впав Вавилон і зруйнований він! Візьміте бальзаму для болю його, може буде загоєний він!

9 W e would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country; for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

Вавилон лікували, та він не був вилікуваний, покиньте його, і підемо кожен до краю свого, бо присуд його досягнув до небес, і дійшов аж до хмар!...

10 J ehovah hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.

Вивів Господь справедливості наші, прийдіть, і розповімо на Сіоні про чин оцей Господа, нашого Бога!

11 M ake sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Jehovah hath stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance of his temple.

Вигостріть стріли, візьміте щити! Збудив Господь духа мідійських царів, бо на Вавилон Його задум, понищити його, бо це помста Господня, помста за храма Його!

12 S et up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Jehovah hath both purposed and done that which he spake concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

Проти мурів Вавилону підійміте прапора, сторожу зміцніть, сторожів порозставляйте, і чати поставте, бо Господь і задумав, і зробив, що Він говорив був на мешканців Вавилону.

13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

О ти, що живеш над великими водами, що маєш скарбів багатенно, кінець твій прийшов, міра твоєї захланности!

14 J ehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

Господь Саваот присягав був душею Своєю: наповню людьми тебе, мов сараною, і на тебе вони крик військовий підіймуть!

15 H e hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens:

Своєю Він силою землю вчинив, Своєю премудрістю міцно поставив вселенну, і небо розтяг Своїм розумом.

16 w hen he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries.

Як голос Його забринить, у небесах шумлять води, а коли підіймає Він хмари із краю землі, коли із дощем чинить блискавки та випроваджує вітер зо сховищ Своїх,

17 E very man is become brutish and is without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

тоді кожна людина в знанні туманіє, усяк золотар посоромлений через боввана, бо відлив його це неправда, і немає в них духа!

18 T hey are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Марнота вони, вони праця на сміх, в час навіщення їх вони згинуть!

19 T he portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

Не така, як оці, частка Яковова, бо все це Він створив, і Ізраїль племено спадщини Його, Господь Саваот Йому Ймення!

20 T hou art my battle-axe and weapons of war: and with thee will I break in pieces the nations; and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

Ти Мій молот, знаряддя військове, тобою поб'ю Я народи, і тобою Я вигублю царства!

21 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider;

І тобою поб'ю Я коня й верхівця, і тобою поб'ю колесницю й її візника!

22 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and him that rideth therein; and with thee will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

І тобою поб'ю чоловіка та жінку, старого та хлопця тобою поб'ю, і тобою поб'ю юнака та дівчину!

23 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

І тобою поб'ю пастуха й його стадо, і тобою поб'ю селянина та запряг його, і тобою поб'ю Я намісників та їхніх заступників!

24 A nd I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith Jehovah.

І Я відплачу Вавилонові і всім мешканцям халдеїв усе їхнє зло, що зробили в Сіоні на ваших очах, промовляє Господь!

25 B ehold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith Jehovah, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

Оце Я на тебе, о горо ти згубна, говорить Господь, що всю землю ти губиш! І руку Свою простягну над тобою, і зо скель тебе скину, і зроблю горою горючою!

26 A nd they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith Jehovah.

І не братимуть з тебе наріжного каменя, ані каменя на підвалини, бо спустошенням вічним ти станеш, говорить Господь...

27 S et ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker-worm.

Підійміте прапор на землі, засурміть у сурму між народами, приготуйте народи на бій проти нього, покличте на нього царства Арарату, Мінні та Ашкеназу, призначте гетьмана над ними, коней спровадьте, немов ту шорстку сарану!

28 P repare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, the governors thereof, and all the deputies thereof, and all the land of their dominion.

Приготуйте на бій проти нього народи, царів Мідії, намісників її та всіх її заступників, та ввесь край панування її!

29 A nd the land trembleth and is in pain; for the purposes of Jehovah against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

І затряслася земля, і корчитись стала від болю, бо здійснилися задуми Господа на Вавилон, щоб край вавилонський вчинити жахливим спустошенням та без мешканця...

30 T he mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed; they are become as women: her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

Силачі вавилонські воювати перестали, у твердинях осілись, загинула вся їхня сила, зробились, неначе жінки, оселі його попідпалювані, його засуви зламані...

31 O ne post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to met another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

Бігун бігунові назустріч біжить, а посол назустріч послові, щоб звістити царю вавилонському, що з кінця до кінця взяте місто його,

32 a nd the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

і броди захоплені, і фортеці огнем попалили, вояки перестрашені...

33 F or thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

Бо так промовляє Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Дочка вавилонська мов тік в час топтання його: іще трохи й настане для неї час жнив!

34 N ebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out.

Пожер мене й стер мене Навуходоносор, цар вавилонський, поставив мене, як той посуд порожній, ковтнув він мене, немов змій, моїми розкошами сповнив свого живота, випхнув мене...

35 T he violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

Насилля моє й моє тіло на Вавилон, говорить мешканка Сіону, кров же моя на мешканців халдеїв, говорить Єрусалим!

