1 I n the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

A los dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam comenzó a reinar Abías sobre Judá.

2 T hree years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

Reinó tres años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Micaías, hija de Uriel, el de Gabaa. Hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.

3 A nd Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

Entonces Abías empezó la batalla con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil hombres de guerra, valerosos y escogidos; y Jeroboam tomó posiciones de batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.

4 A nd Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel:

Se levantó Abías sobre el monte Zemaraim, que está en los montes de Efraín, y dijo: «Oídme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.

5 O ught ye not to know that Jehovah, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

¿No sabéis vosotros que Jehová, Dios de Israel, dio el reino a David sobre Israel para siempre, a él y a sus hijos, bajo pacto de sal?

6 Y et Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y se rebeló contra su señor.

7 A nd there were gathered unto him worthless men, base fellows, that strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted, and could not withstand them.

Se juntaron con él hombres ociosos y perversos y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era joven y pusilánime, y no se defendió de ellos.

8 A nd now ye think to withstand the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

Y ahora vosotros tratáis de resistir al reino de Jehová, que está en manos de los hijos de David, porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os puso por dioses.

9 H ave ye not driven out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests after the manner of the peoples of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

¿No habéis arrojado vosotros a los sacerdotes de Jehová, a los hijos de Aarón y a los levitas, y os habéis designado sacerdotes a la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga a consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?

10 B ut as for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priests ministering unto Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work:

Pero en cuanto a nosotros, Jehová es nuestro Dios y no lo hemos dejado; los sacerdotes que ministran delante de Jehová son los hijos de Aarón, y los que están en la obra son levitas,

11 a nd they burn unto Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense: the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but ye have forsaken him.

los cuales queman para Jehová los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y el incienso aromático; ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelabro de oro con sus lámparas para que ardan cada tarde; porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza de Jehová, nuestro Dios, pero vosotros lo habéis dejado.

12 A nd, behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against Jehovah, the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

Dios está con nosotros por jefe, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas del júbilo para que suenen contra vosotros. Hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra Jehová, el Dios de vuestros padres, porque no prosperaréis.»

13 B ut Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

Pero Jeroboam hizo tender una emboscada para atacarlos por la espalda; de modo que atacaron a Judá tanto de frente como por detrás.

14 A nd when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried unto Jehovah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

Cuando los de Judá miraron hacia atrás, se dieron cuenta de que los atacaban por el frente y por la espalda; por lo que clamaron a Jehová, mientras los sacerdotes tocaban las trompetas.

15 T hen the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

Entonces los de Judá gritaron con fuerza; y al alzar ellos el grito de guerra, Dios desbarató a Jeroboam y a todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá.

16 A nd the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

Huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá y Dios los entregó en sus manos.

17 A nd Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

Abías y su gente hicieron una gran matanza; cayeron heridos quinientos mil hombres escogidos de Israel.

18 T hus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo, mientras los hijos de Judá prevalecían, porque se apoyaban en Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

19 A nd Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephron with the towns thereof.

Persiguió Abías a Jeroboam, y le arrebató algunas ciudades: a Bet-el con sus aldeas, a Jesana con sus aldeas, y a Efraín con sus aldeas.

20 N either did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

Así, nunca más tuvo poder Jeroboam en los días de Abías, pues Jehová lo hirió y murió.

21 B ut Abijah waxed mighty, and took unto himself fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.

Pero Abías se hizo más poderoso. Tomó catorce mujeres y engendró veintidós hijos y dieciséis hijas.

22 A nd the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.

Los demás hechos de Abías, sus caminos y sus dichos, están escritos en la historia del profeta Iddo.
