1 T hus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.

Así ha dicho Jehová: «Yo levanto un viento destructor contra Babilonia y contra sus moradores que se levantan contra mí.

2 A nd I will send unto Babylon strangers, that shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

Enviaré a Babilonia aventadores que la avienten, y vaciarán su tierra; porque se pondrán contra ella de todas partes en el día del mal.

3 A gainst him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his coat of mail: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

Ordenaré al flechero que tensa su arco y al que se enorgullece de su coraza, que no perdonen a sus jóvenes y que destruyan todo su ejército.

4 A nd they shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

Caerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos y alanceados en sus calles.

5 F or Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Jehovah of hosts; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

Porque Israel y Judá no han enviudado de su Dios, Jehová de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra fue llena de pecado contra el Santo de Israel.

6 F lee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life; be not cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of Jehovah's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

»¡Huid de en medio de Babilonia! ¡Poneos a salvo, para que no perezcáis a causa de su maldad!, porque es el tiempo de la venganza de Jehová: él va a darle su merecido.

7 B abylon hath been a golden cup in Jehovah's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Una copa de oro que embriagó a toda la tierra fue Babilonia en la mano de Jehová. De su vino bebieron los pueblos; se aturdieron las naciones.

8 B abylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

¡De repente cayó Babilonia y se hizo pedazos! ¡Gemid por ella! Tomad bálsamo para su dolor: quizá sane.»

9 W e would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country; for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

Curamos a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado. ¡Dejadla ya, y vayámonos cada uno a nuestra tierra, porque ha llegado hasta el cielo su juicio y se ha alzado hasta las nubes!

10 J ehovah hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.

Jehová sacó a luz nuestras justicias; venid y contemos en Sión la obra de Jehová, nuestro Dios.

11 M ake sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Jehovah hath stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance of his temple.

¡Limpiad las flechas! ¡Embrazad los escudos! Jehová ha despertado el espíritu de los reyes de Media, porque contra Babilonia es su pensamiento, para destruirla. Porque la venganza es de Jehová, la venganza por su templo.

12 S et up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Jehovah hath both purposed and done that which he spake concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

¡Levantad bandera sobre los muros de Babilonia, reforzad la guardia, poned centinelas, preparad emboscadas!, porque Jehová planeó y va a poner por obra lo que ha dicho contra los moradores de Babilonia.

13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

Tú, la que moras entre muchas aguas, rica en tesoros: ha llegado tu fin, la medida de tu codicia.

14 J ehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

Jehová de los ejércitos juró por sí mismo, diciendo: «Yo te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y levantarán contra ti gritería de triunfo.»

15 H e hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens:

Él es el que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que afirmó el mundo con su sabiduría y extendió los cielos con su inteligencia.

16 w hen he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries.

A su voz se producen tumultos de aguas en los cielos; él hace subir las nubes desde lo último de la tierra. Él trae la lluvia con los relámpagos y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

17 E very man is become brutish and is without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Todo hombre se ha vuelto necio, carece de conocimiento. Y todo artífice se avergüenza de su escultura, porque mentira es su ídolo, no tiene espíritu.

18 T hey are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Vanidad son y obra digna de burla, que en el tiempo del castigo perecerán.

19 T he portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

No es como ellos la porción de Jacob, porque él (Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre) es el formador de todo, e Israel es el cetro de su herencia.

20 T hou art my battle-axe and weapons of war: and with thee will I break in pieces the nations; and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

«Martillo sois para mí, y armas de guerra: por medio de ti quebrantaré naciones, y por medio de ti destruiré reinos.

21 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider;

Por medio de ti quebrantaré caballos con sus jinetes, y por medio de ti quebrantaré carros con quienes los montan.

22 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and him that rideth therein; and with thee will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

Asimismo por medio de ti quebrantaré a hombres y a mujeres; por medio de ti quebrantaré a viejos y a jóvenes; por medio de ti quebrantaré a muchachos y a muchachas.

23 a nd with thee will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

También por medio de ti quebrantaré a pastores con sus rebaños; por medio de ti quebrantaré a labradores con sus yuntas; y a jefes y a príncipes quebrantaré por medio de ti.

24 A nd I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith Jehovah.

»Yo pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los moradores de Caldea todo el mal que ellos hicieron en Sión delante de vuestros ojos, dice Jehová.

25 B ehold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith Jehovah, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

Ciertamente yo, dice Jehová, estoy contra ti, monte destructor que destruiste toda la tierra. Extenderé mi mano contra ti, te haré rodar de las peñas y te reduciré a un monte quemado.

26 A nd they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith Jehovah.

Nadie tomará de ti piedra para esquina ni piedra para cimiento, porque serás una desolación eterna, ha dicho Jehová.

27 S et ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker-worm.

»¡Alzad bandera en la tierra, tocad trompeta en las naciones! ¡Preparad pueblos contra ella, juntad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, de Mini y de Askenaz! ¡Nombrad contra ella un capitán, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas!

28 P repare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, the governors thereof, and all the deputies thereof, and all the land of their dominion.

¡Preparad contra ella naciones, los reyes de Media, sus capitanes, todos sus príncipes y todo territorio de su dominio!»

29 A nd the land trembleth and is in pain; for the purposes of Jehovah against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

Tiembla la tierra y se aflige, porque son confirmados contra Babilonia los planes de Jehová para convertir la tierra de Babilonia en un desierto donde no quede morador alguno.

30 T he mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed; they are become as women: her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

Los valientes de Babilonia dejaron de pelear, se encerraron en sus fortalezas; les faltaron las fuerzas, se volvieron como mujeres; incendiadas están sus casas, rotos sus cerrojos.

31 O ne post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to met another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

Correo se encuentra con correo, mensajero se encuentra con mensajero para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad es tomada por todas partes.

