1 T hus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

Esto me ha mostrado Jehová, el Señor: Él criaba langostas cuando comenzaba a crecer el heno tardío, el heno tardío que viene después de las siegas del rey.

2 A nd it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

Y aconteció que cuando acabaron de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: «Señor, Jehová, perdona ahora, pero ¿quién levantará a Jacob, que es tan pequeño?»

3 J ehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.

Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: «No será», dijo Jehová.

4 T hus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, the Lord Jehovah called to content by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.

Jehová, el Señor, me mostró esto: Jehová, el Señor, llamaba al fuego para juzgar; y el fuego consumió el gran abismo y también una parte de la tierra.

5 T hen said I, O Lord Jehovah, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

Y dije: «Señor, Jehová, cesa ahora; pues ¿quién levantará a Jacob, que es tan pequeño?»

6 J ehovah repented concerning this: this also shall not be, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: «No será esto tampoco», dijo Jehová, el Señor.

7 T hus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.

Me mostró también esto: El Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho a plomo, y en su mano tenía una plomada de albañil.

8 A nd Jehovah said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more;

Jehová entonces me preguntó: —¿Qué ves, Amós? Yo respondí: —Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: —Yo pongo plomada de albañil en medio de mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré más.

9 a nd the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Los lugares altos de Isaac serán destruidos, los santuarios de Israel serán asolados y me levantaré con espada sobre la casa de Jeroboam. Amós y Amasías

10 T hen Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

Entonces el sacerdote Amasías de Bet-el envió a decir a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: «Amós se ha levantado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel; la tierra no puede sufrir todas sus palabras.

11 F or thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

Porque así ha dicho Amós: “Jeroboam morirá a espada, e Israel será llevado de su tierra en cautiverio.”»

12 A lso Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thou away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

Y Amasías dijo a Amós: —Vidente, vete, huye a tierra de Judá, come allá tu pan y profetiza allá;

13 b ut prophesy not again any more at Beth-el; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house.

pero no profetices más en Bet-el, porque es santuario del rey, y capital del reino.

14 T hen answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore-trees:

Entonces respondió Amós y dijo a Amasías: —No soy profeta ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero y recojo higos silvestres.

15 a nd Jehovah took me from following the flock, and Jehovah said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Y Jehová me tomó de detrás del ganado, y me dijo: “Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel.”

16 N ow therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac;

»Ahora, pues, oye palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: “No profetices contra Israel ni hables contra la casa de Isaac.”

17 t herefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: “Tu mujer será ramera en medio de la ciudad, tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a espada y tu tierra será repartida por suertes; tú morirás en tierra inmunda e Israel será llevado cautivo lejos de su tierra.”