36 T herefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

Тому так промовляє Господь: Оце Я змагаюсь за справу твою, і помщу твою помсту, і висушу море його, і джерело його висушу.

37 A nd Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling-place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

І стане руїною цей Вавилон, мешканням шакалів, страхіттям та посміхом, і в ньому мешканця не буде!...

38 T hey shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' whelps.

Заревуть вони разом, немов левчуки, загарчать, немов ті левенята...

39 W hen they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith Jehovah.

Як вони порозпалюються, то зроблю їм бенкета та їх упою, щоб раділи й заснули сном вічним, і вже не пробудяться, каже Господь!

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he-goats.

Поспускаю Я їх, мов овець до зарізу, немов баранів із козлами.

41 H ow is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

Як здобутий Шешах, і як схоплена слава всієї землі! Яким ось зробивсь Вавилон посеред народів!

42 T he sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

На Вавилон вийшло море, і вкрився він безліччю хвиль тих його.

43 H er cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

Міста його стануть спустошенням, краєм пустині та степу, тим краєм, що в ньому сидіти не буде ніяка людина, і не буде ходити по ньому син людський!

44 A nd I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

І Я навіщу Бела в Вавилоні, і витягну з уст його те, що він був ковтнув, і вже народи до нього не будуть плисти, немов ріки, і мур вавилонський впаде!

45 M y people, go ye out of the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Jehovah.

Мій народе, виходьте із нього й рятуйте від лютости гніву Господнього душу свою!

46 A nd let not your heart faint, neither fear ye for the tidings that shall be heard in the land; for tidings shall come one year, and after that in another year shall come tidings, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

І щоб серце ваше не слабло, а ви не злякалися вістки, почутої в краї, бо прийде цього року ця звістка, а потім того року та звістка, і буде насилля в краю, і повстане пануючий проти пануючого...

47 T herefore, behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment upon the graven images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

Тому то ось дні настають, і навіщу Я божків Вавилону, і ввесь його край посоромлений буде, і всі його вбиті попадають в ньому!

48 T hen the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, saith Jehovah.

І над Вавилоном співатимуть небо й земля, і все, що є в них, бо на нього приходять спустошники з півночі, каже Господь.

49 A s Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

Вавилон мусить упасти за вбитих Ізраїлевих, як за Вавилон впали вбиті всієї землі...

50 Y e that have escaped the sword, go ye, stand not still; remember Jehovah from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

Хто втік від меча, ідіть, не ставайте! Пам'ятайте й здалека про Господа, а Єрусалим нехай буде на вашому серці!

51 W e are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of Jehovah's house.

Застидалися ми, як почули цю ганьбу, сором покрив нам обличчя, бо чужинці прийшли у святиню Господнього дому...

52 W herefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will execute judgment upon her graven images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

Тому то ось дні настають, говорить Господь, і бовванів його навіщу, і буде стогнати поранений по всім краї його!

53 T hough Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, saith Jehovah.

Коли б Вавилон аж до неба піднісся, і коли б уміцнив свою силу він на височині, то все таки прийдуть від Мене до нього спустошники, каже Господь!

54 T he sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

Чується крик з Вавилону, і велике понищення з краю халдеїв,

55 F or Jehovah layeth Babylon waste, and destroyeth out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

бо пустошить Господь Вавилона і галас великий приглушує в ньому, і шумлять їхні хвилі, як води великі, і розлягається гуркіт їхнього голосу...

56 f or the destroyer is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for Jehovah is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

Бо прийде спустошник на нього, на Вавилон, і схоплене буде лицарство його, їхній лук поламається, бож Бог відплати Господь, Він напевно заплатить!

57 A nd I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

І впою його зверхників та мудреців його, намісників його та заступників його, і його лицарів, і сном вічним заснуть, і не збудяться, каже Цар, Господь Саваот Йому Ймення...

58 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

Так говорить Господь Саваот: Товстий мур вавилонський аж до основ буде знищений, і брами високі його огнем будуть спалені, і мучились дармо народи, і для огню мордувались племена!...

59 T he word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief chamberlain.

Слово, яке пророк Єремія наказав був Сераї, сину Нерійї, сина Махсеїного, коли він ішов з Седекією, Юдиним царем, до Вавилону, за четвертого року царювання його. А Серая був головним царським постельником.

60 A nd Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

І написав Єремія все те лихо, що прийде на Вавилон, до однієї книги, усі ті слова, що написані на Вавилон.

61 A nd Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, then see that thou read all these words,

Я сказав Єремія до Сераї: Як прийдеш ти до Вавилону, то гляди, прочитай усі ці слова.

62 a nd say, O Jehovah, thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

І скажи: Господи, Ти провіщав на це місце, щоб вигубити його так, що не буде в ньому мешканця від людини й аж до скотини, бо буде воно спустошенням вічним.

63 A nd it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates:

І станеться, як ти скінчиш читати цю книгу, прив'яжеш до неї каменя, і кинеш її до середини Ефрату,

64 a nd thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

та й скажеш: Так потоне Вавилон, і не встане через те лихо, що Я на нього наведу, і вони попомучаться!... Аж досі слова Єремієні.