32 a nd the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

Los vados fueron tomados, los baluartes incendiados y se aterraron los hombres de guerra.

33 F or thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: «La hija de Babilonia es como una era en tiempo de trilla; y de aquí a poco le llegará el tiempo de la siega.»

34 N ebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out.

«Me devoró, me desmenuzó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia. Me dejó como un vaso vacío; me tragó como un dragón, llenó su vientre con lo mejor de mí, y me expulsó.

35 T he violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

¡Caiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha contra mí y contra mi carne!», dice la moradora de Sión. «Y caiga mi sangre sobre los moradores de Caldea», dice Jerusalén.

36 T herefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: «Yo juzgo tu causa y llevaré a cabo tu venganza. Secaré su mar y haré que sus fuentes queden secas.

37 A nd Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling-place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

Y será Babilonia un montón de ruinas, guarida de chacales, objeto de espanto y burla, sin morador alguno.

38 T hey shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' whelps.

Todos a una rugirán como leones; como cachorros de leones gruñirán.

39 W hen they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith Jehovah.

En medio de su calor les prepararé banquetes, y haré que se embriaguen, para que se alegren y duerman un sueño eterno del que no despierten, dice Jehová.

40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he-goats.

Los haré traer como corderos al matadero, como carneros y machos cabríos.»

41 H ow is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

¡Cómo fue apresada Babilonia! ¡Cómo fue conquistada la que toda la tierra había alabado! ¡Cómo vino a ser Babilonia un objeto de espanto entre las naciones!

42 T he sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

Subió el mar sobre Babilonia; por la multitud de sus olas quedó cubierta.

43 H er cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

Sus ciudades fueron asoladas; la tierra, un sequedal estéril, será tierra en la que nadie more ni pase por ella ningún ser humano.

44 A nd I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

«Juzgaré a Bel en Babilonia y sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado. Nunca más vendrán naciones a él, y el muro de Babilonia caerá.

45 M y people, go ye out of the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Jehovah.

¡Salid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salvad vuestra vida del ardor de la ira de Jehová!

46 A nd let not your heart faint, neither fear ye for the tidings that shall be heard in the land; for tidings shall come one year, and after that in another year shall come tidings, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

No desmaye vuestro corazón; no temáis a causa del rumor que se oirá en el país. Un año vendrá el rumor, y nuevo rumor después de otro año. Habrá violencia en el país y contienda de un tirano contra otro.

47 T herefore, behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment upon the graven images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

Por tanto, he aquí vienen días en que yo destruiré los ídolos de Babilonia. Toda su tierra será avergonzada; todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

48 T hen the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, saith Jehovah.

Los cielos y la tierra y todo lo que hay en ellos cantarán de gozo contra Babilonia, porque del norte vendrán contra ella destructores, dice Jehová.

49 A s Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

Por los muertos de Israel caerá Babilonia, como por Babilonia cayeron los muertos de toda la tierra.»

50 Y e that have escaped the sword, go ye, stand not still; remember Jehovah from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

¡Los que escapasteis de la espada, id, no os detengáis! ¡Acordaos de Jehová durante mucho tiempo! ¡Y acordaos de Jerusalén!

51 W e are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of Jehovah's house.

«Estamos avergonzados, porque oímos la afrenta; la confusión cubrió nuestros rostros, porque vinieron extranjeros contra los santuarios de la casa de Jehová.»

52 W herefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will execute judgment upon her graven images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

Por tanto, Jehová dice: «Vienen días en que yo destruiré sus ídolos, y en toda su tierra gemirán los heridos.

53 T hough Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, saith Jehovah.

Aunque suba Babilonia hasta el cielo y se fortifique en las alturas, de mí vendrán contra ella destructores, dice Jehová.»

54 T he sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

¡Óyese el clamor de Babilonia y el gran quebrantamiento de la tierra de los caldeos!,

55 F or Jehovah layeth Babylon waste, and destroyeth out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

porque Jehová destruye a Babilonia y quita de ella el gran bullicio. Braman sus olas, y como el rugir de muchas aguas resuena la voz de ellos,

56 f or the destroyer is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for Jehovah is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

pues viene el destructor contra ella, contra Babilonia, y sus valientes serán apresados, y el arco de ellos será quebrado. Porque Jehová, Dios de retribuciones, da la justa paga.

57 A nd I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

Yo embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus jefes, a sus nobles y a sus guerreros. Dormirán el sueño eterno y no despertarán, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos.

58 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: «El muro ancho de Babilonia será derribado por completo y sus altas puertas serán incendiadas. En vano trabajaron los pueblos, y las naciones se cansaron sólo para el fuego.»

59 T he word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief chamberlain.

Palabra que envió el profeta Jeremías a Seraías hijo de Nerías hijo de Maasías, cuando iba con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, en el cuarto año de su reinado. Seraías dirigía la marcha.

60 A nd Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

Escribió, pues, Jeremías en un libro todo el mal que había de venir sobre Babilonia, todas las palabras que están escritas contra Babilonia.

61 A nd Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, then see that thou read all these words,

Y dijo Jeremías a Seraías: «Cuando llegues a Babilonia, procura con diligencia leer todas estas cosas.

62 a nd say, O Jehovah, thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

Dirás: “Jehová, tú has dicho de este lugar que lo vas a destruir hasta no quedar en él nadie que lo habite, ni hombre ni animal, y que para siempre ha de ser asolado.”

63 A nd it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates:

Y cuando acabes de leer este libro, le atarás una piedra y lo echarás en medio del Éufrates,

64 a nd thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

y dirás: “Así se hundirá Babilonia, y no se levantará del mal que yo traigo sobre ella. ¡Caerán rendidos!”» Hasta aquí son las palabras de Jeremías.
